  1. I think I've figured out my problem. I would still appreciate all advice on my network's optimization. Thanks again.
  2. Hey all, I have a wrt300n router that I have plugged into my modem as my main router. I would like to hook up a wrt54g router to my network as well for my wireless devices. Should I use gateway or router mode on the wrt300n? Also, should I have the wrt54g set up in router or gateway mode? If someone could answer these questions for me it would be greatly appreciated. Also, any other setting reccommendations would be appreciated as well. Thanks all!
  3. Will upload power boost from Comcast be stable enough to host games on PC or xbox live? The reason I ask is because I have been testing for 3 days now and I constantly clock in between 1.4-1.5 megs up. And before I had upload power boost European people rarely came in my room...now since this upload boost has been implemented people from all over the world have been coming in my rooms more through opti match. Now the optimatch feature wouldn't reccomend them come into my room if it would be a bad connection, correct? Please let me know what you guys think. Basically when I host in games like call of duty 3 on xbox 360 which supports 24 players...even though I'm paying for a 6/(3??k). Should I not host? Or since nobodys getting lag and my speed tests are a stable 1.3-1.5 megs up am I okay? Thanks again guys.
  4. Comcast tech came to my house to fix the signal in my house because I didn't have internet. He did just that by messing with some wires in my main box and by removing an amplifier from my garage. After doing that my download/upload speeds have been great. I think he may have uncapped my modem because we did some speed tests together after he fixed it and here are some results. Please tell me your thoughts on what he might've done to my box. :::.. 5. What would I do without testmy.net and it's wonderful members? Thank you all so very much for all the info. I think I will go with nero ultra.
  6. Figured out how to do it. Thanks guys.
  7. Yeah, it was my wife who wanted the notebook. But boy am I glad she got it. By the way...I have media center on the notebook but I can't figure out how to get it hooked up to a turner after I installed it. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  8. lol. It was the last thing I thought of...I finally figured out that the ram cards needed to snap in further. It scared the hell outta me until I fixed it. But now my PC is has 2.50 GB of ram and is running like a beast. While I was out picking up ram I picked up a new notebook. It's an hp dv9230us notebook PC. Here are the specs on my notebook. How did I do picking out the notebook? Oh,by the way...I bought two 1 GB sticks of DDR400 PC3200 sticks of memory and the brand was centon from comp USA. I know I could've gotten it cheaper but I got a 30 dollar mail-in-rebate for each card purchased. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/HP-Pavilion-17-Widescreen-Notebook-PC-DV9230US/sem/rpsm/oid/169877/catOid/-12963/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
  9. I added memory to my computer today and now the computer starts but there is no picture on the monitor. I am not sure that my connections/cables are connected correctly. I have an ATA serial cable, two black cables (P9 and P10) and have tried all of the combinations I can think of, but nothing is working
  10. Hey guys, I was wondering what the overall best video editing/converting software is out there? I have a Sony handycam but the software for it sucks and I can't figure out how to use it. I don't care if I have to pay a little bit of money for this software because if it's that good it's worth it. Also, what software do you use to backup your systems? How much does the system backup software cost? Thanks for the info.
  11. Great info guys. You guys are awesome!
  12. Hey, thanks again for all the info guys. I don't believe the hp media 1080n supports dual channel memory. I found that out at crucial.com. Will I still be cool with a single 1GB stick? Also, I have a computer that has 54 MB and the max I can put in it are 2x256 MB sticks. This old PC I have crawls. Will it be worth upgrading it to 512MB? I'm assuming that with the Pentium 3 processor in it...that the extra ram will make it run like new. Let me know if you guys think that upgrading my old hp pavilion XL759 is worth it. Thanks
  13. Hey guys, I am a complete and utter noob at this stuff so I figured I would come here for help. The thing is I have the hp media center 1080n . I was gonna take a trip to bestbuy tonight to purchase more ram. But I have a few questions first.(a) I have 512 MB of ram right now...will adding more make that much of a difference?( How much ram will I need if my computer is running a little sluggish?(note: it's not sluggish from spyware/malware/viruses/trojans because I take care of my system's security.) © And the most important part...what ram will I need to buy for my model and how much of it do I need if I'm already at 512 MB? As always I appreciate anyone/everyone's help. Thanks, Nick
  14. What can I say guys? You all have been wonderful. But when it comes down to it...I never have the right words come out to stand up for myself. I called again and no use with westinghouse. It literally is a tiny dot on the upper right hand corner of the screen. I am still under factory warranty, but if I take it to best buy and say to hell with it...what do you think my chances are that they will give me a replacement? What I gather from most of you that they are screwing me hard considering what I paid. I think the factory warranty is very vague since I can't tell how many pixels are burnt out. The guy at westinghouse told me that six pixels is about the size of an eraser on a pencil. He could be lying to shut me up and save westinghouse $ on a replacement TV or repairs. Then if I tell bestbuy...they offered geeksquad to come to my house and take a look at it...but if geeksquad thinks that the problem isn't important enough then they charge 100-200 dollars. Therefore, I felt bullied into shutting up. Some advice as to wether I should take it to bestbuy or give up would be awesome. If it was only a couple hundred dollars I was spending I would've dropped it already. But because of the price/quality monitor I paid for...it now bugs the shit outta me when I turn that TV on and see the pink dot! I know it seems as though I rambled and I'm sorry for that. Judging by your posts you guys care more than the customer service at any of these places. I thanyou for that. Also, if you think I should take the TV in...I'm a newb at this stuff, so advice on what to box/wrap the LCD in for the trip to the store would be nice.
  15. How would you even know what six pixels or more looks like. I think the people at westinghouseare full of it. This monitor I have has well over 2 million pixels! Since I don't know how many...and since I can't count how many...since I don't have a paper from westinghouse that discusses my factory warranty with me they are gonna keep shafting me. I want proof of this six pixel rule from them. Those bastages!!!!!!
  16. The thing is I bought it seven months ago from bestbuy. It hasn't had any issues up until the day before yesterday. I called bestbuy first, they told me to call westinghouse since I'm still under factory warranty for a year...so called westinghouse and the guy said tough basically. Then I called bestbuy back and the woman said that she would send out a geeksquad agent out to my house but if the problem with the pixel disappeared or if the geeksquad guy thinks it doesn't qualify as a problem...then they will charge me between 100-200 dollars that I can't afford. So, that's where I'm at with them.
  17. I asked if they would repair or replace it and he said that the only way they will do that is if the dot gets bigger. Is this a bullying tactic on their part? Or is this response from them justified? Personally, I don't think I complained enough. Tell me what you think.
  18. I am not sure what dead pixels look like. All I know is that on my new LCD monitor there is a tiny pink dot in the upper right hand corner. It eats at me now that I noticed it I don't think I'm being too anal considering that I payed 2,000 for the monitor plus warranty that lasts until 2010. I called westinghouse for troubleshooting and the guy asked me how many pixels I thought were damaged. WTF??? It's a 1080P monitor!!! Over two million pixels on it...how in the hell am I gonna know if the dot is one pixel or a thousand? I told my wife I should pulled out my pixel conversion calculator lol. Anyway, he didn't help because we were supposed to go through tests to see if it was even pixel damage but he didn't go through troubleshooting tests. So, if I see a tiny pink dot...does that count as pixel damage? If not...what do you guys think are good steps to try and get rid of the dot. Sorry for the lengthy post and as always I appreciate everyones input.
  19. Okay, I recently got a Psyclone HDTV and Monitor VGA Cable for Xbox 360. I was going to originally get the microsoft VGA cable. Well, it's been a few weeks and now I'm looking at the description of my psyclone cable at bestbuy.com and it doesn't support 1080i. When I looked at Microsoft's VGA it certainly does support up to 1080i. With some games the psyclone cable looks awesome and with others the colors seem a bit washed out and the picture not as crisp. The psyclone does support 720p. Should I stick with it or buy the 360 VGA cable? As always I appreciate everyones advice.
  20. I think I will too. I liked being able to view my xbox live friends list on the old msn messenger but it wont let me now for some reason.
  21. Well, on that note...it's late and I'm tired. Thanks for your feedback on it. I really do appreciate it. Again, GO STEELERS!!!
  22. Yeah, they do suck lol. I noticed that in the powerboost article at comcast.com they chose their words wisely when describing powerboost. Would it kill them to just say this will be a legit no bs speed upgrade??? Why of course it would...then nerds like you and I would call and complain until the cows came home that we aren't getting our advertised speed!
  23. Agentgod, are you certain that it's in your area yet? My wife does work with huge voice files that are transferred through an ftp server. What normally would take her about 10 minutes took her about 30 seconds to download an hour and a half long voice digital voice file. She was downloading it from Idaho. This is the speed I'm getting after the comcast technician left my area today. So, it works for me. :::..
