TriRan got a reaction from chiendelarue in Why Do My Results Differ From Speedtest.net / Ookla Speed Tests?
i usually see very different results than here, when my internet is having issues speedtest.net doesn't usually detect them at all it will show my full 50/5 where as here i can see my service is really suffering and only receiving half that
i actually get better results from here then i see on speedtest.net maybe that's just me...

TriRan got a reaction from Pgoodwin1 in Why Do My Results Differ From Speedtest.net / Ookla Speed Tests?
speedtest doesn't usually pull accurate numbers for me.. take now for instance i'm having pretty big local issues here modem keeps dropping out, signals are bad.
so when i test at speedtest its as though nothing at all is wrong.. look
if i go by that then i'd never know anything is wrong with my connection. but the ISPs can't fool me... i'm going to keep having them come out and look into my issue forcing them to spend thousands until they fix it and give me what i'm paying $89.99 a month for, a good company wants a happy customer and i will be one when they fix my problems which they are trying to do
if i test to testmy.net or any other speedtest site that does not use flash i see results like
as you can see speedtest isn't even close. even if i test to a server over 1400 miles away on speedtest its still showing incorrect results

TriRan got a reaction from CA3LE in Remote monitoring of internet performance
Honestly I would setup a small pc on the network with VNC or remote desktop enabled and just log in and run tests when you receive complaints

Awesome!

I would check your adapter settings make sure it's set to full duplex not half duplex also check your ethernet cable by swapping out for a spare if you have one

TriRan got a reaction from mudmanc4 in Amazon Prime stalling
Tbh the problem is most likely out of your control the only things you could check would be make sure the modem and router aren't having any issues check your modem logs see if there are many errors swap out the ethernet cable between modem and router and if you have a spare router try it out see if you still have the issue. It sounds like an outside issue though something probably along the connection route that is timing out

If you close the tab or browser window the test should stop our test can't run in the background without the Web page being loaded

TriRan got a reaction from CA3LE in Best settings Netgear 6200 Extender
I would honestly try them all out no one can tell you what will be best because WiFi can be tricky. Placement of the devices can also have an effect on which frequencies are best for your house

TriRan got a reaction from CA3LE in my 2 computers at home - 2 different speeds
Depending on the wireless capabilities of that router it could be the limiting factor usually when a WiFi router is connected to devices the link speed for all devices will operate at the slowest device speed so say you have a device connected on wireless G and one on wireless N they are all going to operate at the slowest negotiated speed which would be wireless G. wireless G is max theoretical speed is 54Mbps even if your connected at 54Mbps you won't get that due to packet loss and interference you'll probably only achieve about 80% 43.2Mbps in addition the test here will also be stress testing your HDD if you have a slower HDD such as a laptop HDD you may have issues getting a higher speed as well try using the multi threaded tests and make sure no other devices are connected to the WiFi when testing such as cell phones etc they have a really hard time maintaining high link speeds which will affect the link speed for your laptop especially if they are connected on wireless G

TriRan reacted to coknuck in Location changing
No! Dallas is a default server. Now you can change the servers to check your speed almost anywhere in the world. Go to top right corner of Download page a select "Test Server" then pick the one you want. Hope this helps. Enjoy and check out the rest of the site. If you have questions don't be afraid to ask.

TriRan got a reaction from mudmanc4 in Upload Speed Issue - Comcast
I would setup an auto speed test to run over say a 24 hour period so you can first start to pinpoint the exact times after that schedule a tech to come out once you have a good idea of when it's going to happen and once it does he'll scratch his head and escalate the issue hopefully if not keep calling keep complaining unfortunately making as much noise as you can to draw attention to the issue is the only way to fix things and remember be nice to the technicians and customer support agents they do all they can but typically it'll take someone higher up like engineering to fix the actual issue depending on what it is

TriRan got a reaction from CA3LE in My net is all over the place...
He's probably referring to speed test when you run a speed test on speed test.net it automatically checks ping one thing to keep in mind tho speed test.net typically used a server in your back yard aka the closest major city to you so of course you may not feel any route congestion issues that may be going on also I believe league has their servers for the U.S. On the west coast in la or San jose

TriRan got a reaction from William Masse Jr in Hi I am a ps4 gamer does anyone know
18Mbit should be plenty it depends on your upload as much as download for gaming though avoid wifi and play on servers close to your physical location you should be able to tell by ping lower is better

TriRan got a reaction from Pgoodwin1 in Other wired computer slow speed
there are many factors that could be causing this it may not be hardware related, first things first make sure the drivers software isn't manually set to half duplex mode or 10Mbps which can be found in your network adapter settings its under control panel > network and sharing center > change adapter settings
if that is already set to auto or 100Mbps then you should be fine next step would be to download TCP Optimizer and make sure the MTU is set for 1500 aswell as the connection set for the correct amount of download speed your expecting to get
if none of that works then you may be looking at either a issue with the ethernet cable or the router or maybe just that one router port

TriRan got a reaction from CA3LE in Correct purchased speeds, slow response time if any usage
That's fairly common to experience on any connection if your looking to avoid that you'll have to use packet prioritization through QoS packet scheduling that way your game and voice traffic will have higher priority than the port 80 and video streaming traffic

TriRan got a reaction from CA3LE in 'Safe' browsers for windows
I use Google Chrome with ad block plus I really don't like blocking unintrusive ads because I know it's a source of revenue for a lot of sites but with all the malware out there now days it's just safer
