quoute from http://www.dslnuts.com/2kxp.shtml "4. InitialLargeBufferCount - The count of large buffers allocated by AFD at system startup. Allocate more buffers to improve performance at the cost of physical memory. Value Type: REG_DWORD Default: 0/2/10 5. InitialMediumBufferCount - Initial count of medium buffers. Value Type: REG_DWORD Default: 4/8/24 6. InitialSmallBufferCount - Initial count of small buffers. Value Type: REG_DWORD Default: 8/16/32 7. LargeBufferSize - The size, in bytes, of large buffers used by AFD. Smaller values use less memory and larger values can improve performance. Value Type: REG_DWORD Default: PAGE_SIZE (4096 bytes on i386, 8192 bytes on Alpha) 8. MaxFastTransmit - This parameter controls the maximum amount of data that is transferred in a TransmitFile request on the fast path. Fast I/O is essentially copying data and bypassing the I/O subsystem, instead of mapping memory and going through the I/O subsystem. This is advantageous for small amounts of data. Value Type: REG_DWORD Valid Range: 0

hey talon223 i have to agree, this site rocks try the 1496 KB uploadtest and see if speed increase VanBuren

it shouldnt be that big diff, try updating the NIC drivers, also scan for spyware/virus 9. Download and update then do a scan with SpyBot http://beam.to/spybotsd and Ad Aware http://www.lavasoft.com/support/download to remove any spyware 10. ZoneAlarm firewall has known problems with dropping speed, i suggest to uninstall it and compare speed 11. Install Outpost Firewall http://www.agnitum.com or Sygate Firewall http://www.sygate.com/ 12. Scan for viruses with your antivirus app, if you do not have one get one, AVG is great http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php 13. Make sure you have ALL of the latest Windows Updates 14. Download and run CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/ VanBuren

that test is not accurate when it comes to duplex mode, use the settings that works best for you, 100 Mbps full duplex if you have a router and 10 Mbps half duplex without router works best for most cable connections. VanBuren
-
if you have a router, bypass it and connect your PC direct to modem and test speed again also make a new tweaktest, now when you reloaded the cablenut file http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks VanBuren
-
Just tell them you dont get the speed your paying for VanBuren

firewall, yea that can be a good idea I dont know much about routers, but some using DMZ and a software firewall tweaks? well that depends if you can get 90% of your ISP advertised speed without tweaks, dont bother VanBuren
