  1. I was kind of mistaken. The more expensive layer 3 routers have only 1 port in and 1 or 2 ports out, depending on model. These are mostly for backbone, high traffic usage and youm can control bandwitdh for a lan segment. Switches are actually what you can easily control bandwidth with on a lan. Most cheaper routers you can buy have built in switches (the 4 ports your talking about) (LynkSys, etc.). The link below is an example of a router with built in switch including bandwidth control. You can buy a separate switch with the control you want. (Might save you a bit rather than replacing your router as well). http://www.eusso.com/Models/Router/UIS1400-BC/uis1400-bc.htm
  2. OK Look on the back of the computer where the monitor plugs in. Is there another plug on the back of the computer just like the one the monitor is plugged into right now?
  3. Sounds like you want to control the max bandwidth available for each port as well? That would be an expensive router.....
  4. Dumpster diving for a used pregnancy test.... What'll it be next??
  5. Thought you all might be interested in this software. It gives you mucho information about your computer hardware. www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html.
  6. I got Hoffa's cufflinks, sell'em to ya real cheap. Give you an offer you can't refuse..................
  7. Hit the PrintScrn key, Now, stat ms paint (under Start Menu>Programs>Accessories). When the progrm starts, click in the white window that opens the hold the ctrl key down and hit the V key. It will ask you if you want to enlarge the image (whatever). Click yess. Then save the file to your desktop. Now, start a post and attach the the file (attach is under additional options at the bottom of the post reply screen).
  8. Yeah.... Missed that post while researching the issue. Download the new drivers and follow the instructions given on the website for installation.
  9. Maybe your operating system disk (windows2000)? Do you have that? Here is a link to Intels site for downloading a new driver for the display adapter. Be sure to select the Windows2000 version. From what I see, if the driver is installed correctly, you should be able to get higher resolution. Does your monitor support the higher resolutions your looking for? You might find the max res. allowed on the manufacturer tag on the back of it. http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/intel845g/sb/cs-009072.htm?iid=graphics+845main&
  10. When you looked at your display adapters, how many were listed? I would delete them all, reboot, and let windows autodetect and reinstall the driver to see if this might correct the problem. If not, you're already running at 640X480 anyway.....
  11. The link I grabbed is in the Vans Guide in the Guides section of the site.. The link that Cholla gave works, but has the same link within it (that doesn't work) as well. The link should be changed or removed from Vans guide. https://testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=605
  12. Its kinda funny. The topic you sent me to refers me to that same link I posted as well. I was just concerned that since it is in a guide, it should be looked at for correctness and fixed or removed if no longer valid.
  13. It won't. Each time a restore point is created, the folder will increase in size. With XP, you can set the limit for the amount of harddrive space the folder will take up. On the screen where you disabled the System Restore, there is a settings button. This brings up a screen where you can downsize the amount of space Restore will take up on your drive. It defaults to 12% of your drive but you can set it to whatever you wish.
  14. I tried the link to one of the topics listed: https://testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=605 and it gave me a message of topic not found or you do not have access. Has the topic been removed?
  15. Here is a link (not sure if it will work) that points to the dimension 4500 downloads on Dells website. If its showing something like Supervga or vga then you probably need to install the driver for you video adapter. Just make sure "safe mode" is not showing in all four corner of your desktop. Safe mode is a diagnostic mode that only loads the generic VGA driver for your adapter. Let us know. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/devices.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_4500&category=0&os=WNT5&osl=EN
  16. Get into your display settings (where your 800X600 is located) Click on the Advanced button. It should list your display adapter in there.
  17. What is it reporting as the display adapter?
  18. Yeah... I can understand that (kind of anyway.... not being a mother and all) Thanks for the worry, though. Haven't had anyone (except family of course) do that for quite a long time.
  19. So if someone gets hurt, its a pipe bomb but if they don't, it isn't? I would define a pipe bomb as an item(no description) built specifically and with the intention to inflict harm. Potato cannon just doesn't fit that definition. Should it be constructed with adult supervision, yes. My Dad helped out with ours. That goes back to the learning not banning statement in my prior post. Edit: spelling issue
  20. I think you might be overreacting........... I think if you read the whole part of this thread on the subject, it is being talked about in an appropriate way. No one is advocating it for children, no one even mentioned children until now. I think parents need to be a bit more in the forefront of their childrens lives. I, as was Cholla, shooting firearms at a young age. To teach and to learn about something, instead of banning it, is a better alternative.
  21. Didn't know about that one. Much better than reformatting, eh?
