You can use internet connection sharing (ICS), depending on operating system (Windows98, 2000, or xp I believe) or you could drop between 30 -100 bucks and buy a broadband router. Downfall with ICS is the other machine has to be up and running and if it goes down, your connection goes with it.

Yeah, All but that one purchase went smoothly. If you pay by credit card, I think most cards nowadays come with buyer protection. Worst case, you might get the cash back from them. Chollas right about the feedback. Only the successful bidder can leave feedback on the seller. You can ask questions of the seller prior to close of bidding, however.....

Yeah....... Worst ever is being a bit lenient I think... I'd rather run Windows for WorkGroups....... :haha:

Have used McAfee, Avg and Norton AV. Best I've found yet is avg........

Most of my experience with Nortons Antivirus has been difficult. Nortons actually has special utilities on its site to get rid of their software if something goes wrong. I just had a 3 day marathon session with an WinME machine that crashed and burned because of Norton AntiVirus. Never install Audible on a WinME, Norton protected machine...

I picked up a copy of nt terminal server from ebay. I think if you use paypal, you get your money back if you don't get your product. It's a process, which I went thru quite a while ago, but got the cash back. Edit: The cash back situation was for a prior attempt at getting nt terminal server ed.

What are the other codes? Also, have you added any new software, service packs, patches or updated/changed the nic drivers just prior to when this started occurring?

Not sure if it will help, but there is a log file that shows the program working and ip address of the remote system you download the WU from. Right click on the tray icon, go to about, then log ( win98 version). -
unable to repair network connection since instaling router

If what Fallowearth recommended doesn't do it, go into your network adapter configuration and change the speed/media from auto to 100mb and full duplex. Some nics don't like to play nice............ -
Couldn't hurt...... Probably just finish the job..... :haha:

My stupid... Open my eyes, I just may see...... Thanks PHP Edit: I'm starting to sound like Dr. Suess.......... Not a good sign........
-
You could try a system restore.... :haha: Is there a reset button anywhere on it? A shot in the dark...... It really sounds like something internal is fried, as PHP said, not necessarily from heat.

Helloimtims got it right. The diversity of the members here is what makes it a site someone would want to be involved with. Discussions, both tech and non-tech, are what create the community here, in my opinion. As with any community, there will be times that people will disagree and misunderstandings are bound to happen. That's part of human nature. It's how we respond to disagreements that show our mettle. Like helloimtim said, 'it's just the net' BTW, Could someone explain why post counts seem to be such a hot topic? This being the first forum I've become involved with, I guess I just don't understand it..

Here is a link for the new windows installer. Make sure you are running service pack 3 or above (required for this version of installer) prior to installing it. Check your version by going to Start>Settings>Control Panel>System http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5fbc5470-b259-4733-a914-a956122e08e8&DisplayLang=en
