  1. When you log into the router, on the main screen is there a selection for advanced settings or NAT? I think under one of these is where you would find your Special Applications option. (That manual kinda sucks, doesn't it? )
  2. Welcome to the forum, BoxFan You need to first find out what ports need to be opened on the router. The BadBlue site should provide the info... I've attached a copy of the Manual for your router. Configuration is different between routers and when you get the ports, let us know.
  3. Yeah, especially if you can't get the recovery console to load. XP is having trouble either with the boot.ini file or the hard drive. I saw one reference to a possible virus issue as well. Resetting cmos, as Bones suggested, may work if the hard drive spec. got changed somehow.
  4. Supreme1: If you are both on the same LAN (connected to the ports on the same router) you will not need to do anything with the router. Instead of ftp, you could use the file and print sharing that comes with XP.
  5. cre8or: Yeah, I wouldn't give up the original installation yet. Peeps: What model of computer do you have? You might be able to boot from the recovery cd to get to the recovery console (command prompt). If you can get there, you can use the system restore to go back to when it was running ok. The recovery disk shouldn't just automatically re-install without giving you the option to cancel the re-installation. My guess is the original problem could be a piece of hardware that has gone bad or just a faulty driver/start up program. Have you updated or installed software and/or drivers lately?
  6. Check the authenitcation screen that pops up and see if there is a check off to use that id and password for reconnection. If not, you may have to re-map it and make sure to store the id/password combo when you set it up.. You could set up an msdos batch file to execute at startup which would map and authenticate at the same time..... Network/Security people would not appreciate it, though. If you want a batch, let me know. EDIT: Here's a link for directions on re-mapping the drive, but you need to disconnect the existing drive first. Go to my computer then right mouse click once on the drive and select disconnect. http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/windows_fcab_connect_drive.mspx
  7. Depending on how the share is configured, it should just reconnect when the shortcut for the cei program is clicked. Are you having to provide an id and password to access the share?
  8. You can put a new drive in and should be able to access the files on the old drive. When you get into the machine, you will see a cable connected to the hard drive. You will need to disconnect the old drive from the cable and put it on the new drive, then, depending on the config. of your machine, change the jumper setting on the old drive to slave and connect it to the other connector on that cable. If you have another cable feeding the cd-rom (many configs are done this way) you can put it on the second connector on that cable instead. You can use cable select (CS) instead of slave for the hard drive jumper on the old drive, but I've had issues using CS in the past. File copying and moving will be faster with the drives on different cables (Controllers)......
  9. It's amazing that people will still fall for something like that, especially in this day and age.............
  10. I'd leave it there......
  11. What operating system are you running on the machine which won't connect? I'm assuming you have a wired router.............. Wire your cablemodem to the wan port on the router, then drop a wire to one of the ports on the router for each of the other computers. Power cycle as FallowEarth suggests after connecting everything up. You don't need to "share" the connection to the internet because the router is performing that function for you. If your other machines have access to the internet, check to make sure the netowork adapter settings on the computer that doesn't have access by comparing the settings with one of the other machines.
  12. Better than dialup and some direcway

  19. Is the new fan plugged into the motherboard directly or one of the 4 pin power supply jacks?
  20. Yeah, I see it worse when the speed from here is lower. Just ran a test and it hung there for just a couple of seconds. ::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 3330 Kbps about 3.3 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 406 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (main) Test Time:: Fri May 20 2005 21:09:11 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time) Bottom Line:: 59X faster than 56K 1MB download in 2.52 sec Diagnosis: Looks Great : 8.68 % faster than the average for host (adelphia.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-Y2NO3WS0E
  21. Sometimes it sticks there, sometimes it doesn't for me. Running firefox 1.0.4. I find when my speeds are down the screen capture that Netmasta posted holds true.
  22. Gotta love the Ghost. Best program I've found for backing up full systems and replicating "same hardware" hard drive installs!
  23. If you still have the cover off, check to make sure all your fans are turning while it's running. (CPU especially).
  24. I agree with bwt: but if you want to test, do what cholla suggests and then shutdown, unplug, hit the power button, then plug back in and start'er up to see if your time stays or not. Sounds like a battery to me as well.
  25. Worst comes to worst, you may be able to get replacement media from Microsoft. See the link below for details: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326246
