  1. Comcast has been upgrading for quite some time now. The packages are: Basic Package 3000/256 upgraded to 4000/384 Enhanced Package 4000/384 upgraded to 6000/768 See more here in the Comcast section: Comcast Is Upgrading Us!! 2. You definitely want the latest drivers for your NIC. Go directly through the manufacturer's website to get them. Your speed should be alot faster though. VanBuren will be able to help you out more on tweaking your connection to get the most out of it. He'll see this post and offer help.
  3. Well, here is a screenshot of Everest. This program could very well be what you are looking for.
  4. Or, you could just build a highend machine for hundreds less, but faster if you go with an Athlon 64. It'll run so much better because you'll know that all high quality parts are in it. Building is the way to go...IMO
  5. I think it all boils down to paying for the name. It's like going to a small time auto repair shop a friend referred you to. They have great mechanics and can do everything for a sweet price, as opposed to going up to a big name, full service garage who also does everything, but for a back-breaking amount of money. The same amount of work was done, but you paid more at the big name company.
  6. You can go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information. After the window opens up, look over on the right for: System Manufacture System Model. (Manfacture is your listed Brand). Using Window's system tool is ok, but I would highly recommend you do this: Download Everest Home Edition 1.51. Once you install it, everything about your system is detailed and even connected to links that will take you right to the site to get the latest drivers for chipsets, sound cards and a host of other stuff. This program was formerly named aida32. You can get the program at this link: Everest Home Edition 1.51 It's free
  7. I had heard previously that he ran off with the money. If this is, in fact, a true story, then I think Ed Webber is a low life, piece of shit. Honestly, I believe the story.
  8. Yep, trial & error turned me into a junkie Now I build pc's from the ground up and service them for several friends, family, and friends of friends & family. It started back with the Commodore 64 for me: Old Computers That's when my true love for pc's became evident...ahhh, just thinking about the old commands: Type: LOAD"*",8,1 or LOAD"$",8 Press: Return...wait 5-20 minutes for game or program to load & return you to its, flashing, square curser. Type: Run...wait 5 mins to 1 or more hours for the game or program to start up (depending on what you were doing). Gotta love technology!
  9. The only OS's from the poll I've actually used are Win2000 & WinXP.
  10. Right-click on My Computer, select "Manage". Once computer management opens up, select "Disk Management" from the left column. If you don't see your missing drive displayed in the right top window at this time, you can right click on "Disk Management" and
  11. As recently as July 2004, Firefox had less than 1 percent market share. Since the browser went out of beta in November, it's been rapidly adopted, sneaking past some of the top browsers of years past. Firefox is officially a "major" Web browser, says M. Victor Janulaitis, Janco's chief executive. "If you include Apple and Linux, then Mozilla has more market share than all other browsers combined, except for Microsoft," Janulaitis observes in the study. "This is a shift. Users are beginning to see an alternative to Microsoft and are willing to try it." According to the data, Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) maintains its preeminence among North American browsers, with a combined 84.85 percent market share. Firefox comes in second with a 4.48 percent stake, followed by Netscape (3.03 percent); AOL (2.20 percent); MSN (0.58 percent); and the still-obscure Opera (0.34 percent). Not all analysts see the same rosy picture for Firefox on the horizon. According to a recent study by Gartner, if and when Microsoft chooses to respond to the threat posed by Mozilla's new browser, it will probably easily regain any market share it lost in recent months. Firefox's recent, impressive growth is consequently "not inherently sustainable," the report concludes. Article: Browser Wars: Who's Winning, Who's Losing Here is the bottom line as I see it. Whatever ground other browsers have gained in the last year, Microsoft can get it back whenever they want with IE. Nothing can take the place of internet explorer. It will always be the number 1 browser. No matter how much people hate it, they just have to suck it up. The 84.85% market share that Microsoft holds will easily rise above 90% by this fall. When IE7 drops, everyone will take part in using it. Once again, it will blow all other browsers away. Another article: What's Next For Internet Explorer 7.0? -Microsoft officials haven't indicated when IE 7 will be generally available, but Firefox's continuing encroachment presumably will spur the company to move as quickly as possible. In mid-January, IE's market share on Windows PCs had slipped to 92.7% from 96.7% in June, according to WebSideStory Inc., a Web analytics firm that tracks browser usage. WebSideStory is expected to release updated Web browser statistics within the next few days. Tabbed browsing will more than likely be implemented.
  12. Bill Gates has never done anything to me personally. As a matter of fact, he's never done anything to you either. Don't hate the playa. Blaming everything on young Bill has played out. Get off the bandwagon. Anyway, it's a personal preference. I just like IE way better. That's my personal opinion. Plus, I have always put up higher scores with IE than with any other browser. 1 :::.. 13. Internet Explorer...there is no substitute! With IE7, Microsoft will finally slam the door in the digital faces of other browsers, setting the record straight and taking back their rightful place as "King of the Browsers". Dropping the bomb on FF, Opera, Avant, and others a long time ago would have been great! All hail Internet Explorer!!! Can you do this with FF?
  14. So, has just about everyone received their upgrades yet? If so, that's great. If not, what states/areas are left waiting?
  15. There are two really popular sites that offer the tools needed for uncapping. I won't post the links, but the names are: TheoryShare & TCNISO Such tools they offer are: DHCP Force NETBoot SnmpCfgAdmin 1.4 TFTPD32 ConfigEdit CMFirm3 These tools are utilized to great extent when your firmware has been flashed using NetBoot. One site will try to convince you that a serial cable is needed to flash your firmware, when, in fact, it is not needed. This particular site generates most of its money from serial cables, pre hacked modems, Sigma 1.3 thru 1.5b firmware, and a host of other things, thus encouraging n00bs to buy their products. The other site just sales modems mainly. Success has been reached mainly using the Surfboard cable modem series (SB3100, SB4100, SB4200, SB4220), although some people have reached their goal using certain RCA & 3COM cable modems. Until very recently, SB5100 cable modems had been unhackable. With the development of a TSOP Programmer dubbed "Blackcat", SB5100 cable modems are now added to the list of hackable, undetectable cable modems. The infamous Sigma firmware is being developed for the SB5100 cable modem and will be available soon. A word of advice to those who plan to venture into the world of uncapping: This should not be regarded as a hobby, or something to do just to have fun. If you are bandwidth starved, you may want to consider moving to Texas where you can get FIOS right now (ask Clarence about FIOS...he's blazing fast). Uncapping is against the law! Penalties can and in most cases will result in you being banned for life from your ISP and many others (especially if you use the same name). Jail or prison time is always an option. Don't think that you will get a tap on the wrist just because you claim you didn't know what you were doing. ISP's are fully aware that it is a technical & complex set of steps that are needed to be carried out in order for an individual to uncap his/her cable modem. They will be pissed off & will return fire immediately. Uncapping is not the thing to do and is recommended to evade it at all costs
  16. Microsoft said Tuesday that Japanese hackers had discovered a potential weakness in its copy protection technology but that the software company fixed the flaw before it was widely used. 17. SVCD (Super Video Compact Disc) is closer to DVD quality than VCD (Video Compact Disc). I just bought this dvd player for $64.95 a few days ago, and it plays virtually everything. With this player, you don't even have to use DVD-R disc. I just take the DVD quality movie from my hard drive and burn it with any program like regular data. The movie plays flawlessly and looks like DVD quality (or however it looked on your monitor). This is all done without encoding the move to VCD or SVCD. Money well spent. View the player here: Philips DVP642 What is SVCD? More Info Here SVCD stands for "Super VideoCD". A SVCD is very similiar to a VCD, it has the capacity to hold about 35-60 minutes on 74/80 min CDs of very good quality full-motion video along with up to 2 stereo audio tracks and also 4 selectable subtitles. A SVCD can be played on many standalone DVD Players and of course on all computers with a DVD-ROM or CD-ROM drive with the help of a software based decoder / player. It is also possible to use menus and chapters, similiar to DVDs, on a SVCD and also simple photo album/slide shows with background audio. The quality of a SVCD is much better than a VCD, especially much more sharpen picture than a VCD because of the higher resolution. But the quality depends how many minutes you choose to store on a CD, less minutes/CD generally means higher quality. What is VCD? More Info Here VCD stands for 'Video Compact Disc' and basically it is a CD that contains moving pictures and sound. If you're familiar with regular audio/music CDs, then you will know what a VCD looks like. A VCD has the capacity to hold up to 74/80 minutes on 650MB/700MB CDs respectively of full-motion video along with quality stereo sound. VCDs use a compression standard called MPEG to store the video and audio. A VCD can be played on almost all standalone DVD Players and of course on all computers with a DVD-ROM or CD-ROM drive with the help of a software based decoder / player. It is also possible to use menus and chapters, similiar to DVDs, on a VCD and also simple photo album/slide shows with background audio. The quality of a very good VCD is about the same as a VHS tape based movie but VCD is usually a bit more blurry. If you want better quality checkout SVCD,CVD or DVD.
  18. No problem young'n. Sent you some additional info about the program...check your email.
  19. This will definitely result in bad karma my friend. Like reno said, if the items you purchased are very expensive, you will be in deep shit. Even if the stuff is cheap, it depends on the person that owns the card and their decision on how to handle the situation. Once the law gets involved, especially if it's considered felony grand theft, it will be out of the hands of the cardholder. You will need to get a program titled "East-Tec Eraser 2004" and run it on one of the higher erase prevention wipes to clean you HD. Use one that prevents Hardware & Software data recovery. I use the one titled "Stop Hardware Recovery (DoD)". Be sure to burn your most important information first . Good Luck!
  20. Us IE7 users will get a to sample the new version this summer (Beta). I know it'll be tight. IE7 is the best browser around. True, it may have its flaws/security risks, but all browsers do. Most people just hate Bill Gates for whatever reason and choose to target his programs. Anyway, here is the article: IEBlog - IE7 Other popular browsers have security flaws too: Mozilla and Firefox Vulnerabilities Identified Firefox flaw raises phishing fears
  21. Yeah, I have the 6000/768 service now. I get what I pay for when I use my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100 Series modem. It's just the SB4200 that won't get down for me. This really pisses me off. I'd rather use my surfboard .
  22. Thxz netmasta. It's crazy though. My levels seem to be ok. I just don't understand why it won't get past 4Mbps. 23. Did Angel_j_d ever come back around with his accelerator? I'd like to see what kind of speeds a broadband connection could get out of that thing. Has anyone else found anything similar to it? Just wondering...
  24. When I connect my SB4200, I can't reach my advertised speeds. I can't seem to get past 4Mbps down. I'm wondering if it has something to do with my downstream powerlevel. I'm not completely sure, but I don't think - 8 dBmV is very good. The upload speeds seem to be fine on all tests. As soon as I connect my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100 Series modem, I get great speeds both ways. What's the deal? I posted a pic for reference. EDIT: What happened to the auto resizing of attached images? Looks huge
  25. Wow. I feel bad for Edward Webber. I wonder if the MPAA will hand over records of users to the courts. The way the site was asking for donations to fight the case, I thought they had a pretty good shot. - Excerpt taken from Earthtimes.org - ...LokiTorrent, which was owned by Edward Webber, directed people to downloadable copies of copyrighted movies. Webber is finned $1-million in a judgment issued by a Dallas court. An MPAA notice has replaced the home page of the site. Anyway, here are the links for those who are interested.: LokiTorrent.com Full Article
