  1. As many of you know, Comcast has been planning upgrades for their customers. The roll-out is scheduled to start in Jan. 2005, and it has. Here is a breakdown of what the new speeds will be (among other things). Q: What will the new advertised speeds be? A: The base package (silver) will be 4000/384. The $10 add on tier (gold) will be 5000/768. Q: What will the new caps be? A: The caps will be 4300/384 and 5300/768 for silver and gold, respectively. Q: Will there be a price increase for HSI? A: Not at this time. Q: Will all Comcast subscribers get the upgrade? A: Yes, everyone will get it. Some will get it sooner then others based on a roll-out schedule. Q: When can I expect the upgrade? A: The upgrades will begin in early 2005. There are a few test areas that already have the upgrade. Q: What are the test areas? A: Knoxville TN, Naples, FL and Washington D.C areas. Q: Can I call Comcast to find out when I will be upgraded? A: No, the reps do not have or are not allowed to release the upgrade schedule at this time. (I'm getting ready to call anyway) Q: Will I have to purchase/lease a new modem? A: No, this speed upgrade will not require a new modem. Q: Does Comcast have to upgrade my area to QAM 256 before the speed upgrades. A: No, but it would be beneficial to Comcast to do so. Q: Will the new speed upgrade be automatic or will I have to reboot my modem? A: In most cases you will need to reboot your modem. Q: Are there any other new speed tiers? A: Yes, Comcast has added a 6/1.5 tier for "true" business customers. Q: What happened to Pro? A: The Pro package is slowly being phased out in all areas. Current Pro customers should get the upgrade, but they would save a lot of money by switching to the gold tier. There have been several reports from people that have the new speeds already. Comcast plans to be finished between Q1 - Q2. I wonder if anyone can get the business account.. So far I've heard: It is a business tier, part of what is going to be referred to as the "Hospitality" tier. I'm not sure if it's going to be available to any body other then hospitality customers at this time. There are two tiers (Hospitality One and Hospitality High Speed). -by Hospitality i'm referring to places such as hotels, lodges, etc. Please post any information you have about this. Everyone that contacts tech support won't get positive answers, but those that do, please share.
  2. Since this is a thread about anti-spyware, I figured what the hell. Here is a good program that many of you already use (as I do) called Spyware Blaster. It protects from [glow=red,2,300]DoubleClick[/glow]
  3. Well spoken Rev. I'm looking forward to reading the documents. I wasn't aware of DoubleClick being associated with their site. Being that I have a good share of protection running, DoubleClick doesn't seem to get through. Hopefully it's blocked in stealth mode. I log into the same account that I've had for a few years now, and I never realized that I was potentially at risk to spyware. Thxz for pointing that out.
  4. DriverGuide.com is still around. You can usually find what you need from there.
  5. Viewing the last screenshot, you can see that, on my machine, Microsoft's program found 21 infected files and 234 infected registry locations. That's spread out between the 5 spyware programs detected. Not too shabby. EDIT: This is a pretty good comparison also: MS AntiSpyware vs Ad-Aware vs SpyBot
  6. Thxz fellas. DJVageli, I just started the install and it began as expected. What type of error(s) are you getting?
  7. Ok. I figured that I would put Microsoft's spyware remover up against a few popular ones we've been using. 1.) Webroot Spy Sweeper (Program Version 3.5.0

  12. What , if any, audio controller do you have listed inside device manager? right-click on my computer/ select properties/select the hardware tab/ click the device manager button: Are you familiar with installing drivers from there? If you are, I suggest you try the Win2000 audio drivers from the main site (if you haven't already). At 80.48KB, there won't be any special software included. It'll be just the drivers. Windows 2000 seems to be the closest OS to XP, so those set of drivers might be you best shot.
  13. OK. Give me the exact name of your motherboard so I can do some research for you.
  14. Im not sure if the NT4 drivers will work or not. Do you have the latest XP chipset drivers from that page? Those drivers control the function of your onboard audio. (if I'm not mistaken).
  15. (Assuming that you have highlighted "Summary" on the left column under "Computer") Is the text blue? If so you can click on it and go straight to the site and get the drivers you need. If not, scroll up to the Motherboard section and observe the motherboard name. If it's listed in blue text, you can click on it and open up the vendor's website which, in turn, will allow you to follow the links to you motherboard's support page. What is the name of of your MB anyway?
  16. AIDA32 couldn't keep it up, so Lavalys had to step it up a notch and take over. Their program is basically the same as AIDA32, but better. Sisoft Sandra is a great program also. I've use it before in the past. I just wanted to offer JustinOhioRR a quick fix.
  17. You can download a free program named "Everest Home Edition" which will detect everything on your system and offer download links from actual manufactures. Here is the download link: Everest Home Edition Here is a pic:

The .xls file (Microsoft Excel Worksheet) shows the best results in order. Here is another list that displays rankings. Ranked Results I'm currently using Kaspersky Personal Version 5.0.18 along with Sygate Personal Firewall Pro 5.5 Build 2710. Both are light on the system and work great.
  19. A couple of years back I had a PC-CAM 750. It took great digital pics and was the best webcam I'd ever used. Both of those features worked very well because of the CCD optical sensor. When Creative launched the more recent PC-CAM 850, 880, 900, and 920, they seemed to have taken a step down in the image processing & clarity catagory, largely due to the fact that they were designed around a CMOS sensor. From a digital camera standpoint, the images turn out very distorted at high resolutions. As a webcam, there is
  20. Yeah, the specs for that camera are pretty damn nice. I just didn't see a wabcam feature. I really want to get a high quality digital camera (with a CCD lens) that supports webcam capabilities as well.
  21. Yep, it costs. (for the average person) If you're computer savy, you'll figure out a different way.
  22. I use SNAGIT 7.1.2. It does everything in question here and much more. Check out the screens.
  23. For the past week I've been reading several reviews on digital cameras/webcams (PC-Cams) in hopes of getting a good one. At first, I narrowed my choices down to a couple of selections. Which were: 1.) Logitech ClickSmart 820 Main Features Resolution 2.0 Megapixel Webcam Capability Yes Colour Support Colour Optical Sensor Type CCD Total Pixels 2,100,000 pixels Effective Sensor Resolution 1,920,000 pixels Digital Zoom 2 x Shooting Modes Frame movie mode Exposure Modes Automatic White Balance Automatic Digital Video Format AVI Still Image Format JPEG Video Capture 10 fps - 60 sec - AVI - 320 x 240 - with 8MB built-in memory - 320 x 240 - web camera mode - 640 x 480 - web camera mode 2.) Creative PC-CAM 880 Main Features Resolution 2.0 Megapixel / 3.0 Megapixel (interpolated) Webcam Capability Yes Colour Support Colour Optical Sensor Type CMOS Total Pixels 2,000,000 pixels Interpolated Image Resolution 3,145,728 pixels Digital Zoom 4 x Shooting Modes Frame movie mode Exposure Modes Automatic White Balance Automatic Digital Video Format AVI Still Image Format JPEG Video Capture 8 fps - 76 sec - AVI - 640 x 480 - with 16MB built-in memory 15 fps - 98 sec - 320 x 240 - with 16MB built-in memory 10 fps - 640 x 480 - web camera mode Although both cameras are very close in comparison, the difference that matters most to me is the sensor type. As you can see, the "Logitech ClickSmart 820" has a CCD Sensor (Charged-Coupled Device) while the "Creative PC-CAM 880" has a CMOS Sensor (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor). Being that CCD sensors produce far better image quality than CMOS sensors, I decided to go with the "Logitech ClickSmart 820" due to the fact that it received better reviews than the "Creative PC-CAM 880" (which received several bad reviews). I had my mind made up until I came across this marvelous device. Trust 910Z PowerC@m Optical Zoom Home Page Specs Main Features Resolution 3.1 Megapixel / 5 Megapixel (interpolated) Webcam Capability Yes Colour Support Colour Optical Sensor Type CCD Effective Sensor Resolution 3,014,656 pixels Light Sensitivity ISO 100, ISO 200 Digital Zoom 4 x Shooting Modes Landscape, portrait mode, macro, night scene Exposure Modes Programme, automatic White Balance Automatic, presets White Balance Presets Incandescent, fluorescent, daylight, shade Still Image Format JPEG So, in closing, I've decided to go with the "Trust 910Z PowerC@m Optical Zoom". I have a problem though. I can't seem to find a vendor that has a US shipping option. Does anyone know if this camera is available in the US, and if not, is there an available english version? And how much is the listed price in US money? Look Here I added a .pdf document for those interested in CCD vs CMOS.
