if dell isnt running a promo.. then i wouldnt bother.. it does have a faster gpu and bigger screen.. but that the systems are almost the same in performance.. Even though I am a dell fan i would stick with the HP -
clicking the link would give you this answer..  Some of the current enhancements include a better software update system to serve browser upgrades, the ability to reorder tabs through drag and drop functionality, and improved pop-up blocking.

That is true.. but you are not going to notice it all that much on stuff like the system calculator.. or ms office... AMD is starting to take over the compression test.. winrar, lame, and divx.. all have strong amd at the top or second.. -

It is hard to tell.. Maximum pc is heavy amd.. just about every system they build is amd.. but that is also what the high end market is currently using.. Tom's seems pretty fair.. they tend to do what ever is big at the time.. I havent seen all that much Intel on there lately.. There is no doubt that AMD is the gamers choice.. I agree with you 100%.. again.. however, in desktop apps.. most of the time intel will take the cookie.. but just by a little bit.. -

This is what I am going off.. http://www.behardware.com/articles/546-5/pentium-m-dfi-855gme-mgf.html It isnt exact.. you are compairing a moble chip against Intel's flag ship.. Here is a good as of right now Tom's doesnt have the 57 up yet.. but against a 55 the 3.72 EE does beat the 55 in the Sandra CPU tests.. http://www23.tomshardware.com/index.html?modelx=33&model1=57&model2=18&chart=4 Change the benchmark to gaming.. and prepair for an attack of the AMD chips.. The only intel chip up high is the 570..which is 3.8 -

Umm.. they are compairable.. some what.. a 1.8 pentium m will run about as fast as a 2.8-3.0 p4.. that isnt bad.. I have not seen any of the numbers for the AMD platform yet.. My vote is for the HP- zd8000 series -
yeah it is logged..that is how the RIAA can sue people.. they request the ip logs from the ISP then send out lawsuits...
-
Yes they know who has what IP.. via MAC address of the modem.. Are you changing your ip on a network or your physical ip?

I don't have broadband, do I even belong here?
Swimmer replied to ncbear1976's topic in General Discussion
I started coming here when I had dial-up.. then joined the forum when I got my broadband.. I am sure that when you can get broadband you will be able to make one hell of an informed decision on which one to get. Just look around in the ISP area and the make it faster to see what some of our members are paying and their speeds.. You will be a regular in no time. Welcome aboard! -

Depending on what you are going to doing with the laptop.. I would move away from the p4.. It is just going to be hot, the battery life isnt going to be there... I have a 745 on the 400mhz platform not the 533.. I love it and the batter life on a 15.4 widescreen is about 4.5 hours. I have a 60 gig Hitachi 7200rpm hard drive. You are going to be able to tell the difference between a 4200 and a 7200 or even a 5400 notebook drive.. In november Hitachi is release a 100 gig at 7200rpm.. which is going to be the fast hard drive for a notebook on the market.. As far as Tigerdirect.. I have had awesome sucess with them. I ordered 3 laptops and 2 laser printers, all referbs, for my swim team before i left to college.. all were high quality units that were in awesome condition.. I didnt using shipping i picked them up from Naperville warehouse. -
PC133 is backwards compatible.. it is a standard.. you cant sell it if it isnt.. and call it PC133.. And if he bought pc66 then the other module would slow down to pc66.. the system runs only as fast as the slowest sitck of ram. My guess is that it is a sizing problem..

As far as i know the entire prescott series ran hot.. there wasnt a single chip that ran "cool" compaired to the Northwood series that they replaced..

I am not sure why we are flaming here.. There are 2 different chips on the market right now.. Single core 32bit and dual core 64bit.. Both AMD and Intel have offerings. The myth that AMD is less reliable than Intel.. False.. Tomshardware just ran a test on this.. it was found that AMD is 30% more efficent than a top of the line intel chip.. AMD's quality had improved greatly from the days of the k6-2.. http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20050714/stresstest-02.html#buying_tips_amd_more_efficient So it looks like Intel might have reliablity problems.. if you can run it on a nForce4 setup.. kinda pointless if you dont want the shell out large sums of money for an Intel motherboard... So Intel might be a contender in a while once new drivers are released.. however, we all know that AMD has had the gaming market for some time now.. I doubt Intel will retake it.. It seems that Intel is beginning to focus on the professional/business market. BTW this was a comparison between the 4800+ and the 840EE.. Since few games use hyperthreading at this point.. there is a very slight performance increase with the intel.. and since the only game that is dual core at this point is far cry.. and when hyperthreading was turned off.. the 4800 would be faster.. So that leaves the question what is the point to 64bit computing.. The future is leading there.. it is estimated that by 2006 most games will support 64bit and be able to use the dual core features.. It is nessary to have one right now.. No.. it is more for show and bragging rights.. but if you want the fastest performance right now.. that is what you are going to end up with.. The athlon 64 is a good processor line.. along with the fx line. for gaming. If you are going to be doing encoding then you are going to want an Intel. Windows xp 64 was kinda of a flop.. and Vista will be the first os to offer full support for 64bit.. if you are interested in gaming and the used of dual core and 64bit.. check this out.. http://www.tomshardware.com/business/20050708/index.html Here is a set of benchmarks put out today.. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1854785,00.asp take a look that that if you have questions about the gaming performance of the athlon and the intel.

Yeah I know what you mean about MS.. they will replace Office keys.. I have had to do that before.. mine came up as stolen.. so I had to call into ms.. Big pain.. but that is alright.. we got it working.. Yah FDisk is an option..or you could create a dual boot with Partition magic and then install the new os on the new partition.. then delete the old one.. Fdisk is kinda risky if you dont know what you are doing.. I would not recommend this to someone who doesnt know what they are doing.. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q255867
