  1. My favorite part of the article..
  2. Haha.. that is good.. but is dont know if it the American thing to do.. BTW didnt AT&T just host the olympics? wonder if the athletes got free calls?
  3. yeah talk about.. You would think that calls would be free.. Maybe those people stealing network nodes, http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-12466 , are going to crate them and ship them over to Iraq and Afghanistan. Maybe AT&T will be able to recover some of their equipment. Sure the USA is all about making the buck.. but when you are charging the people who are serving your country to protect you ass WAY to much.. something is wrong..
  4. Just read this.. This is from the same company that just bought SBC to create the "most advanced IP network".
  5. take a look at this.. you might supprise your self.. http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=30128 still not ready for prime time use.
  6. Alright... This is a completly different product.. It has both a radio that can produce waves in A, B and G. Again the third party firmware is not supported. Now on to the original post... xxzgmfx20axx, the reason that it looks nothing like what is currently available is because Linksys redesigned if for v.2. My guess is that you have v.1 hardware. Which yes.. like every linksys product sucks. V1 is Broadcom based and just about everyone in the hardware know that this manufacturer produces chipsets that are not the most advanced out there. Since this is a Broadcom based router, for v1, no third party firmware will run on it. I would suggest power cycling the modem and the router at the same time. Make sure that they are disconnected from each other. Also you might want to rest the factory settings. The random restarting is due to a memory error that is corrected in the V.2 hardware with the latest firmware from Linksys. However, I have been unable to locate any firmware for the v.1 on linksys' site.
  7. I would check walmart, target, and some of the smaller office supply stores.. For some reason I thought that Circuitcity had that V3.1 on their shelves.
  8. yeah not the best thing to have.. you could run into buffer problem and it would not be as efficient as having them on seperate channels.
  9. just change the boot order.. that will take care of all of these issues.
  10. Right.. If u are on the same domain then you can remote assist without an invite.. different domain/subnet you would need an invite.. however, that is not how remote desktop works.. if you read up on remote desktop you will read this from the microsoft website.. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/mobility/getstarted/remoteintro.mspx and here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/northrup_03may16.mspx You can vpn in if you are concernded about secuity but it is not nessary..In fact Remote Desktop is just a new name for the Terminal Services Client that was included on windows 2000 to remote admin server boxes..
  11. yeah i think it should work.. You can always erase some floppies.. just reformat them..
  12. like ryan said..not such thing as a noob question here..
  13. It might only ready 137 gigs until you install the os.. that was the capacity barrier that was breached and patched a while back.. try changing the boot order of the devices..
  14. I think that the idea behind the two seperate programs is remote desktop allows the user to log in to the computer and use it like a mobile computer. Remote assistance would be by invite only.. Meaning that the client computer would have to set-up the request.. something that is impossible to do unless you have someone else at that terminal. That is how I see it. They are basically vnc made by MS.. just different uses.. and this way security isnt an issue.. because you can have one on and the other off..
  15. here ya go.. http://www.bootdisk.com/
  16. if you put the dd-wrt firmware you can increase the power output.. also try adjusting the antennas, an moving it away from any metal, radios, speakers, and computers.
  17. no.. you can specify the domain.. it is an advanced option..
  18. yeah.. you need to change to boot order.. when the computer first turns on look in the upper right.. i know that dell if you hit f12 when the system is loading you can select a temp boot device.
  19. it should just be fdisk... you can try some partition programs.. I know there is one that is exactly Partition Magic 7 that runs off of a Linux install cd.
  20. you could vnp into the network and get around the stuff most likely.. assuming that they allow IPSEC tunnels. That would be faster than remote desktopping in..
  21. I would dump it.. and see if you can find one at some other store. It opens up other possibilities if something does go wrong.
  22. This is starting to roll out right now.. some other forums are reporting speeds.. of about 17050 / 1.2ish.. I guess comcast is call it the "gold" package..
  23. haha try and get a different version.. I know that walmart still sells the v.3.1
  24. V5 is a completely different router.. not the same hardware so the firmware doesnt work on it.. kinda sucks but that how linksys decided to eleminate the third party firmwares
  25. CA3LE is prefect to answer this question.. i believe we are in the gigs per month..
