I would try it and see if that resolves your address issues on your camera.. I do think there is a huge security risk in having a camera out on the net, from a hardware standpoint. I dont there the is really anything that the can do to it that could cause it to malfunction or shoot laser beams out of the lense..

my guess is that they are doing remote backup... that can slam a router and kill throughput.. The only way to fix that type of problem, if that is what it is, is to build a separate dedicated network that handles all of that type of traffic. My guess is that also their QoS give priority to that type of traffic during those later hours. As far as the ping times.. I agree that most gamers would bring up that issue and about 99% of the time it is when the long haul carrier network come into play.. but for some reason they have always given me problems that if my ping is below 85ms to their site then there is nothing they can do about it.. even if the modem is going in and out.. I guess for them it is a "good" connection.. What ever.. just my wonderful experience.. As far as cingular goes.. I am on my 5th phone of this year... So far all of the "like new" phones they have shipped me have broken. Now I am going to try a V557 replacing my second V551.. I am just waiting for the day that the FCC and FTC investigates those guys..

yeah alpha 1 is going to be extremely unstable... but they move pretty quick once it is out to fix bugs and get the next build out.. I remember when 1.5 was just starting.. there were huge memory leaks.. by RC1 everything was pretty stable and you could use it as a full time browser..

the release date has been set for this coming friday for the first public release of firefox 2... this is still an alpha product so it will not be stable. http://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox2/StatusMeetings/2006-03-14#PRD_Review_.2F_Sanity_Check

I will tell ya something.. I have a thing for cingular people.. I always get the run around from those people on the phone and their stores are even worse. At the end of the day when someone who doesnt understand IT/broadband stuff has their connection go down it can make them really pissed off... I am sure that the in house techs take a lot of crap for the company. But at the end of the day the company is selling you a service. If it isnt working what is the point of having it? haha double post.. hey thecableguy.. is there a customer SLA that we dont know about? I know for most business connection, coming from a national providor on a non dedicated line, it is at like 99.8 per year... which allows for about 32 hours or so of outages. Are they on a seperate node or something that the companies can offer that type of SLA to them and not to the normal consumer?

haha nice browser... I am not even sure why it does that instead of auto wrapping the urls.. I have a feeling it is just how firefox is.. However, this is an improvement over a little while ago where the url would leave the physical box. Now it should stay in the box but scroll..

Alright.. here is what I would try.. channel 5 is an odd channel to choose for a wifi network. Try either 1,3,9,11. Next move away from the router just a little bit like the there side of a room.. Contrary to popular believe sometimes sitting right next to the router isnt the best thing to do.

First welcome to the forum.. To be truthful... gaming is a hit and miss thing. Latency is the time for a packet to go to the server and back. Now your connection can be running at 45mbs but if you have a crappy path to the server it isnt really going to matter.. The spikes, my guess, would be related to traffic that is local to the server. Depending on where the server is located traffic can be prioritized to be sent before other traffic. Some times when you are a little short on cash for a server you dont care about this. Since traffic tends to die down when more gamers are online, normally night. Do you see a difference between day and night gaming? Again.. not a whole lot you can do..

my guess is that it is some type of business package.. it seems that most of the Big Pipe's business deals have static ips so that you can run servers off of them.

I will try it i just need to know what Ceasar's is..

What is Ceasar's? little Ceasar?

The idea of static IPs is kinda of a thing of the past in the consumer world. Like just about everyone has said, with DHCP on routers most providors provide 1 IP, normally dynamic, per customer. A few things about static IPs first. Static means it doesnt change. This has it advantages and its disadvantages. First if you are going to host anytype of server or service on the internet having a Static IP makes it about 300% easier. Second, since it never changes it does leave you open to DoS attacks and other little fun exploits that some people run. Now for a solution. This depends on what you want to do. There are two things to consider: 1) Security- Since you are have static IPs they are never going to change. Which means that if you have spyware or your computer become a portal for hackers, it is that much harder to get rid of. In comes the router. I believe that the ISP recommened this for your safety and your computer well being. What the router is going to do is filter out about 99% of all request that come from the internet looking for ports that are open on the computers themselves. Of course the router can only be so effictive.. I would still recommend installing local firewalls, software such as zonealarm, to protect incase something does get throught the router. 2) Easy of setup- The other thing that you need to consider is how easy it is to maintain. If you are going to use an IP camera the most important thing about using a device like that is to make sure that IP stays the same. Either way you are going to have to assign a static IP address for the camera so that the firewall rules go through the router correctly. This also means that you are going to have to open ports for the camera to be acessable over the internet. Since you already have 5 static IP addresses I would recommend keeping the router. I have one of many solutions that you could use. You could also disable DHCP but then you would loose some of the secuity of a router.

I am a bit torrent fan.. but some ISP, comcast for instance, is beginning to throttle bandwidth based on how much torrent traffic you have coming in or out.. I guess they dont like the fact that over 50% of network traffic world wide is P2P related.

That is one of the best sites out there for people who are just getting started with that program. It is amazing how accurate it is also!

haha yes you do...

that is what a lot of people do.. get an old machine and run it 24/7 or as close as you can.. just make sure it is secure and kept up todate!

just about every wireless router that you can get at retail stores is 2.4ghz.. only 802.11A is 5.8ghz.. and that doesnt have the range of 2.4.. But yes you are correct that wired is going to be faster than wireless..
