You need to turn off remote administration.. My guess is that it is running on port 80 which is the same port that IIS runs off of.. Either use ssh, the best way to remote admin, or change the port to an unassigned port. http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers <- should help in choosing a port Make sure that you are also forwarding to the "server" so that all request go there.. this means static IP! What ever you do dont put your machine in the DMZ.. you are just going to be asking for it. I am assuming that you have already done this but update with all patches for the os and IIS
  3. Alright here we go.. If your computers are still hook into the router.. I dont think there is a way to get them assigned a static IP from beyond the router. You could turn off DHCP but that would pretty much end about 50% of the security.. You might be able to do this with like a cisco router but that is going to cost $3000 or more. Here is what I would do. Leave all of the computers on the router. This way you can share network apps, printers, and whatever else you need. Move the camera off the router and on to the switch. You will still be able to access it as long as you know that physical IP address of the camera. Moving a computer onto a static address is only going to cause problems. If you need to print something, i think, you are going to have to VPN in and get a local address anyways. So there is no real sense in doing that and it make it about 1000% more complicated than it needs to be. Also.. if you want to control the building #1 computers or want to be able to print from building #1 to building #2 all you are going to have to do is turn off DHCP I believe on building #2s router. This way the 624 is handling all of the IP addresses. You might see a slight slow down in network speed due to the increased client load on the router. As consumer routers aren't really made to support lots of machines. One other thing.. if the Cat5 running from building #1 to building #2 is more than about 100meters, 300 ft?, you are going to run into endless collisions making your network pretty much kill itself. However, it seems to be working ok now.. So... I am going to guess that it is less than 100 meters. If you are interested in learning the best way it by trial and error.. unfortunately you are running a business.. so down time isnt really an option. Let us know if you need any more help.
  4. There is a new trailer online.. This looks like it could be one of the bigger movies of the year.. http://bitsofnews.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=3503
  5. that is the funny part.. the upload is really low.. about 1.5-1.7Mbps.. It is nice when I can find a server that is running pretty quick.. makes for 300mb file transfers in a short amount of time.
  6. Could it be because there is bandwidth reserved for the VoIP that you are no longer using? That would make sense for the upload.. but the download is a different story..
  7. let me think about it tonight and get back to you tomorrow..
  8. it can do that.. but also if you get disconnected and the server supports resumes.. you can pick up where you left off.
  9. holy cow richcornucopia... I have a dog named katie.. no pics.. she is an english springer
  10. Smoothwall on a Nokia IP330 Introduction: Since I am on a Linux craze right now I have added one more piece of Linux based hardware to my network. Many people have been running Smoothwall for quite some time now. What I have been able to do is get, with the help of a some what out-dated guide (http://wixxerd.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11), was install Smoothwall 2.0 express onto a piece of unsupported, cheap, and production class equipment. Disclaimer: testmy.net and its mods are not responsible for any damage to hardware, software, systems, or bodily harm if you decided to attempt this. I strongly recommend that you attempt this only if you are confident in your computer skills and have some time to troubleshoot. Background: What is the Nokia IP330? The Nokia IP330 was originally released in 1998-1999 and was about $5,000 US when they were originally released. Since then hardware and software for hardware firewalls and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) have improved greatly. As companies often grow equipment is replaced and you can normally get this off-lease or refurbished equipment on sites such as Ebay.com for fairly cheap. I was able to get my hardware for $63.00 shipped. This included an AMD K6-2 400MHz CPU, 256mb of SDRAM, and a 2 GB hard drive. What this piece of hardware is, basically, is a computer packed into a 1u rack mount case. The hardware is the foundation on which the software will run. As of right now I know of a few different configuration of this hardware. I was one of the fortunate ones who got a 400 MHz processor. Most of them, that I see now, are 266 MHz or 300 MHz. The other thing that is important is the amount of ram. The hardware supports up to 512mb of ram. From what I can tell it takes just standard PC100/133 SDRAM. As far as the hard drive goes, I am pretty sure you can use what ever size you need. The smaller the hard drive the more often you are going to need to clear out the logs so that you don

  17. you could do that.. but this way there is some security from the router.. you dont need to have you computer sitting on IPs that never change.
