  1. Thanks guy's this is all helpful info and am looking forward to building a new system this conroe makes my dress :haha:flyup and am going to do some research on the conroe, but being new I hope it will not be infested with all kind of (bugs) if you know what I mean. With it being new and all it may take a couple of years to work them out before perfection is achieved!!!
  2. This kind of info really helps out a lot, and I do appreciate all of the info that is going on in this thread. My PC is on the fringes of shooting craps. and I do not know how much longer it will last me. I was looking in the $500.00 range with all of the goodies I have now, however all of my memory and processor and board will have to be compatible and also upgraded to today's standards and I am not really sure what that is anymore. Got into PC's @ the end of win 95 and educated myself in win 98 up, hopefully with this additional info we can get a little more on the same page and discuss this build a little more Thank's Fred:-)
  3. I am at a point in time that requires me to dispose of the old and acquire the new, as in mother board. I have an old case and peripherals which will do quite well if the new mobo will fit. I read about 64 bit AMD's so on and so forth, however I am not really sure which way to go! I do know that I want more ram and more processing power, as in dual core. There is one more problem that I was made aware of and that is with Mr. Gates and company and that is when you change boards the hard drive thinks it is being screwed and you have to get intouch with Microsoft and give them the numbers that you installed your OP with and make them aware that you are changing mobo's. I want to keep my hard drive and OP/sys, if that is possible. What I have now is a 1.7 gig processor speed and a P/4 processor (which I will have to change) with 512 meg's of RAM I don't know what the front side buss is but it needs to be up there also. If some good person out there could give me instructions on what to do I would be forever grateful Thanks Fred
  4. not to backup or change subject matter but in my statement a few day's back here is or was what I was talking about, making statements of ? !!! what ever they decide is wrong or against national security all I was really saying was , be careful of what you say now if you will, read this, http://www.myleftwing.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=5963 and please don't get me wrong I am neither left or right in my political views I am however a true American patriot.
  5. I truly admire all of your comments, however I am deeply worried about what you speak, if you read some of the Patriot Act you could possibly be violating the law and could be put in a prison system that you have no recourse to or way out of because your thoughts could be considered terrorist, with the way the law is now written so be careful Big Brother is listening and watching. Fred
  6. work and cars which are work if you are addicted!!
  7. "The only person that is more gullible than a person that knows it all, is the person that argues with him" Thank You very much Fred
  8. I just finished reading this whole topic from front to back or from start finish which is this post. the only thing I can say about this whole mess is that we can not judge so why argue Let God do his job and we should do ours. I don't know if I am understood by that sentence but if we follow instructions we could live together and be at peace for the Ten commandments are not talking points but rather a way to live and respect each other. The Bill of Rights are not talking points but rather they are what my father and your fathers paid so that I can say what I mean and mean what I say. Thank You
  9. I guess this would be as good a place as any to ask this question, Why would my speed come back at 1.7 megs and this is on my network not so to speak out on the internet, and on Testmy it comes back at like 2.5megs. Could the servers be better on the back bone than my ISP's equipment. that is just a question not to be confused with a complaint

    Ram speed

:?I've had a strange occurrence. At one time in my computers life, actually it was in the beginning when I built it as a matter of fact. I bought one stick @512mgs of ram (dimm), it was before you could install the big memory sticks like a 1000mgs. Well any way I have only got 384 mgs now . The system is a P4 1.7gig processor the OS is XP home sp2 and the networking is adsl. I really do not know how or who or what STOLE my ram

  15. my powerco down here in Tenn. is presently working on BPL in Brownsville Tenn. no problems as of yet however every new technology will have bugs and the bugs are better than the politco's setting on their asses and fueling the independent teleco's pockets and also the major teleco's pockets the power co's. took this on their own to get a piece of the ISP pie and provide broadband to places like where I live so far back in the woods they also have to pump in the sunshine haha

  24. one quick note my isp turned off their icmp ping capability and after that it has been hard for me to calculate any rwin factors the reason they did that was because of dns attacks and was just wondering if your isp has done any thing like that in the not to distant past as to effect your tcp/ip stack instabilities and inconsistencies just a thought for what it is worth and this is a good thread BTW sure caught my attention
