  1. thank you van it will take a while to digest all of this info but I am willing to apply all of this info so as not to be left in the dark like i said after 2 years of trying to come up with the best rwin for my paticular computer it is worth the invested time
  2. Happy Holidays van the man that is very correct however if your isp has turned off the icmp ping options in their net work how can you effectively calculate latency for max rwin values in other words that is exactly what my isp has done to me as to not recieve the denial of service attacks that our network has been plaqued with in recent months or they could be just pumping smoke up my ass also I know if you change mtu in the tcp optimizer program it will ask you to return to a mtu of 1500 but I can only set the amount of data to be sent at 995 bits of data or it will start to defrag at any amount higher, strange could you educate me on latency and Rwin or : explain 1492 mtu for PPPoe which is set by the isp or 576 for dial up I really do'nt know or understand some of these formulas and they have kind of all melted together after 2 years of trying to get top performance out of this &{;" thing
  3. I want to appoligze to the forum for not reading this gents posting at the get go because cable and dsl is for sure different, there is no distance requirements on cable I was relating to a problem I had with DSL and SBC in the ST. Louis Mo. area a few years back how ever the path is the same
  4. :D I have a program that is called a Rwin calculator it is made by Big Amp if some body will help me to post the file anyone is welcome to it maybe I can do a screen shot of it and somebody may recognize it this program has mtu mss and rwin :D
  5. there are several things that happen with dhcp 1. authorization 2. hand shake and then you sync up. as mentioned before the isp is definetly at fault here be cause you can't sync up and in xdsl you have 3 or 4 different types of protocall 1.ppp 2.pppoe 3.ppoe ras so on and so on. what I hear here is no upload so your isp is at fault they need to re check the distance of your central office sounds to me like your on the fringe of dsl distance acceptance
  6. yes I made a mention to that fact about a month ago. Not only upload but download speeds are greater also, it must be in the way they wrote their program, code, script what ever it is called, as i recall i do'nt believe anybody replyied to that topic. Anyway it is remarkable on how much faster it is than the unsecure MSIE browser. Security is the reason that I changed to the FF browser in the first place, and that is where I became aware of the marked speed increases. Thanks Fred Merry Christmas to all of you good pepole on our site.
  7. OK the key phrase here is " If Your not going to use Your head You might as well have 2 that is two assholes " and by the way I do both of my brothers and he was the one that was going to stick his ass out Thanks and Happy holiday's to the Forum

  12. that is 90% of my connection advertised speed, which by the way is 1200dn&256up so in essence I am getting what I am paying for, however it is costly to the note of $65.00 a month and that is what upsets me, they (my isp) has the market cornered and there is only one alternative and that is satellite which their speeds are still even slower let's face it Peep I'am

    Tips?

you know mike some of your southeren isp's have gone to turning off their icmp ports so as not to get a (dos) denial of service attack as with my isp. I can't send any packets larger than 996 bytes before the transmission starts to defrag so in reality you can't even set your (mtu) correctly or your (mss) so it is almost impossible to set an accurate Rwin or a snd-win in your tcp/ip stack. so being able to ping with at least 1496 bytes of data is very important also your firewall could be holding you back from reaching your advertised up and downloads. Thanks Fred
  16. sorry about being a dollar short and a2 days late but as for what is being dicussed in this thread I command you Guy for all of your hard work and the people that support you you are very forunate to have the following that you have and what a site by the way very professional and educational this is what the world needs is knowledge because as you know knowledge is power and power is MONEY Thank all of you Guy's out there for sharing one hell of a site, Fred p.s. 19. this subject has brought a lot of good information to the fore front. As I have been surfing and trying to make my computer more secure and faster I have been playing with different browsers and have found out that different browesers bring different download speeds and quite substantial speeds. I've always known that speeds change with the load of data on the pipeline but I am amazed with this difference, thanks again for all the helpful information keep up the good work
  20. thanks a lot for clarifying this protocall Guy it is surely a lot more advantageous to use atm but the standard has already been set thanks again for all of the info till next time Fred
  21. fred

    ATM/IP

Is there anybody out there that can explain the advantage or disadvantage over this kind of protocall. I understand it could be faster if it is set up right and do we all have the abillity to use this kind of transmission as opposed to tcp/ip or was this technoloige just a brain fart of the internet engineneers? atm (asychronous transfer mode)IP
  22. Hey sarge One more thing try your ping times now and readjust your Rwin accordingly you will be impressed how much a little advise from the community will also improve your speeds
  23. Hey guys swimmer wanted to show his more feminine side (haha)
