  1. I  **AM** contesting!  :tickedoff:  :tickedoff:

Oh, I'll get out this contract, I got out of the first one.  I was just stupid enough to give it a second try.  I guess I just had to see if history repeated itself, IT DID!

Two accounts, two billing issues, two service issues, and each happened 32 days after activation.

and "speeds aren't guaranteed".  That's all you'll get out of HUGHES!

    ------------------

By the way, Wildblue wasn't much better.  Hello dialup!  :2funny:

  2. I'm already at Tier-4 Tech support In Florida, and at Executive Customer Care in Maryland. That didn't take but 2 days!

Write    [email protected] .  Its an attention getter if you're fed up with Hughes.

So your speeds are no where near as advertised right? they never will be either... but your contract and hughesnet will tell you that your within their specs! you are screwed buddy, for another 1 year and 11 months....

Sorry to say that, but most of us on here are old pro's at the Hughesnet game, there is nothing you can do but put up with it.

The game they play is very dangerous, trapping people in after the 30 days is bullS#!t and they know it... you could speak to a lawyer about it and see what can be done, after all they give you the 30 days to back out but then hit you after the 30 days with the crap speed.

Keep all your stats, your going to need them to fight these F#@&ers, trust me and the rest of us, we have been there....

  3. Here is a Speed Test and "WEB RESPONSE" History from Hughesnet.  As you can see, about 30 days after signup, my speeds started dropping.  This is perhaps a direct intention of their NOCC.

    *******************************************************************************************

Can you please explain the sudden change in speeds for this account?

This was a NEAR PERFECT account for 30 days.  I believe the NOCC has direct control over out account, and give us what ever speeds they want to, when ever they want.

the DOWNLOAD is the number AFTER the time, and then the D/L is displayed.,

  4. After a downhill battle with HughesNet (after my 30 day "satisfaction guaranteed period"), I've decided to cancel them.

Its an endless battle, with only one response from them "SPEEDS ARE NOT GUARANTEED".

Here is the Letter I sent to them (and in a modified format to the Better Business Bureau of Maryland).  Can you believe the BBB rated this company an "A". Are they nuts ? ?

    -------------------------------------------------------------

    June 19, 2009

I wanted to share some issues with this account and provide you an opportunity to act accordingly before this becomes a long, drawn-out journey. Also, history seems to repeat itself at Hughesnet, you'll understand that later as you read on.

First of all, we've already had a Hughesnet account previously(DSS800XXXX if you decide to read all the boring details and a 5 month journey).  It was plagued with billing and service related issues from day 1. Your corporate office decided and myself decided it was no longer worth it to continue.  So, we decided to "start over"...New install, New equipment, new billing.

We placed another order on May 10, 2009, and had our system installed on May 13, 2009.  Everything went perfect! Perfect install, new modem, new dish and transmitter, and a FULL 1.5-1.6MBPS (the maximum we could achieve on that plan PRO +).

I kept crossing my fingers each day that the service would continue "as it should"... What a difference it was from a system plagued with issues on our first system, to a near perfect system on the second install!

To further document system activity (and thus to document things should things start going down hill), I performed regular speed tests and web response tests for my own gathering at that point.  The system held a good signal strength of 165-180.  Weather never seemed to affect the system, and the speed was an average of 1.5mbps MORNING, DAY, NIGHT.  Nothing to seem to affect this system.  I could load 50 webpages at once, and the speed would hold.  I was very pleased at that point that I finally had a system, and felt the money I'd spent was well worth it to have broadband again. I never once complained at system performance, and never once thought of paying my bill. I was getting what I was paying for (value vs $ spent).

HERE IS THE POINT WHERE HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF! On DSS80XXX, even though our billing was messed up from day 1, we maintained pretty consistent speeds for the plan we were on (at the time, we were on the HOME PLAN 1.0mbps)...AFTER OUR FIRST 30 days, things started going down hill.... Speeds in the 200-300 range..the downhill battle begins.  Several tech in that long journey were out examining the system.  It was up and down. up and down.  Finally, after a phone call from Level-4 Tech Support, they tell me my system is running "within normal performance", and there was simply nothing they could do... That I was on a shared bandwidth system, and "speeds weren't guaranteed".......Even your corporate office stated "KEEP THE SYSTEM WITH ITS FLAWS, or cancel"....Wait, First time someone at Hughes admitted there were "FLAWS". So I'm in Executive Customer Care, and these people are doing "what they can" to try to keep me up and running.  HOWEVER, network operations never admits any wrong doing, NONE. Was time to depart with DSS8002748, and try again.  (Poor William, he tried).

Like I said, I was happy with DSS825XXXX (the new account), UNTIL day 32.  Here we go on a slow declining battle.  1.5mbps for 30 days straight, then here we go, speeds at low at 200kbps, and web response tests in the 30's.  Tech Support in India admitted "VERY VERY VERY BAD" (if you ever watched SEINFELD, you will see the humor in this between Jerry and Baubau (his indian friend).....NOTHING IS WRONG  WITH THE EQUIPMENT(it still at a couple of times performed to its regular speeds), nothing is different about the pc I'm using, nothings changed in the weather.

Here's my theory and why history repeats itself with Hughes.  Why is a customer given the regular speeds of his "plan" for the first 30 days, and you just "sock it to ya" on day 32-on.  my belief is that you want customers to he happy with their service during their "satisfaction guaranteed" period...sort of a confidence builder.....THEN, after a customer is in a contract with you, you get the regular run-around with "speeds aren't guaranteed" motto.  If speeds were at 90-95% of a person's plan, Then WHY would it suddenly change for no apparent reason?????  Go on the internet and google "throttling", "flow control", and many other technical terms.  some day their bandwidth is severaly crippled during the periods of 4pm to 12am (the time of which you excuse at PEAK TIME".........If that theory was CORRECT, and simply not a myth or excuse, why don't customers experience slowdowns during "peak time" during their first 30 days??? Again, most likely a knowing, deliberate control of your Network Operations.  I got 1.5mbps my first 30 days......why just decide to slow it down?  many theories that me and other customers have voiced.  Like I said search the internet for issues on Hughes, you'd be astounded at the results.

Why am I writing this?  Because I dont like how I've been done.  I signed up for the PRO + package, PAID for the PRO + package, EXPECTED good performance 1.5-1.6mbps, and I got it (for a short period of time [30 days].  Now, I'm into this ridicolous mess of fighting with you only trying to GET what I'm PAYING for.  If you were in my shoes, wouldn't that be what you wanted.

Its like bait and switch.  Give ya "full speed ahead, engage", and then after you feel like you've "got me". you can provide me with any level of service, and somehow manage to get away with it.  That's not the way business enterprise works.  its simply not an ethical way to do business.

Am I mad? Perhaps a little?  Overall your service "gets me where I want to go, and helps me get done what I need to".....But then, there is the value versus $.  I'm paying EXTRA for the PRO + package, but not getting the benefits of it . . Sounds fair doesn't it?

Do I want to cancel?  Not necessarily.. but what I WOULD like is a truthful explanation of what is happening and WHY this is a regular practice of hughes... Remember this is my SECOND account.  The SAME SERIES of events has happened TWICE, says time frame. I'll probably never get an explanation, and like I said NETWORK OPS (NOCC) will never admit that they are having any effect on any of this.

What do I want?  I want a service where I feel what I'm getting what I pay for.  I'm not a speed demon.  however, I know when my system isn't performing like 'IT USED TO:, and daily for that matter. Again, VALUE in a service.  $90 for the **CURRENT LEVEL*** of service isn't. I'm not performing any more speed tests.  Documentation is captured in emails, phone calls, and history tests available online at your "performance tests".

What do YOU at Hughes feel is fair?  You can ask William in ECC.  That poor guy tried, and is probably screaming now that he's been given this case back to him (in case that happens).

Well, i've said enough at this point. Tech support is supposed to call tonight (only to have me run more speed tests again)......

Lets hear from you hughes! I need to know what you intend to offer as a possible resolution before this journey becomes to long.

I'd like to have an answer from someone before March 24, 2009!  William, if you get handed this again, I'm sorry buddy.

  5. ACTUALLY, I had NO complaints about HughesNet during the first 30 days.  Speeds were great 24/7.

However, after 30 days, you're out of your "satisfaction/cancellation period".......then Hughes can pretty well put

you on whatever doman they want.

They'll make all kinds of excuses, including reading scripts from their computer every time you call..

If you finally complain enough that you reach ECC, then they might compensate you some $$$ and beg you to stay,

but ECC people aren't technically inclined, so they just tell you to "accept the system WITH ITS FLAWS or cancel"...

At least they admit its flawwed!  :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

  6. another intriguing question is why on a NEW HUGHESNET install you're on the

    direcway.com domain (gateway)?

and then after 30 days (and things start to slow down)...

    you're on the direcpc.com  domain?

anyone know for sure the differences?

Those are very intriguing questions for sure.  :book1:

  7. Well, remember, just last week I was bragging about how I was getting 100% of my plans speed.....

Of course, I was in my SECOND time with Hughes, but I was still within my 30 day install date (the point at where you CAN cancel).

Of course, Hughes is going to try to fool new users to think they're going to get those speeds ALL the time.  Day 31, you're lucky to get 300K (which I'm getting now).

I'm still wondering why I was dumped off on direcpc.com domain.  I had always been on direcway.com.

I'm thinking direcpc.com is the gateway/domain they throw you over on after they "got ya"......

That's ok,  I'll just bug the hell out of William in ECC again.  I already warned him! HAHA

  8. Well, the first time it happened, I just listened to all the excuses Tech Support gave me (although I knew what they were doing).

BUT, this is the second time around. As helpful as ECC was, they're not tech people (they're there just to resolve issues and resolve people's confidence in their service) .  They were just tired of constant

    complaints about the issues.

So, new install, new equipment.  Perfect service for the first 30 days.  Paid the second bill, now in a contract, things are doing downhill quick!

Its ok though, I know everyone in ECC and have their phone number (as well as Tier-4), so I guess its another endless

    cycle . . .

  9. You must have spoken with Advanced Technical Support and have a different number than 1-866-347-3292, That goes to India.

Also, the NOCC is in Florida (which is Level 4).

And you'd would have had to talk to ECC to get ANYTHING free out of Hughes . . . . .

P.S.  This is my second shot at Hughes, so I've already experienced every level of support they offer.

My old account was plaged with billing issues and speed problems.  the only reason I tried a new install and new account was to see if history repeated itself.  Unfortunately, its starting to go downhill fast . . .

 I should also say when I call Tec Support it is in Woodstock New Brunswick--not offshore, very good people to deal with :smitten: :

  10. That's basically the theory.  We're still on the SPACEWAY satellite if you have a HN9000, but just off to a different server perhaps.  I haven't been able to find anything stating the difference between direcway.com and direcpc.com, but my speeds

    definately are in the dump..

Yeah, everything nice and fast during your FIRST 30 days (at which you can cancel)...Then BOOM, day 32, and after you've

    paid your second bill, WHAMMY.

Interesting though, the only way I seen the domain/host change was looking at my speed test history.

Another theory is that the modem contains "throttling software", otherwise called flow control that automatically throttles you speed between 4pm and 12am.  MANY other people are complaining about the same thing.(lots of logs on dslreports.com)

I guess I'll complain about it until I reach Executive Customer Care...... GRRRRRRR

  11. Anyone on Hughesnet with the HN9000 modem notice that they were switched from

    host/domain    direcway.com      TO a much slower    direcpc.com ? ? ? ? ?

This happens approx 30 days after you signed up (32 days here....after i'm in a contract).....

If you're a MEMBER and log your tests, check your speed history and see what date your host changed.

  12. Unfortunately, if you're in TN, and you're on the overcrowded beams that serve us, you're speeds are probably going to never improve over what they are now.

If you're not under contract, i'd cancel !    If you ARE under contract, fight it.  There is a wealth of information of numbers to call and email addresses to write here.

I can definately understand why all the Wildblue dishes along the long stretch of road I live on suddenly appeared as Hughes dishes.

Who knows, Hughes will eventually turn to crap as they rapidly add new users.

A friend of mine's account was DSS800XXXX, and mine is DSS825XXXX....... That's a heck of alot of users added in 5 months. (not sure how the account numbers increment).

I simply just state HughesNet as good for the moment because it meets my needs at the present.

  13. 192.168.0.1 wont tell you WHAT satellite you're on.....If you're using the HN9000, there is only ONE satellite you COULD be on (spaceway3).

However, it will tell you down download and upload cells you are on.

    Uplink Cell 41

    Downlink Microcell 355

    Uplink Polarization RHCP

And with the free modem comes a 18 month contract(As far as I have read). Otherwise no contract with paying for the modem.

The HN9000 is a KA band on it's own dedicated satellite at 95west(and different equipment than the KU's).

I can't remember if the bad satellite number position was 93 west that had the power problem.

This looks like the proper map for some Ku(etc.)satellites. Hover over the spot to see it's name. Someone, somewhere has probably compiled a list of defective satellites.

    http://www.intelsat.com/flash/coverage-maps/covmaphome.htm

Your control center should say what satellite and transponder you are on, so you can check out it's status in other places.

    Control center address   192.168.0.1

    http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/america.html

They keep changing the names of the satellites, but positions are always the same.

  14. Good to know someone else in TENNESSEE that's got HughesNET is happy with it.

All the people that had WILDBLUE up and down the road I live on, suddenly have HUGHESNET dishes.  I guess they got so sick of wildblue they changed.

I am not sure they are all on Spaceway3 using the HN9000 though.  The dish looks the same but the LNB (transmitter) is a big bigger on the HN9000.

He has been on Hughsnet for about 4-5 months.  He has been very happy with his service.  He tested with me last night at the exact same time and he blew me out of the water and he has the base package on Hughsnet I have the middle package on Wildblue..   He is  45 miles wsw of Nashville in Hickman Co.  They installed the new modem and he is on spaceway3.  SO if this states anything to Wildblue,  they just don't care..  I would like to know what speeds someone runs on Wildblue/dish say in Co, or Tx, or Oh, or say anyother state.  Lets here from you, please.....  :knuppel2::police:

  15. Curious, you said your son was on Hughesnet.   What area?   How long has he been using the HN9000?

Here it is a Sunday night on slow ass Wildblue  Download 278Kbps and upload 107Kbps.   I guess WildBlue loves to screw ya and keep going.  My son is on Hughsnet on the Spaceway 3 with the new modem and he LOVES it......SOMEONE NEEDS TO STOP WILDBLUE,  THIS IS ACTUALL HIGHWAY ROBBERY.... :knuppel2::tickedoff::evil6:

  16. You would have to get a NEW dish and NEW modem and NEW install BECAUSE the HN9000 systems point to

a totally different satellite. the modem is different, and the dish is more elliptical. The satellite Spaceway 3 is at 95W....

The 9000 Dish requires a more detailed antenna pointing, and can only be registered when a DAPT tool is attached

    and antenna pointing is authenticated.

I was told I could stay on the Home plan with the 9000 modem for the same $62.99 per month. It would cost me $199.99 for a new dish, new modem, and installation, plus a 24 month commitment.  I am not sure why I need them to install the stuff as I can unbolt and rebolt the dish, and it is marked ont he pole where everythign goes, and I can install the modem also.

I was also told I could get a HN7000s modem installed for $125 installed and use the same dish I currently have.

I was told the 6000 modem has download of 500 kbs and upload of 50 kbs.  I was told the 9000 has download of 1 mbs and 128kbs upload.  My test speeds from this site are below.

Again, we have been satisfied with Hughesnet so far since we got the system moved and reinstalled.  It works whenever we want to use it.  Another factor in this is I am in Suriname, South America so my family is using the PC at home in Albuquerque.  We use Yahoo messenger and a Logitech webcam with a microphone to stay in touch, along with using cell phones.  We do not have the DSL option in Albuquerque, and for sure not here in this country.  We are nestled in the foothills above Albuquerque so I doubt EVDO is an option for us, especially with me gone and having my wife try to do something new with the PC.

What do you think? Should I upgrade to the 7000 or the 9000 or stick with the 6000?

  18. Most of the people on HUGHESNET that are having the major complaints are using the 6000 or 7000 modems that

    are on the older satellites.

I have read only a small number of complaints from people on the HN9000 and Spaceway3.  It doesn't have the conjestion

and overcrowdness that the other satellites have.

So far, i've had good luck with the HN9000.  I am getting about 90% of my plans speed.  I am on the PRO PLUS Pkg.

I've only had to call tech support once so far (and yes, its in India, so you might have to call more than once to get someone

you can understand.....Billing support is in the Phillipines).

The HN9000 was never offered.  I just got something in the mail from them saying I can upgrade to the HN7000S for free and that it is a better and more secure modem.  After I upgraded the modem it wouldn't work at all, so they put me on another transponder and I have been regretting it ever since.  The transponder they put me on has, at max, a signal strength of 78.  That was the best one they could find.  When I had the DW7000 it was 66, max, but at least it was consistent with the speed.  I have the pro plan...does the HN9000 work with that?

Also, as usual, this morning I tested the download and I was getting 452, tested it a half hour ago and it's 1475, then I tested it 15 minutes ago and it's down to 800.  It just all over the place.  At least with the DW7000 I was getting at least 1000 consistently.  I tell ya, when and if DSL finally gets here (I am in the boonies and more than 5 miles from the substation), or if I move and have cable or DSL available at the new place, I am just going to use Hughesnet here till they shut it off from me not paying and I will never, EVER pay them the two months that I would owe them, nor the termination fee.  I really hate Hughesnet and have been rubbed the wrong way by them...can you tell?  In my 37 years, they are the absolute worst company I have ever dealt with.

  19. I'm on a NEW install using the HN9000 modem on Spaceway 3.

My signal strength usually stays around 170-180, and my downloads are pretty consistent within 1.5mbps.

PEAK TIME doesn't seem to affect me (YET).

So far, I'm pretty happy with no complaints.

If you had the 6000 or 7000, you may or may not could upgrade to the 9000 as it points to a totally different satellite and perhaps line of

    sight was an issue previously???

  20. you're still on one of the OLD satellites that HUGHESNET uses.  If you are using a 7000 modem.

All new installs are done using the HN9000 modem (white), and pointed towards the Spaceway3 Satellite.

If your line of sight probibited you from getting a good signal, then installers use the HN7000 modem using another satellite.

If a tech told you other customers were getting ULTRA HIGH BANDWIDTH, perhaps he meant you were on Spaceway3 using an HN9000.

I am on the PRO plus plan and getting 1.5mbps 24 hours 7 days a week (so far).  I do not seem to be affected by 'peak" time as far as speeds.

Someone suggested that after your 30 day trial period is up, the HNS NOCC downloads software in your modem to throttle downloads between 4pm and midnight.

Haven't confirmed this yet, as it has not affected me yet.

Is there any reason that you weren't allowed to upgrade to an HN9000 and get moved to the Spaceway 3 satellite?

Another member suggested that you might be under the "FAP" restriction.  In the HN 9000 modem you can type  192.168.0.1 and if your indicator light is AMBER, you're in

    fap, otherwise its green . . .

i used to have WildBlue and i requested help on here before. recently, i moved and switched to HughesNET and for the first few weeks it worked great. BUT, for the past 2 - 2 1/2 weeks, my speeds have sucked really bad. what i mean is everything starts out okay in the morning and then BAM... at about 2 in the afternoon my speeds drop very hard and stay slow until just about 3 am which is when the "free" period begins (from 3-6am). i have the Pro package at 1Mbps (128kB/s) 256Kbps (i think around 30kB/s). during these slow times in the day, instead of being able to surf real quick and download at 130kB/s, i get about 16kB/s MAX and surf speeds are like dialup. i have called support several times and had no help other than that same ol' "well sir, HN has one ultra-high speed bandwidth that all our customers share who are on that satellite, so during the peak hours and afternoon you may experience a slight decrease in speed as there may be high traffic." well i understand that, but for weeks it was fine and speeds were consistant throughout the day everyday. it is most frustrating when you pay $70 a month for "High-Speed" internet and get dialup speeds most of the day.

now i have read other posts about clearing out spyware and such, defragging, and resetting the modem. i have done it all and it has no impact. plus, it happens on all other computers i try with.

also, does anyone else with the same package as i find the FAP very easy to break and EXTREMELY slow when capped? it says on their site that you may notice a decrease in overall download speed and in some cases, a slight degredation in browsing speeds. well that does not cover it...my browsing speed when capped is unbelievably slow, most often 1-2min load time in a full page, and a d/l speed of about 0.9 - 2kB/s. and most downloads larger than 200kb with fail before they finish.

like i said, i have the:

    Pro Package 1Mbps (128kB/s) 256Kbps (i think around 30kB/s)

    HN7000S Modem

    thankyou in advance!

  21. Oh, I thought you were trying to get OUT of your contract.........Heck, with the service you are receiving, I would have cancelled already.

I had only ventured into ONE MONTH of Wildblue before I cancelled.  And I would have never gotten ANY response from corporate had I not filed a complaint with the BBB....

Yes, I am on HUGHESNET, and I have not had any problems with them the 6 months I've had it (knock on wood).

I hate paying $90 a month, but its better than paying for another phone line and dialup!

I am on the PRO PLUS lease plan.  1.6Mbps  425MB daily download limit (FREE dowloads between 2am and 7am)

I use a download manager and download the crap outta stuff while I'm asleep!
