most webhosts have a instant installer, and they have many premade scripts and all you do is pick one and install it, so you really don't have to do very much. its very easy.
Welcome to the forum tusharjalan
first off, do a speed test with a larger test file http://www.testmy.net/tools/test/d_load.php?ni=1&tt=1&s=2992&st=st&ta=&top=
and have you done spyware/virus scans?
usually the one that is included with what ever host you go with is the best. and it will work the best. Personally Ive never used one because i code all my sites myself.
just because its a 478 socket doesn't mean that it will work, the chipset has to recognize the processor, if its a older 478 chipset then it will not work with a prescott processor.
have you tried both server 1 and 2
Server1:
http://www.testmy.net/o-000
Server2:
http://www.testmy.net/o-000-2
if so try a mirror server

jhop1238 welcome to the forum
who is your ISP? what is your advertised speed? and have you cleared your cookies, cache temp. internet files, scanned for spyware ad aware etc.
richcornucopia personally i use windows media player, and i rip all my music using the wma lossless codac, it give me large files, but the sound just like they are on the CD.
S7R1D3R the number of services running on your computer wont matter, because in your case, the distance factor is all that is holding you back. if you were closer to the CO then your speeds would be faster.
animex like resopalrabotnick said dsl is usually capped at what your advertised speed is, in your case 256kbps, so no amount of tweaking is going to make that connection go any faster. your at your max.
