  1. speed does matter right up to the point where you are faster than the sites you are tring to access if the server you are requesting is sitting on a 2 meg upstrem connection and you have a six meg down stream connection at what speed will the page open? do the math
  2. another thought you said you are using XP do you have system restore turned on? I have seen more than one virus hide in the system restore and when you reboot it just inserts it self right back again you could turn it off you will lose your restore points but thats better than a reload and yup I would also try running in safemode like peepnklown said

  4. trendmicro.coms Housecall has helped me a couple time I use norton also and yup it misses things all the time, and trend micro saves the day another good program for finding spyware and spybots is Ad-aware6 from lavasoft which can be found at www.lavasoft.com spybot also works well but use it with care because I have seen a couple people remove the wrong things and that can open another can of worms but spybot does kickass.
  5. I here you about comcast I have never personaly used it but my son was living in SC. and was up north MN. visiting and while here he was using my home network system and when he went back he couldnt get comcast to work on his laptop so he put in a service call the tech that came to fix it was having trouble also so my son called to see if I had set anything that would cause a problem with comcast all I did was add a firewall and a couple other thing to increase security for him. So the tech was tring to tell him that his laptop was locked down to tight (to secure) ya right anyway it seems that the idiot tech removed the hard set IP.subnet and gateway but not the dns #s daa makes you wonder where there techs are trained must be like a 3 day class and he missed the day they talked about network settings
  6. Cool 7000 members I remember when I found this site less than a year ago most of the time there where less than a 100 people here testing at any given time and I see now as we speak at midnight central standard time there are over 230 guests and 25 members here
  7. Peice of cake if you are running XP you already have 2 nics just go into your network connections and bridge the connection ok now you have a in coming connection for your internet and a out going connection to serve internet to another machine if you want to run 3,4.5...ect machines off it add a router to the out bound nic card as for controlling each machine as to how much of your incoming pipe you want them to have visit http://www.bandwidthcontroller.com/ for a real nice peice of software that will allow you to set speeds by a number of rules TCP UDP...ect. You will have to hard set your IP, Subnet, & Gateway on the machines you want to control but it works great I run a wireless ISP and compared to the $2000 bandwidth controller sys. you can buy there software for $50. plus you can try it for free for 30 days any question I might be able to help you with I would be glad to just email me at [email protected] just put something like (question about bandwidth controller in the subject line so I dont delete by mistake good luck and I hope this helps you out
