Euskir, those pings are high and the trace is bad. If you have a router, then try bypassing it and running another traceroute. Otherwise, try powercycling your network by leaving your devices powered off for a while. What is the topography of your network (ie. how is it set up)? It may be as simple as a bad cable causing this, but it could also be bad hardware or network congestion. Since the first 3 hops timeout it's hard to tell, but you'll notice the spike in times at hop 7. That's a telltale sign that there is a network (seabone.net) undergoing some maintenance and is balancing an abnormally high amount of the load onto the network we are seeing in the trace. This type of thing will usually clear up in a few days. Keep an eye on your traceroutes to see for sure. Otherwise, I'd call up your ISP. <hr> Welcome to the forum, machine. We like to keep things as on topic as possible on this board. If you have concerns about your speeds, please start a new topic and we'll be happy to help you.

You can connect another PC directly to that modem, but it is important to reset the modem also. Try unplugging the power source for about 45 secs. Some models also have a reset button (like a pinhole) that you would need to use while the power is disconnected. Check this out for further help: http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-6025

You can also try some of the mirrors here: http://www.testmy.net/tools/mirrors.php Maybe you will find a closer test site. -
There are many things which can affect a wireless signal. Building supplies (Lumber, drywall, etc), water, people, electrical appliances, cordless phones.....the list is quite extensive. There's nothing you can do about the fact that these things cause interference, but you can optimize the route of the wireless signal, meaning have a clear path between computer and router. Do you know what % signal strength you are getting on the computer your are testing? Have you tried updating the drivers for your wireless adapter from the vendor's website? Are you able to wire into the router, and are the download speeds any better? Can you provide a traceroute? Another thing to keep in mind is to place your router so that it is not close (within 6 ft. optimally) to any other electrical devices. This reduces EMI, which causes attenuation and disruption in the signal.

Jibril you should have no problems getting that up near 8 Mbps. Check out the link that j3grizz posted above, and let us know if you have any questions. I'm sure you will be much more satisfied when you are getting your advertised speeds.

Hey tonyslaughter. First of all, it is important to understand that you should not use both Optimizer and Cablenut. I can help you with cablenut, so this is what I would suggest. First clear all values in Optimizer, save and reboot. Then open the file in the zip I have attached, save to registry and reboot. Have you run ccleaner? Tried the scan at www.ewido.net ? Your trace looks good. It is most likely that software running on your PC is slowing you down. Things that can do this are: firewall, antivirus, antispyware, browser extensions/toolbars, popup blockers. My suggestion is to shut all these down while you are testing. Also, have you tried testing from a mirror closer to you? As it was suggested above, testing with a larger file increases accuracy on a connection such as yours. Hope this helps some. Holla back with questions.

Hmmm....doesn't really make sense. LOL. Oh well, if it works, who cares! Last thing you wanna do is call up your ISP and say "Hey, am I supposed to have 2 IPs?" That's when they'll take it away, and then back-charge you.
-
Do you need 2 unique IP addresses? If so, call up your ISP to get your modem provisioned for 2 IPs. Otherwise, do either of the PC's have 2 NICs? If not, can you connect your modem via USB? I believe you can bridge USB to NIC. This article may help: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/j_helmig/wxpbrdge.htm

9/11: Revealing the Truth, Reclaiming Our Future

I believe there are opinions list that: a) The attack had been provoked by the actions of the government. Bush had been adequately warned about a pre-emptive attack. c) Bush did not take adequate steps to prevent the attack, or to minimize its potential effects. Bush wasn't the one flying the plane, nor was he the one the terrorist answered to, but some opinions state that he is indirectly responsible for the attacks, and the scale at which they hit. However, the leader of a country will always be the one to take the blame for a screw-up. He can try to point the finger at others under him, but it was him who was in power at the time. You can't get away with playing dumb (at least, not for very long....ppl tend to catch on). What you can do is ask yourself: Is this the best person we can put forth to lead this country? Whether Bush is guilty of this or that, we'll probably never know in full truth in our lifetimes. But I trust that there is one Judge of mankind, and He knows the truth of all things. -
I don't mind the ads here. Like others have said, they don't really bother me. For the most part, I don't even notice them. There is nothing worse than smiley ads, or those strangely tempting dating service scams. But damn, Ca3le, the no-ad version of TMN looks hella sharp!

euskir, can you provide a ping and traceroute to Testmy.net? Open your harddrive --> Applications folder --> Utilities folder --> Network Utility You will see both ping and traceroute tabs here. You will be able to copy the results. Post them here.

The Google web accelerator does not accurately portray the true speed of your connection. If you want to know your true speed, you will have to disable the accelerator for the speed test.
