  1. Talk about rehashing the past. Anyway, it's way off topic. Sort it out via PM if you must, but spare us the drama.
  2. I wonder how long that took to make.
  3. jdandco, the results are do to software on your PC. Could be anything really. As an alternative, try the test as laid out here: http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-12193 Post back results.
  4. AlmostHuman, before you install any software, I would run this online scan: www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan
  5. Hello and welcome, Ocean50. Speeds are looking good, you are reaching your caps nicely. You may be able to squeeze a bit more out of it, just check out the sticky on our Make It Faster board: http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-2097
  6. Oh come on, my grandmother could have kicked that guys ass!
  7. I would agree with Swimmer that it is most likely a spyware infection. Try this online scan: www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan
  8. No problems.

  10. That's looking better, 1st hop is still a bit high though. Have you tried a different ethernet cable? Otherwise, It may be in your interest to get a PCI NIC before you see that resolved, if you're really worried about it. It could be that your onboard NIC gets hot when your computer is running for a while. Try turning off your computer for an hour or so, then try another speedtest and traceroute. Other factors that could cause this are electromagnetic interferences from other devices in your home. Basically anything that is electrical emits a field of energy that can affect how other devices within the vicinity operate. Try separating your cable modem from any other electrical devices by about 3-6 feet if possible, and see if the 1st hop of your trace is any better after that. Otherwise, software and running processes on your PC can cause your speedtest to be lower. Try eliminating startup processes that you don't need. Turn off your firewall, real-time protection, IM's, and any other downloads when you are performing a speed test to see best results. Also, play around with a few different cablenut settings, from VanBuren's custom files, and see what works best for you.
  11. Nothing that says Half Duplex? Then I'd just go 10baseT, yeah.
  12. Try forcing the duplex to 10/half. From device manager, right-click your NIC and select properties, go to the advanced tab, and set it accordingly there. Then reboot your PC, run another traceroute and another speedtest.
  13. The first hop is a bit high (should be <10). Are you using ethernet or USB? Power levels look ok...SNR is a bit low, but not critical. I like to see mine >39.
  14. Didn't think of that. Hey, maybe he means a port like a seaport. That would be pretty tough to make tho. I mean, I don't know, but I imagine it would be. A lot of digging and stuff... Or maybe he means port like the wine. I can't stand the stuff, too sweet, but I know ppl who like it. I would imagine that is much like making wine....picking the grapes, mashin em up, puttin it in a cask, lettin it sit for a bit... I guess we'll never know
  15. Have you gone through the sticky? http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-2097
  16. Call your ISP. Flashing power light is reserved for account/provisioning issues.
  17. Here is a site containing a list of HDD manufacturers and their disk utilities. Commonly called "Low-level format" but some call it "Zeroing" or "Zero filling." http://www.ariolic.com/activesmart/low-level-format.html May I ask why you are doing this? Or is it just for the sheer hell of it?
  18. Got a firewall running? Also try testing with a larger file.

It did previously, but right now it is hanging and not completing.
  20. Do you mean a physical connection port, like on a router? Or do you mean a logical port, like those used by the TCP/IP suite (ie. 25=SMTP, 53=DNS)? http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers
  21. Glad everybody is getting along now. Thank you to other members for stepping in in our (Mods) absence to try to keep this on task. Please keep in mind that this is a help forum, and that it is of the utmost importance that everyone is comfortable in posting here, whether they are new or tenured memebers. Thanks.

    ICONS GONE

I agree. Boot to safe mode by tapping F8 on startup, and run an Antivirus scan. If you don't have any, slap yourself, then try to boot into safe mode with networking and run an online scan, like www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan
  24. Although both ISPs may belong to the same company, they do have different networks. Plus, since cable is shared, the ISP puts the caps on the modems. This means that, whether the network is faster or not, the ISP determines whether they will raise the caps. Earthlink and RR may have different gameplans.
  25. How many devices did you have connected via USB when you took that screenshot of your device manager? wyantm06, i know you have RR...your cable modem should have come with USB drivers...are you able to install it via USB?
