  1. Cable & DSL 6000/768 from Van Buren's version 7 Yeah...but its so pretty.
  2. You have a timeout on the first hop to the router, which would indicate packet loss due to attenuation in the network cable you are using. When using as much cable as you are, it is advised that you go with high quality UTP. You might try STP (Shielded Twisted Pair) or even cat-5e or cat-6. The price tag is higher, but you will have better quality signal over a distance. One other thing to keep in mind is that EMI (electromagnetic interference) can be causing signal loss in the line. Be careful that you are not running your cable next to other electrical lines or devices. Also, be sure to keep your router a good distance from any electrical devices or appliances, including your cable modem.

  4. Here the difference between being informed and being involved is critical. This is a serious ethical issue that is highly controversial with no resolution in sight, so getting involved can prove a very large responsibility. If you want to get involved personally, power to you. Me, I like to be aware and informed, but since it is not on my doorstep, I will share my opinion, but I don't see the point of getting involved. Whole lotta headache, if you ask me. Cencorship will always be around. There's always somebody trying to keep you in the dark about some secret they have. But it's everywhere, hell I can't access 90% of the Internet from work cause they have it locked down. China is a huge country, and there is realistically no way to govern that many people without setting some rules in place. Those people choose to live where they are, and so they accept the laws of their country, just as you and I do.
  5. It's possibly the cable or router port, or it may be the router itself. Try another port, and since you are hardwired, you can turn off the wireless broadcas, MAC filtering, and DHCP and go ahead and set up a manual IP. It is also important to reset the router.
  6. Since you may have an infection, it may be helpful to run a scan from another source. Try this online scan: www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan But if you are clean, its most likely that the Norton's protection is just slowing you down. This happens because every piece of data that goes out from your PC has to pass through Norton's net, which takes time and thus slows you down. IMO you don't need that running, as long as you scan manually and be careful as to what emails you open and respond to.
  7. Have you tried setting the duplex for your NIC to 100/full?
  8. Can you provide a traceroute? From the command prompt: tracert testmy.net
  9. I've been playing around with Opera lately too.
  10. Since you've mentioned that rebooting the router resolves the connection, I'm tempted to say that the issue is with that device. Are you running a wireless connection? The best way to determine if the problem is with the modem or router, is to bypass the router for a day or two, and see if there is an improvement. If there is not, I would call your ISP and have them check the flap list of the modem. They should be able to see how well your modem is maintaining sync with the downstream. Just be sure to have not reset your modem for at least a day (resetting modem often resets the flap stats). Let us know.
  11. I always mail in the rebates. It's actually not that much work, and it's always cool when you get money back.
  12. Good to know. Thanks for the tip.

    IP address

If you are connected to a router, try bypassing it (connecting your PC directly into your modem). This will bypass the NAT and also get you a new IP address.
  14. Read here about factors affecting wireless signal: http://www.hyperlinktech.com/web/factors.php It's likely that you just need to optimize your WLAN.
  15. Try this reverse traceroute: http://www.newshosting.com/support/util/traceroute/
  16. What are your advertised speeds? Please provide a traceroute: tracert testmy.net
  17. Get the car, then learn. It might take you a day to get the hang of it. Cars are easy to drive standard, they're forgiving. I learned on an old pickup that was not forgiving, and it didn't take much time.
  18. Not a version of Windows per se, but Microsoft came out with another OS called BOB, back in '95. It was a total flop. http://toastytech.com/guis/bob.html
  19. When you do IPCONFIG you can find your default gateway. Try pinging that IP address a number of times like this: ping -n 30 (IP address of default gateway) Then post the statistics.
  20. My my, ambitous little ones, aren't we all? You can find everything you need here: [LINK] Just understand that you must sort through 99.99% crap before you find something useful. If you're hungry enough, you'll get fed. Here is the best place to educate yourself in order to brush up on your 1337 H4C|<3R S|<1llz: [LINK] (or so I've heard) But a word of advice: don't go jumping in over your head and do something stupid. There are a lot of programs out there that make you feel like you're doing a lot of bad, but really are just silliness. There are a lot of ppl out there who are a hell of a lot smarter than you, and some even more sadistic. Just remember boys and girls:
  21. I'm beginning to have my doubts.... scumbucketsex, try the line packet loss test HERE
  22. Cool, I'm out for a bit anyway. Good luck.
  23. Try this one. Download the attached file, and extract the 2 files to the same directory. Then run the batch file and post the log it creates. Have your firewall off during.
  24. Ah yes, PPPOE. Well, I don't know how to get around that. I still think you have a software issue. Try this online malware scan: www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan
  25. :haha: That's it! It's my civic duty to report you!
