Go to TestMy.net (homepage) and look under the database menu.  This option was disabled, I just enabled it for you.

Once you enter a name you'll get an invite link that you can use to add members to the group.  Your group stats are then saved to an entirely separate database used for results comparisons.

i would trust the results you get here. If you're getting vastly different results here on TestMy for different times of the day or from minute to minute, the problem could be the ISP, or it could be your equipment.

If you're using wireless, try plugging an Ethernet cable from your computer directly into the modem, and see if the results are more stable. If they are, it points to a wireless issue (router or your computer). Or a cabling issue between your router and the modem, or just the wireless distance from your computer to your wifi router.

If you want to find out some of the why different tests give such varying results, read all the tabs on this page:

Believe the results you see here on TestMy.

It's hard to say whether changing ISPs will improve your speed without knowing where the bottleneck is. But it sounds like Iprimus has some pretty slow equipment if their service can only guarantee you 1.5 Mbps

The automated testing is really good, and the accuracy is really good because it uses an averaged number for your speed results.

    HI SB805,

You may want to check with your landlord and see what kind of data subscription your room - line has. It could be the modem needing some firmware updates or a bad connection (cables, static interference) could cause a lot of connection drops. Your Apple Airport extreme is just a router that maximizes the network throughput, in other words it just adds additional resource bandwidth than normal wifi routers and also supports duplex connection (it can send and receive data packets at the same time). Regardless of the wifi router you are connecting, this would depend on the modem where data is sourced. You can always check on your modem's IP address and check its configuration for more details.

    Hope this helps!

The exact cause for my problems remains a mystery - but following my ISP (PlusNet in UK) having a network outage on Thursday, uploads seem to be working again at expected speeds. Presumably the network outage reset whatever device was causing the problem......

Go to the blue "Test Servers" link at the top right of the page. London is likely the closest to you. You can choose the Frankfurt server and see if that routing is faster or slower.

I think what sets this site apart is the capability for automated testing. Many of the problems i have faced so far were systems with multiple configuration flaws in them, and the only way to track those problems is with a good time-history of the speed. I managed to go up from ~5mbit to ~50 average, on a line that is supposed to support 120. I wouldn't have found many of the problems i did without that functionality.

Thanks. That makes sense. The exclusions that I listed were reasons given sounding more like the buck stops there. If I could read I could have found testmynet FAQs and found what I wanted: simply a straight answer. While it won't help with my ISP, it will explain to me the varying results and the conflicts between testing.
    Again thanks

Thank you.  I have long been annoyed at Disney for taking the "hero" of the story "Kaa's Hunting" and turning him into a sniveling villain in The Jungle Book movie.

Could be that your connection is causing the test to fail.

    https://testmy.net/stats/?&t=u&d=06092016&x=90&l=50&q=Jtemple

If you come back to your computer and the test has failed to progress it's usually an indication that your connection has dropped out.  During the test your connection died, causing it to fail.

The next version of the auto speed test will recover itself when this happens and log the event.  If your seeing this often then it's probably a good idea to follow up and see why it's happening.  To avoid it from affecting the tests as much you can lengthen the test time to over 1 hour.  Makes it less likely to occur.  If you're currently testing with a 5 minute interval and you're seeing that it's happening regularly, you can almost certainly ascertain that your connection is having frequent disconnects.

I can but dream of those kinds up upload speeds . . . . currently struggling to get that on downloads.  My biggest issue was getting my ISP to stop fobbing me off and have someone actually check - It took my progressing through 3 levels of complaints handling to actually get something done . . . . even then, that was only because of the escalating issue of noise on the phone line.  We currently still have the Internet via the phone cable suspended from the telephone pole on the footpath, with our country's 'dumbed-down' version of a National Broadband Network being just around the corner. (Australia) What was the problem with the phone line?  Cockatoos had been 'chomping' on the cable running from the pole to the house - If you've ever had one of these birds 'bite' your finger, you'd know the power in their beak, so who needs teeth!  Next stop will be convincing them that 12Mbps is not the speed I wish to 'settle for' . . . . not when I had been getting 15 - 17Mbps with the previous ISP.  To put that in perspective for those on super-fast Internet, the top speed to expect on our ADSL2+ is 22Mbps, hence 17Mbps was  supposedly considered 'good'.  Funny . . . .I didn't consider 77% was 'good' when at school . . . . and recent study fields had expectations of 80 or 90% for a passing grade. Why would 77% be acceptable for an Internet service?  . . .Let along the current 'best' coming in at under 55%.  (Still . . .I suppose it is way better than the 7% I was experiencing before . . . . when the Internet did actually deign to work that is!)  Would we happily pay the auto mechanic if our car was running at less than 80% of expectations?  Gee . . . .I'd expect over 90% !!

    Hi, I pay 10$ /month for unlimited download/upload, and I have an actual speed of 100/90 Mbits/s upload/download
This speed is sustained and has high quality and low latency all across the board.

Check this provider, RDS/RCS Romania - Only available there, of course, but puts to shame about 90% of the world

PS: After a double check, you can after all have 500 Mbps Download and 200Mbps Upload in a single pack, with an appropriate router that the Telco will provide, and all of that for 39 RON, which is about 10$
Here's the link, and I've lived there for a couple of years and never had (or heard of) any performance issues in internet access from anyone. Top quality service at a truly fair price.

Living in Rural area. Apparently different companies by areas they wish to service with high speed internet and such. All competitors are locked out. Test indicate my service is slower than 99% of the U.S. pop.! Knew it was bad, not that bad though. Modern, truly high speed internet stops 2 mikes from my address. Is there anyway to insist the market be opened to "ALL" providers? Let them compete?
At last address, about 10 miles from present, literally at foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, on edge of the G.W. National Forest. Last stop before boonies. Had high speed net, cable t.v. and phone service, Great!.  Move closer to town in adjoining county and we're back to hope n' pray service! Go Figure. Sad.  Thanks.
