  1. I ran the freeswitch package on PFsense for 2 years. Just recently put together a dedicated freeswitch server for the house & various other locations. I run 10 extensions out of it 3 of which are in the house. Good luck and Godspeed I hate the 2900's.
  2. If you happen to have a triple nic setup and opt1 is available that's the traditional spot to put it, and where I would put it if you don't have a need for another DMZ type zone, just remember to setup your firewall rules after you plug it in and wonder why you can't get any traffic from opt1 to any other interface Chris
  3. Create a vlan and use a device, PfSense is tits but I'm not a fan of it's wireless support been running it for 3 years now and have several boxes at businesses I support. on a dual core atom box it handles 100/100 fiber with no issue including open vpn connections tons of port forwarding/handling manual outbound nat etc. Great stuff.
  4. with about a second round trip time for packets, VOIP is going to be hit or miss, the only thing they can do is time delay things properly so you don't chop up.. you'll never be able to get rid of the lag.. Good luck, i'm guessing it's not going to be a happy ending trying to use VOIP over sat if you're used to regular landline connectivity.
  5. I don't have a 30/5 I have uncapped/1 the 1.5 up is $100 more per month, so I told them where to take it and keep it.. lol. The download is whatever the network will bear and my poor old surfboard modem will pass. I Pay $99/month for the uncapped /1 plan with 8 static IP's.. it's not bad, but there's 20/2 fiber 20 miles away for $65, but they charge $20/month for static IP's.. yuck!
  6. 30/1 is almost pulling it's weight.. 10. Sorry man, but you'll be at 50/20 or less no matter what software you put on your computer. Run a speedtest and see where you're at and post it up here.
  11. I've got a Onkyo TXNR905 HU with polk Monitor 70 L&R and a PSW10 sub. removed the rest of the speakers after i found that I didn't use the surround much besides the occasional little counter strike jaunt..
  12. nope the current core 2 quad setup i've got is on an intel board, love them. Dont' play games- just a lot of programming. The drawback to me was only 3 DIMM Slots...
  13. me too, was going to go for the 2.9ghz i7 but good lord the price is out of this world for such a small change... Curious to see how the tripple channel ram does as well.. Think I'll just keep my current card (8600GT 512mb) due to the lack of a workout it gets now as well as my drive setup. Looking at the intel board but i kind of wanted to do 12gb ram (2x6).. Might have to go with the asus board, but dang.. $280 bucks for a board is.. a lot.
  14. I will say it includes this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115202
  15. Still here, still enjoying Midco's service... I've got uncapped down 1meg up right now but have the packet shaper adjusted to only allow 12mbs in... Please be aware that "uncapping " is not necessarily legal, this site does not condone this action, nor discussions pertaining to the process. Thanks
  16. I came in to reply to the original topic, about being addicted to TMN, which I'm not, I just go in spurts of reading and replying when I have time between projects and builds... but I see we've moved on to cooler stuff like bug bombs I bug bomb the lake house every spring for spiders and Asian Beatles, those little *#%*#ers are good for soybeans but man do they stink!!
  17. I'll go with Swimmer here and say it's time to take your firewall solution a little more seriously and look at turning your routers in just strait AP's. Let PfSense handle the rest (or whichever you pick ) I'm a huge pf fan, and use it personally and professionally. I'm going to suggest not just captive portal, but blocking any and all traffic other than port 80, 25, and 110. That should give them web browsing, pop3 email, and outgoing SMTP for e-mail sending. That won't stop someone from using a p2p but it will limit the effectiveness of it. Then it's time to look at how many AP's you have vs rooms/possible connections etc. This is a decent sized project, and will require some planning to get it to work effectively and happily for all your hotel guests. We can perhaps help a bit, but we'd need more information: # of rooms (possible connections) Bandwidth you have (and can you upgrade if you need to?) services you want to allow (E-mail, web browsing, group printing, etc) there are lots of very bright people on here that know a lot more than just internet tweaking, and we're all here to help the best we can
  18. You're always going to see a slight speed drop across wifi, even with draft N at 300mbps I loose about 1mb of download off my normal wired score of 12, not sure the throughput issue but over sustained downloads the speed seems good (If I do a 100mb file It gets righto 11.6 or so..). It does sound like you're in need of some better equipment, check and see what your card supports and get a new router! If you've got the extra bank I'd just jump for a multiband (A/B/G/dN) now and have future upgrades covered. (most people laugh off A but it can be really useful in a crowded apartment building etc etc).
  19. Gotta love the Linux Network stack, getting exactly what my packetshaper is set to allow! :::.. testmy.net test results ..::: Download Connection is:: 12222 Kbps about 12.22 Mbps (tested with 12288 kB) Download Speed is:: 1492 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 909 Kbps about 0.9 Mbps (tested with 1496 kB) Upload Speed is:: 111 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Main) Test Time:: 2009/02/08 - 7:01pm D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-EK2FO64R8 U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-A8BHYMVOG User Agent:: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008121623 Ubuntu/8.10 (intrepid) Firefox/3.0.5 [!]
  20. I had been but it doesn't give back recs very happily.. the CPU client scales back so nicely with its' super low-priority mode.. I had been running 1 thread on each CPU and 1 on the GPU but I removed them a while back.. once the new setup is done I'll run F@H on it just to see how it can do..
  21. Theoretically, YES it will. If you're seeing sub-part performance from your current connection though, you could have a bottleneck in your networking, such as your router, wireless etc. What's your setup? We can try to help determine if you're getting the most out of your current connection or if they've got some issue with the lines/service.. EDIT: Should be more clear, can you run us through your network setup? IE DSL modem-> Netgear VRT2991 Router -> wired connection to computer 1/2/4 wirless to 2/5/9 etc etc?
  22. Don't do what was just suggested, you'll be double NAT'd. Just go down to best buy and purchase a switch and plug one port into the switch from the verzion router, then plug whatever you'd like into the switch. if you are determined to use the router, turn off DHCP, turn off ALL routing, and plug the verizion router into a LAN port, then plug everything into the LAN ports, NOT the WAN. chris
  23. This is a good suggestion, also wire your computer to the router or directly to the modem and test, start eliminating things so you know it's the ISP's problem.
  24. Oh Geeze.. I better just say that my Core7 box is going to win this fight.. :2funny:
