If you tell me what router you have, I should be able to find more info about it, and the setting , if you wish....
-
You could allow SNMP to run on your router, which will listen for a program that is trying to open a certain port, or a group of ports, and open them for it.

Anything to get a dig in on a mac, even though you know nothing about them , whatso ever. Probably never touched one, hell, I bet you may have never seen one in real life. But you stick that dig in there , even though it means nothing as far as the thread or the posts before t.

Either a firewall and or the proper port isn't open, or forwarded properly.

I ran a telnet from the mac into there netgear router, and found a something, I dunno what it is, but it's not an ordinary config, at least that i know of. It looks like some sort of vpn , but it's defiantly not something these people have anything to do with. So I would have to say this is an infected router, I'm going to save the config file when i get back out there tomorrow or the next day. (I should have exported it today ) . None the less, they had a modem from 2003 , obviously not updated by the ISP (TWC) I made a quick call to the ISP, telling them my thoughts that this modem's mac address was part of a botnet, I get home to read this, which would explain the config in the router. Thanks zalternate. I'll re flash the firmware when i get back out there , after the new modem has been installed .

Guy's check this out, the system Iv'e been talking about was working fine at my place, as soon as I connected it to there network, and there in the middle of no where, IE * was turned back into IE6, and many of the same issues that it had before, are back, like the popups that say something like, "the key was not found in the access to access the access key, " or something like this !! WTF ? Is the modem maybe part of a botnet ? Iv'e not sen this before !!!!!!

Now thats what I'm talkin about

Sure, but thats 30 days, then your done, unless you uninstall, and reinstall every month. Myself, i wouldn't want all those registry turds from the installs/uninstalls laying all over the place. I dunno what this has to do with it though, I must have missed something.

Just an update, I removed enough of the bad guy's to be able to save the many files the owner needed to run there business as they needed to. This one was a challenge, Seems there was "something" and I say something because I never did get rid of everything, just enough for the system to allow me to save / backup to a new server for them. As for MSSE, I dunno, the jury is left to you guy's, because AVG and MSSE didn't catch anything, NOD32 was the only program made for antivirus that caught 12, or 11, I dunno, it's in the screenie, thus with spybot removing some 309 turds. As far as I am concerned, Microsoft Security Essentials has a long way to go before it gains my trust. We are all aware, at least I hope we all are, that any free version of anything, could be considered nothing more then sub par. You have to think as to why they re free. I used to think they were free because they were trying to gain respect through volume. I now feel that they are nothing more then test tube babies for the real thing. Wandering in the wild gathering data to be fully implemented in the paid versions. I make this claim because I have had paid versions for AVG, and to tell it like it is, the free version is like someone handing you the yellow wrapper of the thousand dollar bunch of 100 dollar bills, and keeping the money for themselves. In other words , the two don't compare. Maybe keep this in mind while your so sure programs such as we all use , and "trust" are sitting inside our machines doing whatever it is they do. I'de still like to hear other peoples experiences with Microsoft's new security "essentials ".

Seriously, I think you should be good to go, unless of course you know you should be getting much more on the upload, with what you have, thats actually above the average for almost any ISP, or right there with it all. !

I had to install nod32 from a disk, and here is the output, you decide. There is also a warning that there is "something" running in memory that will be removed during the restart. Notice the difference in files scanned.
-
Entirely possible. In fact, it's interesting you just said that, because I'm at a point where I'm attempting to install another antivirus, namely AVG free, it took several hours, and some trickers to get the download itself, at this point, the un named, will not allow it's installation. Edit, ~ running "sfc /scannow " see what I can change back to what it should be.

I'll be shocked if this actually uploads..............

No, it found NOTHING !!!1 I tried to post a screen shot of the results, but there's just too much going on in there to allow that. I'll try again before I zap the thing. I could move the pic somewhere else on the network to post it, but I'm going to create another vlan in the morning to disassociate it from the rest of the network first. I dunno what all is in there, but it's got to be the most infectious machine ever. Oh yea, for proof, I will also have the other programs that show some of the many virus's that are on there.
-
It is going to be interesting, because i have this machine in here for no other reason then over 900 virus's have been detected, and 309 spyware / malware (whatever traking cookies ect... have been detected. The full scan has been running as of right now for 1:15:59 , almost complete. There are verifiable turds all over the thing, by me ! I get page redirects when trying to access the internet on FF, and IE will not do anything other then start. The system won't allow me to even download AVG free, never seen it. This is by far, the worst, most whatever infected system I have ever come across , so absolutely optimal time to test this new software. For those who want to know what happens when i click the cnet download button for AVG free, the system redirects to a spoof site that contains the words avgfree, and a couple other keys that randomly change AFTER the roughly "800 Kb" download. That system should be in Guiness for even starting !

Just installed it on a machine that I know has more virus's then Gates has employees, the initial "quick" scan, showed nothing, so now I'm doing the full scan. Lets see what it finds.

Iv'e got an unlimited plan from Alltel, and believe me, if there was a cap, they would have shut me down , a loong time ago. Hell, I set an HTC diamond touch for a world phone, so when in Aruba there's no extra charges, and I proved it several times now, no cap, and no limits. But thats just my plan.

I moved your topic to the smartbro area, you may e=want to search the topics while you wait for a reply from someone here that is more familiar with the way your network is accessed.

Right, but you have to realize that with that type of device, it pulls much less data, so it probably loads pretty darn fast. Well, considering anyhow.
-
goto start > then in the search box at the bottom, type "sidebar" without the quotes, and bam, there you go If this does nothing, or gives you an error that there needs to be a service running, post it , and someone will help you get it running again

You know what, this years sales are going to be crappy , the Christmas shoppers simply don't have it, well, they will surely be getting credit increases for the holiday season, so my thoughts are your gonna get real good deal on nice "stuff" the beginning of the new year. By then, the quirks should be worked out in 7.
