  1. Just out of curiosity , did you try installing an OS on it, and see if maybe windows found a partition ?
  2. I have been playing with the console versions for quite some time. If you download the right client for the proc, then the best you can get would be one of the beta high performance clients, that run SMP, which is a way to connect two or more cores to fold in unison. Servers are great, but the client is where the power is, if you have dual, or quad cores, then you can really kick out some math. I have found that the console version will blow the shit out of the .exe , I mean ten fold ( yea, pun intended lol ) you can set parameters in the console such as -forceasm , which will by default facilitate every one of those features in the proc that most people have no idea are even there. "MMC, SSE ect." On an AMD, you can use -forcesse Another one I use is the -local flag, supposedly this will bind the local IP to the server that hands out the WU's, there fore constantly talkng to the server in some way transferring data the core needs, instead of after the WU is done, it keeps tabs, and feeds what it needs, when it needs it ( those are in my words ) I'm sure there's more technical explanation, but that what I have. Of course you can set -smp , -verbosity 9 (anywhere from 1-9 , where 9 sends small portions of completed math back to the collection server when there done vs. caching them till the WU's done. You can run -advmethods which will send you the latest WU's that will give you man more points per WU. There's also a setting to run -big , which will send you really big, generally larger then 5 MB WU's , which you get more points per WU then the smaller ones, but it takes a little longer, but if you have the proc, set them all, you'll get around 1700 - 2000 PPD on most newer C2D procs.
  3. Lions and tigers and bears....... Lions and tigers and bears... :haha: :haha:
  4. Look out, I have a core 2 Duo running an SMP client ( on a macbook pro ), and another C2D E4600, it's not that bad ass of proc, but man, nestled down in that intel board, there made for each other, runs lightning fast ! This is the first time Iv'e had it folding, looking at the .txt showing the progress, it's keeping up w/ the mac, neck and neck as of right now. If this is the case, then I should be putting out at least 4000 points every 24 hours or so :grin2: :grin2:
  5. I thought all night about how I did it, and it's just not comming to me. If you've looked over the way acronis works, did you read wether or not it will mount on a cd, or does it run ( when in close drive mode, ) within an OS to do this. Anything like this would help me remember how. I know it took a while, and I remember seeing the progress on the screen,......you know what , I remember now, your not gonna like it, I was able to fix the MBR on the puked out drive, mount the OS, install acronis, then clone the drive to an external source. Try this, put the bad drive in, only that drive connected, now Im nt sure how you had the drive set up, ( is there an OS installed on it ) or was it simply formatted NTFS and used as straight data storage. Because there wont be a boot record if you did it this way. You should still be able to retrieve the data unless it's just fried. Man, I know that if you were able to connect the drive to a mac, that you could look around in there better then in a windows environment Finder is an amazing thing.
  6. It moves everyday, but I started back up again :evil6:
  7. I can't remember how I did it, the drive wouldn't boot, but I had a new drive in an external enclosure, and acronis cloned the non bootable drive to the new drive. Man, wasn't that long ago either, guess hittin 40 things start to fall out, can't remember everything. Did you get the trial ? Maybe just read it , and see what it says, and I'll try to remember, this bites
  8. I would download Acronis and clone the drive , I did this once not too long ago, and it worked. I understand the drive is just full of data you need , but it's worth the try, I think you will be able to clone the drive, then fix the MBR, and collect your data.
  9. I would place the drive in an external usb/ firewire whatever, enclosure, and see if you can access anything that way. If it spins, the data can be retrieved in one way or another. Unless it's totally corrupted, and or it's suffered G forces over whatever it says it can take, and the platter's been scratched by the pickups( or whatever there called )
  10. As far as I know yes, because from the way I understand it, the master Boot record flashed on the drive itself, so if it points to a specific sector on the HDD that isn't there, then the process stops right there.
  11. Whew ! 3 bucks for activation ? wtf ! the cost isnt that far out there, but the activation fee is through the roof plumb dumb !
  12. I don't mean to bud in, and I might not fully understand the situation, but from what I gather, the HDD spins, but you find nothing on the disk, but that could mean that the directory fubared, sometimes, you can clone the drive, "acronis" and from the new drive, use fixmbr, and it has been known to reset the file structure to readable. But like I said, I might not have fully read the thread enough o know if this is even the problem.
  13. Bet your right, those are some slick speeds
  14. Sorry this thread irritated you so much Roco, I'll let this go cause I don't see this going anywhere ,( nor do I understand why you worked yourself over ) , or what the kettle being black has anything to do with the question) or having anything to do with what the thread is about. The key was found in the woods nearby the office where the computer was stolen, on the side of the machine where someone dropped so many things , they must have been planning to come back and get it. But the question still remains, as to the exact whereabouts of the key (in any MS installation disk) . MS did say however that there was nothing wrong with me looking for it, they actually said something to the d=effect of, "good luck with that one " :haha: So my quest stil stands, when I get a few free minutes, I look around, see what I can see, but I haven't totally as I had thought earlier, proven thats something was the key because of the severity of the encryption.
  15. You'll have a better connection anyhow , no worries
  16. Jayzus ! Been a while since anyone had a connection like that !
  17. Probably because the client has been outdated for a long time, you'll need to update.
  18. Source Of course, the software was in fact leaked prior to this address, in a torrent, which can be found in different corners of the net. going by "beta build 10A314" . This on the toe of OSX 10.5.7 release.
  19. Be careful with that, you don't need to get into anything w/ legal issues because of it, you know ?
  20. Yea, thats one thing that you can do, you should be pulling in around 2000 points a day, at least. and the "big" WU's are worth more, also set "-advmethods" flag, there special WU's that bring in even more points.
  21. :haha: Yea, I'll get right on that one Man, I want to fire up the mac, but remember, I need to open it up, and re seat the CPU , re-greasing it, it gets way too hot, and they had an issue w/ over slopping the damn thermal grease on some of these things, I just havent had time, but I AM GOING THROUGH WITH IT ! mama would be really pissed, i said i was gonna document the whole thing, for a guide, and i will. edit..oh shit, there she is now * ducks -n- hides * * puts fingers over my own eye's and says " you can't see me now " *
  22. Maybe just let it go for a while, I'm sure you'll be kickin ass dude, there's no doubt Looks like I'm gonna have to fire them up again lol R ya ready ?
  23. Yep, I clone my Hdd's, Keep all documents on a local server, then back up the local server on a local FTP server sad, I know :haha: There's actually rarely nothing on my HDD, everything is somewhere else, there is right now, but I gotto clean it up.
