Two Computers, Same Network, Different D/L Speeds

Sure, I'm curious myself, thats a serious drop, it has to be something simple like that. I know you don't have a cable mismatch, right ? There's two different ways to wire cat5, sometimes from different companies they get wired differently. It doesn't always make a difference, but there are times when it does. I'm thinking "A" is the new standard. -

My first thought would be in the default BIOS settings would be the network adapter is set to half duplex mode, might want to look into that first. -

Well I always did enjoy a good conversation with myself hehe. Either way, for future reference, when setting up an FTP, don't, instead use sFTP, you have SSH , and it wont use HTTP, so no port 80, which is a happy thing. *cough cough -security- cough * anyhow using PASV mode to get through the porting issues, and compatibility issues with an older protocol and routing issues, make sure to port 1024-65535 ports within the PASV configuration, uhm you'll be able to do what I have been doing for years, access locally, but not remotely. If you wonder why such a port range, is due o how FTP works, the client sends the IP of course it must be authenticated, , the FTP server opens a dynamic port, then sends the client the server's IP to connect to and the port on which it is listening (you must have these set up before hand as well) over the control stream that the client started, and waits for a connection from the FTP client. Then, the client binds the source port of the connection to a dynamic port., but that port is randomized through all those suckers. Got it now? Those are the basics. The very basics, then you get into the server domain, users groups policies, home folders, directories, on and on, and of course the slew of server settings. So that was my problem

man, I thought maybe some of you were familiar w/ FTP / sftp. I'm having an issue with connecting externally to the sftp server, Iv'e never configured one for remote access. Ive done all the porting as I would for any server that needs to be accessed from remote sites, configured the domains, user accounts are all accessible from the LAN as they have been for some time. I have the dnydns name set, and is updated, and working. From within the LAN only. I get a 530 permission denied when trying to login to the server from a remote site. Iv'e been through this for three days now, gone over everything and my experience is exhausted , anyone ?

Hmph, try changing out the video card since that board has no on board video controler. But if it was used for gaming, and the northbridge fan was out, you might be out of luck . They usually wont get that hot unless pushed. afaik anyhow. Have you tried getting in the bios ?

Depends on how invasive you wanna get, are you into making the directories within the windows file structure yourself, or would you like to have the console do this for you. I can say if you do it yourself, it will take longer, if you do it w/ the console version from F@H, it's a snap ! Just goto the folding download page and download the console version. Let me know when you have it, I'll walk you through it real quick.
-
Oh yea ! You weren't using them before ? If not, your gonna flip when you see your production now
-
Yes, just download the program, then search for the ccs file that matches your connection, make sure to restart when you apply the settings. You may have to try several files before you find the one that works best.

So you want to speed up the processor? Was it something like overclocking ?

To make a new account, goto start > control panel > user accounts> then you'll se where it says " create a new account. You make then an administrator, or a restricted user. Then give them a password. As far as the "tweak guide " there's so many things to be done within the OS, that you'll need to be a bit more specific about what your interested in changing.

Just list them we'll pick the most commonly used ones then vote on them after that. Now I know that some of the browsers have them built in, but phooey on that, but if thats what works for you, by all means post it. Iv'e been using serv-u

The flags are set in the console just after you point to the folder f@h is in, say if it's user/documents/folding HERE <<<<<< just type them at the end. The -smp is VERY important, it's for multi core procs, you'll run twice as many WU's . Read this post, I gave a few flags there you can use. There a must if you want to get the most out of your folding proc.
-
I see the core your running is a recent one I also noticed you have a good size page file, sometimes that slows a machine down, how's that workin for you ? Anyhow are you running the "-smp "flag on those two cores ? And what if any flgs did you set ? I'm wondering how you installed F@H, manually ie: "MKDR " or did you configure it from within folding client. I'm only asking because I notice the way the threads were in the file structure. Either way, this is great Thanks for contributing, and in the name of testmy.net at that Thats a great system you have, you should be able to really push out some WU's.

I'm goin for 600,000 , it's taking me a while to get the clients configured just right, I haven't had anything folding as far as anything productive for months, there's a few that I had going that the clients have expired, but i'll be gettin that right quick. I know if I don't do something, that buntz is gonna kick my ass eeek

I wouldn't recommend it , if I wasn't sure about it. Other things you can do is to set internet explorer to empty temp internet files when you close internet explorer, and set the days to save pages to 1.
