mudmanc4 got a reaction from CA3LE in Auto test which queries each test server sequentially [or selection]
Thinking along the lines of testing various geographical locations automatically. Or, an auto test feature.
    With the default option to query each available test server;
    Or via test server selection.

@PacificAgRentals I'll take an educated guess and claim the test you link to is a flash based test, which by default in my opinion and experience is flawed from the start.
Secondly, the specific test linked, is likely hosted on xfinities top tier pipe. In other words, the test is likely running within the ISP's systems, a direct connection from you to them. And could also be running on a low traffic port such as 8080

Not a real world test, yet a simple test to prove the ISP is able to make a connection to your modem, and the boot file is supplying the throughput it is set to.

Testmy.net runs on port 80 (by default) , which is again , the default 'web port' or which is historically the edge port which all website traffic run on.
Different test servers can be used to analyze different location to / from the test point. ISP peering, or connectivity over and through backbones is organic, and natural. In other words, testmy.net will give you real world results as loading a webpage from any site in the location would.

Currently running the 2.3.3 dev version of pfsense.

I think it is pretty great. I love the new GUI, and yes the move to pkg was good too. Everything seems to be going in the right direction.

@Bunnie How do you see v2.3.x moving forward ?

I use pfSense in production as well as various home applications. Personally I appreciate the fact we have moved to pkg for updates, much more intuitive for keeping the entire system up to date on a regular basis.

The router as well as the modem would be considered hops, or devices the packet has to traverse.

If the antenna is aimed at the mountain... how does interference within your home cause issues?  What kind of proximity is the antenna to the A/C fan motor?  I think the only way it would make sense for your connection to have issues when the A/C is running is if a strong electromagnetic component of the unit were in fairly close proximity.  Those motors can definitely do that.  If that's the cause, relocate your antenna further away from the motor.  Even just an extra 5 feet away can make a big difference.

The Local Area Network, or LAN, can and will achieve 100MBps with cards as old as ~1990 give or take ten years depending on what card and network it is.

The Wide Area Network, or WAN, is what the ISP controls.

To visualize the idea, think of the WAN  as the jug of milk.
Now think of the opening of the jug of milk as the Network card in your machine in this instance.

Lots of milk in that jug, the size of the opening, where the 'cap' / bandwidth is, will determine at which the flow of milk runs from inside the jug, to the glass / LAN.

Just as; lots of available 'bandwidth' or available flow on the WAN, where settings or size of the 'cap' or capacity of flow in the network card to the local machine.

Where are you reading the 100MBps from? If it is hovering over an icon in the lower task bar in windows, that is the current maximum theoretical speed the Local network, or LAN can achieve from the hardware / software which controls it.

Where are you reading 'Not enough bandwidth' ?
And what are you attempting to do when seeing this message?

From here it looks as if the ISP is dynamically setting the addresses, and as the OP stated 'ran out of IP's' could mean someone is always getting bounced, as the TTL [ or lease time ] settings must be low.

This is also very common with many satellite and wireless ISP's

    Great explanation .

At times I'll use there service for a server as close to me as possible , so i can isolate the issue a bit more , true enough , thier closest server generally gives me very close results to yours here at tmn , imagine that.

edit: And that is a 1200 mile difference, let alone a non flash based test.

At the same token, testmy.net is a good tool for letting us know there are 'chinks in the chain'.

Check your in home splitters, make sure your pulling off the correct port. And that you have good, clean cables / cat5

Then I might start looking at what programs are running in the background on the machine, how much RAM is free, and what browser extensions are running, various items which might 'clog' up the system resources.

A good way to get an idea, would be to start the machine in safe mode with networking. Or better yet grab a live Debian cd / USB and start the machine this way. Run a few tests and see if there is any significant differences in results.

Hard to make it stand out more unless it was BOLD and italics also.

That would be my problem, not the program.

I believe the wording [in red] requires a bit of a tweak. As tests can be run 100 cycles (or times) at 15 minutes or more frequency, not less, if less, than 15 then a maximum of 50 tests will run. Either way the meaning is the same, however it can be a bit 'intriguing' at first.

    I understand.
All I can personally say until @CA3LE chimes in, is that if you choose every five minutes, the limit is 50 tests, anything below 30 minutes will be limited to 50 tests, as it states in red,  if you choose thirty minutes, then the limit is raised to one hundred tests. Throttling, considering the vast amount of users that can be testing at one time.

Go ahead and try the setting I suggest if you would not mind.

Kroger has me on their "filter this email to the trash" list for complaining too much about stuff they are either out of or quit carrying and replacing it with their own product. They no longer even acknowledge that I've sent them feedback. Maybe because once they were out of Mr. Mustard Hot. I complained about their having three shelves of Kroger mustard. I told them "No mustard eatin' man would use any of that Kroger mustard"..... That probably did it.

Thanks a million ! will go over your steps and check where they differed from the source I got from "Google" (just learnt that one from my daughter). At the end the result was 00:04:24.36, but don't know if that is good or bad.
Then tried an app "PC Benchmark", but again I'm unable to decipher the results as there is no comparison (I think) to what would a standard. Have attached (hopefully) this screen shot.
Thanks immensely for all your effort. It's been most appreciated. Didn't realize these forums could be so helpful!

Many HDD encryption software is used for offline encryption. In other words everything is 'encrypted' until powered on and the keys are used to decrypt data. Therefore protecting your personal data if in case the machine is lost or stolen.

I have found several occasions where an encrypted drive is somewhat suffering performance wise than before the software was placed, however not as significant as to cause severe crippling of browsing or downloading.

I would suggest the reason behind the near identical tests run at your ISP, is due to the test being served within their own network, more or less a direct line to your home. Which as a good first means in defining the quality of line from them to you. Such a test is not meant for real world testing. But for basic local line trouble shooting.

Of course the ISP cannot control the quality of service past their own network, however their choices or, available choices of peering partners can and does make every bit of a difference.

If your running a windows operating system, you should be able to run an overall performance test on the machine itself, from the machine. Doing this will give you a bland but general idea as to how the machine is performing in consideration with the security software you have chosen.

mudmanc4 got a reaction from Pgoodwin1 in testmy.net always 50% less on upload than everywhere else
What I can say about several other sites testing servers, some of them are located on the top tier 'channel' of the ISP's network, where little to no real world traffic moves through.

Top that with their default settings utilizing port 8080, which again, is not the default HTTP port, so very little to no traffic moves over those lines. Giving test results in this manner, in my opinion, is good for internal network throughput only. Not necessarily real world is it. As websites and CDN's are scattered all around the planet, not necessarily on the big pipe with little usage. Which of course by logic will give a more consistent reading, considering.
