  8. I agree..... Assuming it's an IDE H.D.D. this is what I found for jumper settings, notice there is a general pin setting and a 32GB. max setting. Hope that helps........
  9. Hello SOS1971..... Welcome to TMN. What brand H.D. ? Did it come with a utility disk ? If not, you should be able to download a utility from the manufacturers website, and use that to format with or without partitions to it's original size. Just remember you need SP1A or SP2 installed on WinXP to recognize the larger drive. If you want to use the new drive to run Windows from, you would want to make a partition like 50 Gig. or whatever up to 137 Gig. and install XP on that then put the SP1a or 2 patch, then you could format the D: drive from Windows and use that for all your files. Good luck.........MYRIAGON.

  11. With the PC off push and hold the DELETE key on keyboard and turn on PC while still holding DELETE. See if that brings the bios settings up. Might try removing CPU and reseat. Also if you can get make and model # of MB.
  12. That was weird..... When i would come to this post I showed a error on this page and din't think too much about it, what I didn't know was it was not showing all posts and I was trying to help out on a problem that was allready fixed. Sorry everyone........ Now that I see all the posts you might try uninstalling Vid drivers and reinstalling new ones. You may have to go to windows update also and reinstall updates. To find system32 folder you may have to explore Tools-Folder options- View and click show hidden files, and uncheck hide protected operating system files.
  13. I don't think it's a video problem, but you never know. Below I attached the COMMAND.com file, just download and unzip to WINDOWS/system32 folder (if it asks to overwrite existing file click"yes"), restart PC then try accessing regedit again. If that doesn't work, did you try downloading the program I put in my previous post ? If not download that and run it on your system and see if that helps. Good luck..........MYRIAGON.
  14. You might try pulling the video card out , then start PC see if that changes the beep code. Then shutdown and reseat the Vid card firmly and try to boot again.
  15. Zbojnik..... I had that happen to a PC I was working on a long time ago, it would not open "any" 16 bit programs. It took forever to find out that they had a bad COMMAND.COM file in the WIDOWS/SYSTEM32 folder try replacing that file with a fresh copy from the CD or from another XP computer and see if it helps. If all else fails you can try this program I found http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/16-bit-MS-DOS-Subsystem-Error-Quick-Fix.shtml Good luck.... Let us know if that worked for you. 18. I actually never have converted a drive from FAT32 to NTFS because I have read of people having a lot of problems afterwards, but you could try and see how it works for you. My personal choice would be / boot using the WinXP CD, delete all partitions, then set any partitions you want, then format to NTFS when proceding with XP setup, just remember, that will destroy all data on the whole disk and you will be starting from scratch. If you have XP on the laptop now, with FAT32 this is what you need to do to convert. To find out more information about Convert.exe 1. After completing Setup, click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER. 2. In the command window, type help convert and then press ENTER. Information about converting FAT volumes to NTFS is made available as shown below. To convert a volume to NTFS from the command prompt 1. Open Command Prompt. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt. 2. In the command prompt window, type: convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs For example, typing convert D: /fs:ntfs would format drive D: with the ntfs format. You can convert FAT or FAT32 volumes to NTFS with this command. Important Once you convert a drive or partition to NTFS, you cannot simply convert it back to FAT or FAT32. You will need to reformat the drive or partition which will erase all data, including programs and personal files, on the partition.
  19. Hi starship... You can partition FAT32 up to 2TB to use with WinXP, you just have to use the FDISK and Format tool on a Win98 bootdisk before starting WinXP setup. But I personally would use NTFS, It's much more efficient and secure than FAT32.
  20. Just wanted to open a can of worms... I wondered why I havn't heard too many people bragging on Firefox's security lately. Hey if you like firefox ......cool. Not me....Read below. http://www.technewsworld.com/story/50896.html
