amc11890 Posted February 12, 2006 CID Share Posted February 12, 2006 I had a similar problem before on one of my hard drive, i eneded up taking it in to get fixed and they had to low level format it. Im sure there is a utility out there that can do this for you, Low level formatting is not ur typical formatting method because it rewrites all of ur sectors
RAINMAKA Posted February 12, 2006 Author CID Share Posted February 12, 2006 hmmm i wonder if i will be able to do this after all
hurricane_floyd Posted February 12, 2006 CID Share Posted February 12, 2006 Get a zero-fill utility from the drive manufacturer website, or get DBAN (Dariks Boot And Nuke) and run a zerofill/quick wipe from it. I have squeezed extra life out of problem drives by using just a good ol zero-fill utility. Be aware that EVERYTHING stored on your drive will be ERASED. richcornucopia Posted February 12, 2006 CID Share Posted February 12, 2006 Is dban free? Maybe it could work for my drive.
RAINMAKA Posted February 12, 2006 Author CID Share Posted February 12, 2006 so just burn that DBAN to a cd and load it in my laptop? i hope that works because i cannot get anything to load it it

project51 Posted February 13, 2006 CID Share Posted February 13, 2006 I'm afraid, you need to buy a new harddisk. My laptop harddisk failed me before and I did everything to revived it. But it keeps on failing... so i just bought a new one and everything works fine. $60 for 30GB

Guest jeffwalker9999 Posted February 13, 2006 CID Share Posted February 13, 2006 you might want to run a check disk 5 stage pass this will fix the errors comand prompt c:>_ chkntfs (space) /d <'enter'> sets chkdsk ntfs file system to run even if no errors chkntfs (space) /t:2 <'enter'> sets the wait time before program starts chkdsk (space) /f (space) /v (space) /x <'enter'> 3 stage ----runs a quick standard check disk chkdsk (space) /v (space) /r (space) /x 5 stage ---runs a complete check disk (takes a long-long-long time) (if repeated multi times::will return "disk is clean" ) (this is the best check if you have the time to do it........... ) /f = fix /v = verify every files check sum /r = repair any error /x = force to run
