ghostmaster Posted March 21, 2006 CID Share Posted March 21, 2006 You may indeed have a bad cable or transmitter also, with that amount of failed transmissions. Have your husband check the grounding, and make sure all the cables are tight. Another issue may be water in the feedhorn. There are several instances of this. You need to tell direcway that your number of failed transmissions are higher than the number of successful ones. That might get the ball rolling on then giving you real help. lewplu Posted March 22, 2006 CID Share Posted March 22, 2006 I had the same problem with my failed transmissions being so high and what solved it was remaking all the ends on my cables. do you know someone who can properly do that for you. I would also check that you are grounded properly. You need to get those failed transmissions down. here's what mine look like: Transmit Status Transmitter ready. (TxCode Number of Successful Transmissions 1330484 Number of Failed Transmissions 38738 Number of Packets Submitted for Transmission 238161 my transmit stats looked like yours before changing my ends, In the spring I'm going to install quad sheild cable on my system to try to make it even better. If I were you I would first check grounding, replace cable ends if needed, or if not to much work, replace cable with quality quad shield cable. Make sure it is someone capable of doing these things properly. Five computers if used at once is quite alot for a non business Direcway plan. When checking speeds do it directly connected to the 7000 without the router, I've heard of a few routers that could slow down your connection. But I beleive your problem lies in your high failed transmission rates.
tommie gorman Posted March 22, 2006 CID Share Posted March 22, 2006 manang, you are testing with the 579 and 1013 test files. Try posting with the 2992 file and post those speeds. The lower ones do not always give true readings. Thanks and welcome to the forum. Am also on AMC9. Might also suggest husband use dial-up for toys. Its cheap and won't use fap, and you could use when fap is up. Just a suggestion.
manang Posted March 22, 2006 Author CID Share Posted March 22, 2006 Hi again, especially ghostmaster and lewplu... I have shown this thread to my husband, and dark though it was outside, he tried to check on the cables, grounding, etc (I dunno the difference in those wires). anyway, he has told me about how the transmission rate has been going on his computer (8000 successful versus 900 failed - which is an improvement, and this is now just several minutes from trying to do a fix). lewplu, here's the latest transmission stat (probably in less than 30 minutes since hubby tried fixing it) : Number of Successful Transmissions 21518 Number of Failed Transmissions 1255 Number of Packets Submitted for Transmission 8697 hi, tommie gorman! But I feel very positive about it. I am grateful for all your input! Will update you about my internet performance tomorrow as soon as I hit two hours straight without problems, and will again post to verify that it remains working continuously (if it indeed will be so). manang Posted March 22, 2006 Author CID Share Posted March 22, 2006 HI to all, I spoke too soon last night...especially after trying to work on two audio files (medical trans). I was exhilarated and hopeful. I also installed the lccu on my computer (husband did not on his coz he wanted to see what changes we would have secondary to his tinkering with the transmitter). As early as 6:30 this morning I logged in to my company account to try to work. While downloading the first file, it was taking forever, and I knew it was not normal. Control status showed increased # of failed trans. I did not bother to wait for the internet to become normal again. Around 8 when my husband was awake, he checked the connection and browsed and it was ok (I already told that the problem was that these are only short-lived connectivity). At 10:00 I tried browsing using his computer...nada. System stat degraded. Here's the present trans stat: Number of Successful Transmissions 87627 Number of Failed Transmissions 73062 Number of Packets Submitted for Transmission 26690 Oh, and I am using the dial-up right now. Maybe we do need to call dway about failed trans. Maybe a professional should take a look at our cables. I will also consider joining the copperhead.cc. I am depressed... ghostmaster Posted March 22, 2006 CID Share Posted March 22, 2006 Yes you definately need them to come look at it. If they send the installer out, your don't have to pay for it. I fear that you are one of those poor folks that may have gotten a crappy install.
manang Posted March 24, 2006 Author CID Share Posted March 24, 2006 UPDATE My hubby was not ready to give up, and does not want to rely on Dway as he has lost his trust on its tech support. Yesterday we bought some cables and copper (tube?) for the grounding and he said he would re-route the wiring to make it shorter (at least, that's how I understood what he said). He started with the copper tube last night. This morning, I was browsing for maybe 30 minutes without problems. But I dared not try working. Then he called from work around noontime and asking me about the internet. With a sad and depressed tone I told him it was fine for the 30 minutes that I used it. And I asked him whether he wanted me to try working. He said he just wanted to know if what he did made a difference. So I started at 11:20 am...AND UP TO NOW, MY INTERNET HAS BEEN WORKING SMOOTHLY!!!! (That's for a total of 7 hours straight!) Hooorah!!!! I am hopeful that tomorrow it will remain this way. Hubby plans to proceed with re-routing the wires over the weekend. I will try to ask my hubby to post here what exactly he did. There might be some others who will encounter the same thing, and I hope to be able to help too. I HAVE A LOT TO THANK YOU FOR, especially ghostmaster and lewplu! latest trans stat: Number of Successful Transmissions 241995 Number of Failed Transmissions 24989 Number of Packets Submitted for Transmission 44340 Here are my speed tests: :::.. ghostmaster Posted March 24, 2006 CID Share Posted March 24, 2006 Glad we could help. Those transmission failures look better, hopefully you'll be able to get those even better. Im glad you got back up and running. Unfortunately a lot of DWay users get screwed by sub-par installers, and many never even know it... lewplu Posted March 24, 2006 CID Share Posted March 24, 2006 those numbers look much better...glad to see it working out for you. the transmit failures still look a touch high, hopefully the rerouting of the wires this weekend will improve them even more. I think many users don't see the potential of the 7000 because of their grounding/cabling having issues.
manang Posted March 28, 2006 Author CID Share Posted March 28, 2006 Hi all, Thanks a lot for the goodluck wishes. I had been working seamlessly in the past days, except for some 4 minutes or so this morning when the lights for System and Transmit were suddenly out then came back without me doing anything. Hubby still downloads files but using a dl manager to avoid hitting the FAP. He has not yet proceeded with re-routing the wires. I am not sure if he will, because we have been having excellent internet performance as of late... Here's my latest tx stats (ghostmaster and lewplu, I hope these numbers are now quite acceptable?
