jun101ph Posted June 18, 2007 CID Share Posted June 18, 2007 Your problem is very simple, all you've got to do go to a tinsmith (metal work shop), they can fabricate it for you, just show the specifications / the drawing the i posted. it will just cost you around 200 pesos or less. nbamaniac Posted June 18, 2007 CID Share Posted June 18, 2007 Yep, Jun101 is right.. and the stinger i think is usually made of aluminum sheets... Don't u have any relatives who are engineers? If u have, u should ask them too... And one thing about the "limited or no connectivity" thing.. This thing happened to me quite a lot of times and lasts usually from 2-7 days or sometimes even 2 weeks!!.. Based on my experience, this happens to my connection everytime the smart bro employees update or maintain their stupid base station... Did their customer care tell u that they're undergoing maintenance?... I can tell u that our smart bro base station here in zambo is quite primitive compared to other cities.. Its like being cavemen..lol..
nbamaniac Posted June 18, 2007 CID Share Posted June 18, 2007 Wait a minute.. Since i'm not familiar with canopies, internet settings and other blablas, what the heck is jitter and RSSI?
jun101ph Posted June 18, 2007 CID Share Posted June 18, 2007 Almost 2 weeks now I don't see any problem with my SMARTBRO connection. I missed talking to a CSR.hehehe.. I suggest flood an email complaints to the CSR @nbamaniac, they will respond quickly thru emails than calls.
nbamaniac Posted June 18, 2007 CID Share Posted June 18, 2007 How exactly can I send email to them (CSR)???... Sorry for my innocence...
jun101ph Posted June 18, 2007 CID Share Posted June 18, 2007 @nbamaniac RSSI (stands for Radio Signal Strength Indicator) and Jitter are two most important parameters in a microwave link for motorola canopy SM and the base station. RSSI - indicates the power received by your antenna. Jitter can be thought as noise in a transmission. The lesser the value the better. The installer / smartbro field technician will need to test the values for Jitter and RSSI, to determine if the link is good or poor. Minimum values for a good link for RSSI = 500 or above and for jitter = 4. jitter above 4 may result to intermittent connection.

gourame Posted June 18, 2007 CID Share Posted June 18, 2007 dritz1191 are you connected via network? is your pc set for a single connection use? your not sharing it? what are your apps ie anti virus/firewall?
drizzt1911 Posted June 18, 2007 CID Share Posted June 18, 2007 another question... where can I find on the https://portal.smartbro.net/ my current plan if my base station has been upgraded or not?? is it on the transaction history? Coz if it is! I'm still getting the package name of WF988 I'm one of those subscribers waaaaaay before when they were still smart wifi. I dont have any alternatives that's why I cant move to a different ISP. so much for being a loyal customer. sheesh.!
nbamaniac Posted June 18, 2007 CID Share Posted June 18, 2007 Drizzt1911, seems like ur still with the wifi plan 988 package.. just bear with them... patience, I think... That's what I did..hehe.. gourame, i'm usually doing those clean-ups quite frequently... Clearing internet caches and all other stuff (Anti-spyware, antivirus, trojan and worm killers, etc.)... I think my system is clean... Well, that's my opinion... Can the ping really be lowered down??...
jun101ph Posted June 18, 2007 CID Share Posted June 18, 2007 @drizzt1911 It's on your antenna parameters has the problem, that's the implication of having RSSI of less than 500 and a high jitter value. I strongly suggest to place a Stinger on your antenna to boost your RSSI above 500. Your microwave link is very poor that's why unreliable (fluctuating download speed). drizzt1911 Posted June 18, 2007 CID Share Posted June 18, 2007 @gurame. No its only a single PC connection. the canopy is directly connected to this PC. no firewall except the windows one which is (and will always be) turned off. my AV is called AVG anti-virus. No other apps as of the moment that is running. i have already / defragged / scandisked / registry cleaned / and even deleted and uninstalled files. / I know my connection can still be higher. but as of now, the most pressing matter is my intermittent connectivity / which is making me frustrated and very angry at smartbro. drizzt1911 Posted June 18, 2007 CID Share Posted June 18, 2007 @jun101ph - yeah you maybe right. can I adjust some settings on the canopy to atleast make it compromize for the lack of unreliable signal?? or is the stinger my only and best option?? I dont have any engineer relatives, hehehe. most of our clan is on medicine. But I'm with computers. but not the techkie type.tho.
nbamaniac Posted June 18, 2007 CID Share Posted June 18, 2007 drizzt1911... It could be between these conditions... 1.) Those stupid installers don't know how to properly set up an antenna OR 2.) The "fast and reliable" SmartBro is having some "technical issues" right now... Solution: Either way, u should try to move ur house to 1 meter away from the base station...
jun101ph Posted June 18, 2007 CID Share Posted June 18, 2007 @drizzt1911 nbamaniac is correct, maybe the untrained installer don't properly orient your antenna to the nearest base station that's why your reception is quite poor. if u can access ur canopy platform try switching to other access points with higher value of RSSI.
drizzt1911 Posted June 18, 2007 CID Share Posted June 18, 2007 I have an access to my canopy!! now I dont know how to switch it to a different access points I see many AP with lower jitter and High RSSI. Those Damn Installers. I think they didnt orient it correctly.
