x_6985381 Posted March 10, 2007 CID Share Posted March 10, 2007 Alright so I've misplaced my cpu compound, and now I'm running bare cpu to aluminum heat-sink. At 3.0% load I'm getting These heat settings. I really need to find my cpu compound Edit: Open Case *
x_6985381 Posted March 10, 2007 Author CID Share Posted March 10, 2007 Ahh found the Artic 5 Compound and heres the results of applying it. I love this stuff. Edit: Closed Case
dn0 Posted March 10, 2007 CID Share Posted March 10, 2007 Big difference; is that the white silicone heat sink compound that gets all over you if you are not careful? I have never installed a CPU before, but at work we use that white compound when replacing hybrid amplifier chips. Messy stuff.
x_6985381 Posted March 10, 2007 Author CID Share Posted March 10, 2007 This is a dark silver compound, not messy at all.
Roco Posted March 16, 2007 CID Share Posted March 16, 2007 thanks for the b4 and after temp results , I have allways used Artic silver compound except the last time , I could only get silicone , and have since been wondering how much difference Artic silver would have made , I am running 104F so no problem , but next time it's Artic silver for me
granpa Posted March 17, 2007 CID Share Posted March 17, 2007 It would be interesting to find which is better. thanks for the b4 and after temp results , I have allways used Artic silver compound except the last time , I could only get silicone , and have since been wondering how much difference Artic silver would have made , I am running 104F so no problem , but next time it's Artic silver for me Your temperature looks OK for now but if you go up one degree it may be wise to see a doctor. mudmanc4 Posted March 17, 2007 CID Share Posted March 17, 2007 I have heard, that arctic silver is conductive, I dont know this for a fact, but I would be weary if it were. It would only take a small amount to cause an issue. I strictly use the white myself, and have no issues w/ heat. BTW, maybe one of you w/ some silver, could take a resistance / ohm reading for the rest of us. To find continuity or not .

x_6985381 Posted March 17, 2007 Author CID Share Posted March 17, 2007 It's a pentium 4, with stock heatsink. piece of sh*t if you ask me, I've always had these temps. I used about a piece of rice size from the artic 5 and yeah its all set properly. Thats what you get with pentium 4's

mudmanc4 Posted March 17, 2007 CID Share Posted March 17, 2007 If I knew how, I would. I would ask you if you had access to an ohm meter, but given your answer, I would say not. I will get ahold of some arctic silver, and test it myself, unless someone here already knows the answer

And being a Brit... That stuff sounds like it could get in the way of some serious action going on.
