Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being

an AMERICAN in 1907.

The year is 1907, one hundred years ago......

'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good

faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact

equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any

such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon

the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an

American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an

American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for

but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and

that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.'

Theodore Roosevelt

1907

Every American citizen needs to read this!

100% agree with Teddy on that one.

By the way, and hopefully slightly on topic, I was curious about that deal the other day about the non-American that flew the Mexican Flag above the US flag at a restaurant, I believe, and I found this on the laws of our land:

© No other flag or pennant should be placed above or, if on the

same level, to the right of the flag of the United States of America,

except during church services conducted by naval chaplains at sea, when

the church pennant may be flown above the flag during church services

for the personnel of the Navy. No person shall display the flag of the

United Nations or any other national or international flag equal, above,

or in a position of superior prominence or honor to, or in place of, the

flag of the United States at any place within the United States or any

Territory or possession thereof: Provided, That nothing in this section

shall make unlawful the continuance of the practice heretofore followed

of displaying the flag of the United Nations in a position of superior

prominence or honor, and other national flags in positions of equal

prominence or honor, with that of the flag of the United States at the

headquarters of the United Nations.

Pretty straight forward and easy to understand to me. I did not need to look this up, it is common freakin' sense. If I, God forbid, had to move to someone else's country, then I could not be either arrogant or ignorant enough to place the US Flag over theirs.

EDIT, just found a video about the Flag incident:

if everyone had the guts that guy did...there wouldn't be any problems like that...

and why hadn't some law enforcement stepped in and corrected them if not cited them???

Honest opinion? Because we have become wimps. We feel that everything we do has to be politically correct. Instead of just acting. Like "but if I do that will I be infinging upon his rights also?" Screw that.

So be a man like in sex fella's. Step up and be a man. The worst they can do is put you in jail for the night. Myself, well lets say that just removing it was being pretty nice in my opinion.  :knuppel2: It could have gone way worse. If more men still had their balls attached.  :azn:

So start checking your yes dear crap at the door if you would.  :grin2:

I don't agree with the "English Only" part. Even though I only speak one language...

No offense intended. But it is necessary. It makes things a lot easier. And fair to the previous inhabitants.  How else you gonna order things. I French, greek, portuguese, russian. So why not the native tongue then?  :grin2:
