jchen Posted October 10, 2009 CID Share Posted October 10, 2009 I have Windows Vista, and I've always had the Windows sidebar until a few months ago it suddenly vanished and never came back. I tried restarting the computer, because usually if I restart it, it comes back, but ever since it never came back. I went to the control panel, personalization and appearance and clicked on the option for windows sidebar, but nothing happened. WIll I ever get the sidebar back? I appreciate your help
mudmanc4 Posted October 10, 2009 CID Share Posted October 10, 2009 goto start > then in the search box at the bottom, type "sidebar" without the quotes, and bam, there you go If this does nothing, or gives you an error that there needs to be a service running, post it , and someone will help you get it running again

zalternate Posted October 10, 2009 CID Share Posted October 10, 2009 I killed the SideBar as one of the first things I did to Vista to Fix it to work better. My Windows 7 RC is on the new build machine now(off the old tester machine) and it's just so freaking awesome. Fast and no crashes.
fikester Posted October 10, 2009 CID Share Posted October 10, 2009 I have had no issues with the sidebar with SP2....? Still do not much care for Vista, but it came with my XPS1730 thought I would try it.

fikester Posted October 10, 2009 CID Share Posted October 10, 2009 use task manager to look for any process of sidebar.exe if so end them then run this file (will enable sidebar in registry) after you run - restart next do search for windows sidebar...look for sidebar properties then see that "start with windows is enabled"

nanobot Posted October 11, 2009 CID Share Posted October 11, 2009 If I were you I would repair Windows with a recovery disk or something like that. It should fix the issue, but if it doesn't you would need to google it or reinstall windows.
