php Posted May 19, 2005 CID Share Posted May 19, 2005 I think I used ISOBuster to extract the boot data from the XP CD...
KingCobra Posted May 19, 2005 CID Share Posted May 19, 2005 If it's still readable, you can purchase WinImage and it will read the disk and create a .iso file.
coknuck Posted May 19, 2005 CID Share Posted May 19, 2005 can't you copy it from cd to cd with Nero
php Posted May 19, 2005 CID Share Posted May 19, 2005 I don't know if it would be bootable then or not... when I did mine I customized the XP installation though, so I couldn't just copy it
coknuck Posted May 19, 2005 CID Share Posted May 19, 2005 I copied a friends copy of Windows 98SE and it booted like a new one on a cleaned system with all the options
organ_shifter Posted May 19, 2005 CID Share Posted May 19, 2005 Use Alcohol 120% or Nero to copy the CD and it will be bootable. I've backed mine several times this way and I'm 100% sure about Alcohol 120% as it will copy anything and not care about copy protection. You can download SP2 for free from MS here: Service Pack 2 (this copy is larger than the update from microsoft, but it only installs what you need). If your original Windows XP CD is damaged to the point of not being able to complete a successful copy or allow you to create an iso, there is always MiniNova.org

cak46 Posted May 20, 2005 CID Share Posted May 20, 2005 Worst comes to worst, you may be able to get replacement media from Microsoft. See the link below for details: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326246
Aggr3 Posted May 20, 2005 CID Share Posted May 20, 2005 i endend up using Alcohol 120%, it worked perfect. SpeedTweaker Posted May 20, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 20, 2005 We aren't. In order for media copies to be a problem, you would need to recreate the hologram. The media is actually pretty worthless without a valid product ID that can be activated. so are you saying that I wont get the proper installation as of the original CD? KingCobra Posted May 20, 2005 CID Share Posted May 20, 2005 so are you saying that I wont get the proper installation as of the original CD? No, I am not saying that. If you have the bits either on a hard drive, network share or CD along with your product ID, then you can install.
organ_shifter Posted May 20, 2005 CID Share Posted May 20, 2005 SpeedTweaker, if you used Alcohol 120% to make an exact copy of your original disc, then you have an official backup. You should be able to do a fresh install or whatever you want with the disc now. There is no difference between the discs but appearence. Guest helloimtim Posted May 20, 2005 CID Share Posted May 20, 2005 While it may be kinda cashy. I can not recomend nortons ghost 9.0 enough. You may need a dvd burner to put all the data on. That program just rocks.

That program just rocks. Gotta love the Ghost. Best program I've found for backing up full systems and replicating "same hardware" hard drive installs!
