cholla Posted June 5, 2005 CID Share Posted June 5, 2005 I'm glad it was east of me by about 100 miles for a change.Btw I have seen a tornado on the ground at about 1 mile distance while driving down an Oklahoma highway.Oddly I've never seen one on the ground in the Texas Panhandle I've seen funnel clouds & partial drops.I've lived in the Texas panhandle all my life remember when 11 tornados were supposed to be on the ground here but they were hard to see from a storm shelter. dn0 Posted June 5, 2005 Author CID Share Posted June 5, 2005 I have seen 2 in my life, once as a child, and once about 3 years ago. It was about 10pm and out on a rural highway. We new there was a warning, but no where to stop. Then a flash of lightning, and it lit up the rope looking tornado a couple miles north of us, and fortunately it was moving north. Thats as close as I ever want to be.
