FallowEarth Posted June 25, 2005 CID Share Posted June 25, 2005 Welcome to the forum! 31 db is acceptable for signal to noise.
dn0 Posted June 25, 2005 CID Share Posted June 25, 2005 31dB is on the low side for downstream SNR, generally you want >32dB signal to noise in 256QAM. That level usually won't cause an issue, and it is an RF issue, not much you can do about it as the end user. Is it unGodly hot where you are like it is where I am? RF levels drop off when it is warm outside, so that may be why you are seeing a lower SNR today. -(lower signal level generally means a lower SNR- ie- lower inputs at the actives)-
cholla Posted June 25, 2005 CID Share Posted June 25, 2005 Could the lightening have damaged something other than the modem. Not completly fried just damaged. So you are not getting peak performance.Cables or wiring for example, router,Outside wiring, etc.

My levels are close to yours. Did your ISP "authorize" your modem for their network yet?

It makes sense that it should be the same, but who knows. There is a range of like 10 or 15 dB that is acceptable, so I guess it varies. Side note: lol! no I used to play but haven't for like almost a year. I gave my PS2 to my younger brothers. Thanks tho!
