FallowEarth Posted September 13, 2005 CID Share Posted September 13, 2005 Welcome to the forum, jsdailey. Keep in mind that the speed tests are dependent on your browser. Often spyware will cause such fluxuations, be sure to run your spyware scanners. If you have none, you can go to www.microsoft.com/spyware to get one. Are you on a router? Do you have windows XP? Also, be sure to check out http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-2097 for some great tips.
jsdailey Posted September 13, 2005 Author CID Share Posted September 13, 2005 I am not on a router, I have 0 spyware, and normally it is always a constant 4.8Mb connection. I don't know what it's problem is. I called the cable company and they are supposed to place a booster on my line, so that should clear things up. FallowEarth Posted September 13, 2005 CID Share Posted September 13, 2005 Try running a traceroute to testmy.net from the command prompt like this: C:Documents and Settingstestmy.net member>tracert testmy.net then post your results!

jsdailey Posted September 14, 2005 Author CID Share Posted September 14, 2005 I always test with the main servers, no mirrors. As for the package it is the 4MB package, but it usually runs at about 4.8MB. Let's see right now it is at: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 242 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 386 kB) Download Speed is:: 30 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Wed Sep 14 00:16:42 CDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 4X faster than 56K 1MB download in 34.13 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 5.66 % of your hosts average (comcast.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-KDO0PZ16F This is really the first week that I have ever had trouble with it. I am hoping that once they get the booster put on it will help.

cak46 Posted September 14, 2005 CID Share Posted September 14, 2005 Check the power levels for your downstream and upstream on your cable modem then post 'em. A number of cable modems use 192.168.1.1 for accessing the diagnostics where you can find the levels. If this doesn't work, post the type of cable modem you have. Also, check and make sure all of your connections are tight. Have you added any splitters to your cable line lately?
