  1. Hey Van, I used Fedora Core 2 for a while on my ex's computer, and liked it. I learned a lot from it, I ran it alone on that machine, though, so I can't help with the dual boot. BTW, the Linux PC is now gone (so is the ex) and I have been thinking of doing the same thing as you want to with the latest Fedora Core 4. Both my HD's are formatted NTFS on my current PC, so I would have to reformat #2 as FAT32 in order to run Linux.
  2. Your network is only as fast as the slowest device in the chain. They do make 10/100/1000 mbps NICs. Example: Click Here (they are getting pretty cheap nowadays) This will not help the average Joe increase his Internet speeds, but you can speed up your home LAN. A 10mbps NIC is just that, 10mbps (actually less due to ethernet overhead). A data center may have a 1 Gbps connection to share with all users simultaneously; they will need high end (10/100/1000) NICs.
  3. Good news. I am not real familiar with the WPA since my laptop is also Centrino, but the 802.11b, so it doesn't support the better WPA encryption. Does that 60 minute setting mean it will change to the next key every 60 minutes? Someone else hopefully can answer that question for us both.
  4. I would WPA-PSK is certainly more secure than WEP - So that would be the safest choice so long as your wireless card on your PC/Notebook is also WPA-PSK compatible.
  5. Just think of that damn HD in place of the mower in this video. (Caution: LOUD audio! Just in case the kids are sleeping) http://www.dataflo.net/~mpurintun/videos/lawn_Mower_vs_AK-47.mpeg
  6. I agree, Motorola makes a good modem. You can buy the newest one (SB5120) for ~$79.99 at most stores. Example You won't need a separate line from the pole unless the local cable co designed their plant different than the norm. Where I live, US West built a cable system back in the mid 90's, it is now Qwest Telechoice. They have a dual plant system, twin cables, amplifiers, etc. throughout there system. In this case, there is a separate line for data, but as far as I know, this may be the only exception to the normal design.
  7. 2.625 in FF. 2.172 in IE . Pretty close here. Repeat test were similar.
  8. yes, quoting myself BTW from way back in the thread - thanks, php, I looked it up, and my processor is not HT, but the mobo is HT capable. That's why it is disabled. Again, Thanks for the tip.
  9. I was at work in a meeting when the first tower was hit. Someone told us about that during the meeting. When the second tower was hit, we cancelled the meeting since there was obviously something serious happening. I am in Omaha, the US Strategic Command is here. They fly the Looking Glass planes out of the base here; they are the flying command posts that used to be airborne 24/7 during the Cold War. They say "United States of America" on the side just like Air Force One. Later in the morning on 9/11, we were standing out watching all the commercial planes come in, strange how it was one big line of airliners as far as one could see. Then we saw 2 fighter jets on the wings of what I thought at first was a Looking Glass plane, except it was painted with the baby blue. My co-worker is ex-Air Force and he recognized Air Force One right away. A few minutes later, the news explained that Bush was at StratCom in their bunker being briefed. Eerie day, I will never forget.
  10. Here's something interesting. I downloaded and ran PCMark 05 (as much as I could without registering, anyway). Look at the attachment, about the Hyperthreading part. Is my PC HT capable and I didn't even know it? Just curious, never dealt with HT, and I know alot of you on the board are running HT PCs right now. Thanks-
  11. Welcome to the forum donnapaul. Glad you found some help here; that's why were here, stop back and tell your friends.
  12. Yeah, I agree Van. I installed that a couple of months ago, and I get the same bogus results. There is supposedly supposed to be larger file choices, but I could never make them work.
  13. Cool second video, Van. Of the course the 5-0 has to show up to ruin a good time
  14. First, one post is enough, if it was accidental, then OK. Second, I am sure Comcast won't allow a second modem on the same account, you could BS them with a different name/address, etc. But, how often will you need 15-16mbps connection? Most anything on the net now you can't download much above 5-6mbps, with a few exceptions obviously. I say it is NOT worth the hassle or price, although it is possible.
  15. Yes, too much. Hopefully the launch of Wild Blue bringing competition will help all you DirecWay users out.
  16. Mah, that kid get's alot out of 50cc's. Pretty good Van- edit: I was going to download the second movie (400+MB), BUT I don't have a 100mbps connection like some people around here
  17. Go to the stats page and try checking the "Computer ID" option. Maybe you weren't logged in at the time. If that's the case, I don't think you'll get yesterdays stats back via Username.
  18. Just looked at mine, it is Version A. I don't have the box or receipt anymore. The ex through it away, along with some other important things. Bummer.
  19. BEES - BEES, they're everywhere!!! Your weapons are useless against them!!! Run for your lives!!! Never had a Bee outage before, had squirrels chew through my cable, though. Glad it's working now.

And your complaining? Guess the bottom one is also download, bummer.
  21. I don't, does your browser delete cookies evrey time you close it? I believe TestMy.Net relies on cookies to stay logged in... edit: what php says^^^

    DOCSIS

Which may or may not be bad......QoS One bonus, is that allows for a 64QAM, 6.4 MHz wide upstream channel. This will allow for a 30mbps data rate as opposed to the current docsis 1.x rate of 10mbps. (this is per channel/node). Maybe we could hit 3 or 4mbps upstream, that would be alright.
  23. What brand of modem do you have? If It's Motorola, click this link: http://192.168.100.1/signal.html This will tell us some receive and transmit levels and other information. If it is not Motorola, tell us which, there are other ways for a few other modems.
