Microsoft, government, and Katrina
resopalrabotnick replied to Swimmer's topic in General Discussion
probably some security issue or other. besides, number of people running macs or linux: unimportant. even more so since most people making use of that will have lost their comp or be without power iternet anyway, so they will use an internet cafe to do so. and most of those run win. -
i agree that most of the people impacted had no business being there in the first place. and the mayor of new orleans instead of bitching about lack of response afterwards should have taken the 72 hours plus he had to figure out that a cat 5 was heading his way and the levees were rated for cat 3 to get everyone out.

i thought it was well established that the test did not come from the site since the validationlink is false. therefore it's not a glitch, just silly. on that note. :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is:: 3229 Kbps about 3.2 Mbps (tested with 1496 kB) Upload Speed is:: 394 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Thu Sep 8 16:34:49 UTC-0400 2005 Bottom Line:: 58X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 2.6 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! : running at 987.34 % of your hosts average (adelphia.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-RWJT7H3F5 Duh, look, i got the speed upgrade for the uplink. just as transparent.

What is the best/safest Anonymous Proxy?
resopalrabotnick replied to destructionfever's topic in General Help
well, even the safety issue being solved, you don't know if the proxy is any good. there have been tests where the proxy showed you were properly hidden but it was a small matter to find out your true ip address. and again, if you use an anonymous proxy, you're just raising red flags all over the place, since of course the ip pools of the anonymous proxys are well known by those that care about such things. -
he. even my router will pretty much log the ip's i have for an indefinite amount of time (or until the memory fills up) if i don't clear the device log once in a while. not much data to store, and the logs are generated automatically, some large text file on one server. my guess is they log every ip since the isps inception out of sheer lazyness. why bother clearing old entries.

bunch of free proxy services out there to cloak your connection. problem is that the traffic between them and you can be detected, showing whomever is watching what youi're doing, and if you have a dynamic ip from your isp that only means that every connect or 12 to 24 hours gives you a new ip, whichever is sooner. but don't let that make you feel safe, the isp keeps a log of who had what ip when, so law enforcement can easily trace traffic to you with an ip and a timestamp. the ip cloaking sites are better that way, but using them pretty much raises a red flag to anyone watching, and the quality of their protection can be lacking. so you think you're safe and get burned anyway, or you're not doing anything wrong atm and law enforcement starts sniffing anyways because your using those suspicion arousing services. crime doesn't pay.

the only weird thing is that according to the documentation provided it does /nothing/ for you unless you're running ie 4. and since you say you're running 2k and xp, i kind of doubt that.

hehe. probably a buddy using his comp while he's in the john. i hate when that happens.

this looks fishy to the extreme. edit hm, looks harmless after all, but also pointles the link given is to install the update for IE 4.0, which is not supported by MS no more. https://www.verisign.com/support/advisories/page_029264.html specifically: Who is affected by this change? This change affects only existing and new customers who are using VeriSign Secure Site or Commerce Site SSL certificates on supported Microsoft IIS web servers. If you are using web servers other than Microsoft IIS (

normal hearing sets in at 20ish Hz iirc. anything lower is infrasound. elephants communicate with it for example, alligators use it as a mating call. watch a gator trying to find something to screw. it's neat. they lie in the water and shout out loud, but too low for you to hear. the only clue you have is that the water around them turns al;l frothy from the vibration. and a pair of headphones that can reproduce sound lower than 30 Hz? um... not. you need a large, heavy driver for that (in the speaker, not software) and it would just shake your head to mush. wave your hand back and forth real quick, that's a few Hz. that''s what the speaker needs to do to generate those single digit freqs.

Insane Projects: Self Healing Minefields
resopalrabotnick replied to Hyperspace's topic in General Discussion
considering that anti-vehicle mines that do not require direct contact (in short they launch a projectile at a detected target from a disrtance, making breaching (clearing) them near impossible) are already deployed, this seems like a waste of funding. as with all mines, the smarter the better, because that means that they can be remote detonated by the user when no longer needed, not leaving behind the huge mined areas that exist all over the world following low intensity conflicts. -

Do u get capped on business cable?
resopalrabotnick replied to ExTrem3 Gam3r 43's topic in General Discussion
ripoff? it's blindingly obvious that this would be so. if you intend to host whatever on a comp it means that you know (or hope) you will receive shitloads of traffic. a business cable contract implies you get a little more bandwidth to play with, while at the same time paying for volume. if you get no speed/volume cap, you are insanely lucky. check other deals for corporate use, for that matter compare to webhosting packages. every packet you transmit or receive goes <cha-ching>. -
how to transfer data from laptop to desktop?? pleas help??
resopalrabotnick replied to goblin24's topic in HELP!
one reason could be non MS firewalls running on one or both of the comps. -
insidious. you bait hapless forum users with a sigpack that deploys your ddos. Resopalrabotnick Ever Vigilant.

well, this is a flame, but against whom, i don't know. it's just that someone messed up BIG in the evac of new orleans. if they can get one bus in to the stadiums, then they can get any number in. it took me 30 seconds to come up with the following plan, why in the hell didn't someone else have the same idea? take EVERY school bus from the neighboring states, enough around to make sure you use only ones from not affected areas, send it to new orleans. load it up with people, drive it back to where it came from. by having buses make one trip achieves the following: 1. they move about 60 people each. (stripping out the seats to move litters, easily loaded thgrough the emerg door at rear, 30 minutes with a ratchet. to move the sick/injured) 2. they go to the schools they are normally assigned to. the schools have rooms/gyms for the number of students the buses carry, so enough to provide shelter. also the schools have showers, plumbing, cafeteria etc. 3. medical facilities in the towns they are taken to are enough to take care of the students, so basic medical care should be available for the refugees. easy to spread even the 80k people that were stranded among enough schools, people have at least basic needs, are out of disaster area. just my $0.02

hm. didn't follow that topic too closely, but imo anyone posting on a thread like that should be surprised if he does /not/ get attacked for daring to express an opinion thjat differs from somebody elses. this subject is so polarising that any mention of it anywhere anytime is a guarantee for a spirited argument at least. i don't see any reason for removal, even if things get a bit heated, since if you hang your tuchas in the breeze by posting to a thread like that, you put yourself in season. just like you can express a fight to break out if you express your view of the situation in a public place. i say put the topic back and leave like ones there in the future. noone is forcing anyone to post to controversial topics (or even read them), and noone should interfere with the ones that decide to pull out their soapbox.
