  1. richcornucopia answered that. hm, i wonder what that might be that you're trying to burn... lucky for the copyright holders that you seem to be having trouble applying patches.
  2. who needs myspace. the internet is for trolling and porn.
  3. tommie, read or at least scan the pdf i posted. radio interference in this case refers to the fact that the powerline transmissions are in the up to 3 MHz range, similar to cable internet. the difference is that while dsl, cable and other wired high speed connections are shielded like coax or prevent interference by using twisted pair and shielded twisted pair cabling. powerline internet runs at a fairly high power level over single unshielded power lines that act as antennas that are miles long. this means that they have the ability to spread their transmission over a wide range of the spectrum not just from a point source but over a large area. i recommend that for details you look at the report, or ask a friend that has a ham radio if you want to hear a rant... some of the data in there is significant even more so is the following passage.
  4. google has commercialized the previously communist firefox "community". while firefox is all well and good (wouldn't use it unless someone deleted my ie though) it is now being aggressively marketed by the personal information gatherer #1, google. they package it with their google ad and spybar. google is one of the preset search sites in firefox. it is the preset search site (unchangeable) in safari. they have bought a billion worth of aol stock to become their number one search tool. now they are threatening legal action against ms for setting msn to be the default search engine in ie, claiming it's as bad as packaging ie with windows, curtailing the consumers choice etc. etc. etc. (it takes a half dozen mouseclicks to change from searching with the assistant to searching with google. google is even 3rd in the list of search engines, way ahead of yahoo.) .
  5. personal subjective preference? hp. will feed and print anything but toiletpaper. (and i was so hoping to give a roll of personalized asswiping supplies) objective preference? none. go buy whatever fills your needs or rocks your boat.
  6. :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: SUCKERS!
  7. i agree that the features are fine. but the radio interference?
  8. i sometimes do it too, with names like ima phisher. if they automatically feed them into a homebanking script at least the banks it people have something to laugh at.
  9. depends on how many people on one trunk. they have 54 mbit, so anything over 50 users on a trunk gets slowed down below 1 mbit down, but the pings should be better. there is no justification however for jamming the airwaves.
  10. and who is to say the guy selling it on e-bay didn't do the same thing you did? never buy used computer kit unless you know the person selling it and know you can skin them if it's junk.
  11. some good info on powerline. http://glasnost.itcarlow.ie/~net4/kirwans/bband.html note the allowable radio interference under side effects. attached an australian study on powerline systems.
  12. right. of course you should re-autodetect the new hard drive. then the restore disk might accept it and restore the prefabbed image to it. otherwise you will need a valid license to install a windows cd. if you don't have the key, contact the pc mfr. for the same. if you want to buy a copy remember that the upgrade will accept any valid license from 98se upwards. save you a hundred bucks that way.
  13. but you should boot from the original cd to repartition the disk or at least remove all partitions and then repartition it to its current state.
  14. that sounds remarkably useful. since you have the gas pipes going all over the damned place anyway (in those places that get supplied with gas of course) they offer a great way to lay some fiber/tp/coax without having to dig everything up. simply use existing maintenance/inspection openings to shoot in the fiber. Brilliant! (and even if there is a spark there's no danger of a fire. they are gas lines not gas/air mixture lines.)
  15. yes competition is good and all that. but do you want to get that competition at the cost of jamming a broad spectrum? besides, the areas in question only have power and phone lines to them, the phone lines are too long for dsl and there is no cable because it is just not worth laying cable there. so powerline would be the only option.
  16. contact microsoft about receiving a replacement for your cd. remember that a downloaded copy (especially if it is cracked) can easily contain a bunch of evil critters you won't want.
  17. to begin with it sounds like a bad version of xp, since you don't just download different versions off the web at random. you do something unheard of and purchase a license in a store. this gives you a bootable disk to install the os from, instructions and the right to download updates from microsoft.com. if you had ended you post before blatantly flaunting the fact that you are stealing software you might have gotten help with your problem. however some of the members if not most of the members here do not condone public discussion of illegal activities because we want to protect the admin and owner from any legal repercussions. have a nice day.
  18. haven't felt that an intel wasn't up to a task i set it to, so i'm gonna stick with em.
  19. i meant the software for the ringtone conversion.
  20. if you want to bother simply send the e-mail in question to the bank in question, let them deal with it or not, as they see fit. if you feel frisky forward it to the newsrooms of the local paper/tv station as well. usually the urls in those mails die off pretty fast if they are hosted in civilized countries because the law shuts them down or the people move on to other hunting grounds, leaving no traces behind.
  21. gee golly. i never would have thought that someone from the public utilities commission would be pushing that product. i'm sure that as soon as they go operational and the emergency services can't use their radios anymore (along with the ham operators) he will be educated on stray transmissions.
  22. properties tells me 17.9 gig used, selecting all gives me 14. so i'm guessing some system files don't get counted, swap file and other temporary files maybe as well, recycle bin... something like that.
  23. word/tools/options/save and set that up however you want.
