I think I was the tenth or twelfth member to join, I have stayed active testing and posting from the early days of the site.One of the main reasons I enjoy coming here from back in the day when PERL was king is because, first it has always been the best testing site on the net. Many things have changed from the "old" days except one thing,,,,,, and thats Damon's expertise and devotion to the site:) I think it was a couple of years ago when one of the sites started charging for speed test.....That sucked and was really lame....but Damon vowed to always keep his site free and he has kept his word, but more than that he has continued to make regular improvements that have made his site what it is today in my opinion.When I look at some of the older test pages I think how its easy to tell their vintage, even though they were at one time cutting edge and inovative.....I don't know about the rest of you but it has always impressed me that his tireless efforts to achieve perfection have never stopped.Remember he has a job and a life other than just TESTMY.NET. Jim, The person that the links were going to has been banned from this site, and if you looked at the links on his pages it was all advertisements for things that were being sold,so that was the problem with the link and it was also removed from everyone else that had it in their post......... mikesim...welcome to TESTMY.NET I hope you enjoy and visit often:) I don't have wireless either but, we took my friends laptop out and found a signal in several different sites in our city, the fastest speed we got was a little less than 200 KB/s and this is with an older computer.We did this for testing and my friend decided not to go wireless because he travels to remote areas and didn't think it would meet his needs, I also found it to lag and be unstable when moving, again the older computer may have been an issue:) Microwave

justinlay, Have you tried removing(un-check) window scaling? It sometimes makes a difference...........something else that may be helpful whenever I have made changes after a reboot I leave the new settings for some time usually one day and see if there has been an improvement, you cant always tell by just one or two test:) Microwave

Reverend, I have seen many articles like this before and find them interesting,I guess my question to you is how does a "believer" reconcile the time frame when this stuff happened if I remember correctly biblical teachings say the world is only 6000 years old? Yep unfortunately the resale value isn't very high, go buy a brand new car and drive it around the block and try and resell it to the people you just bought it from, you would be very surprised at what they would be willing to buy it back for:( Microwave

Yeah, I'm not too crazy about the test site you used either,if you noticed your speed can be very fast and then change because of the site they are sending you to for a jpeg download.....anyway one site could be busy and ruin the accuracy of the test.......and ISP guys can sometimes be short and not really take a call to serious........but my job as a consumer is to not give up and make them help me, thats what I pay for........I feel lucky because any problem I have ever had I was given immediate attention until the issue was resolved, even though most of the time I called it was not my ISP but me fooling around and causing a problem.....but COX~HSI was always there to help:) Microwave

xyther4523"], Absolutely, a default systems speed will change drastically with just a few tweaks, for instance I just formated and reloaded my system recently and, my speed over doubled with just those few changes.........when a system is set up correctly doubling speed is not uncommon. good luck:) Microwave

Those look like mostly default settings except for your MTU not being set at the correct value, and that may be the biggest part of your problem.........and your rwin Microwave
