Have you looked for spy-ware?? It is a constant source of speed loss, there are several freeware programs that will find and remove these scum sucking, bottom feeding, ass-wipes, if your computer is infected:) As swimmer suggested the post that Van Buren has for setting up useful values that will work is very helpful, just remember to have a good copy of your Reg. and test at different times after you make changes. This will give you a better idea of where your at . Let us know and good luck:) Microwave

Rob tell us what kind of system your running what O.S. and we will see if we can help: You may have a spyware issue or any number of other things,so we will take them one at a time if you like:) Microwave

Shanee, If you have a one on one issues with a person, please try using email or IM , it makes it more interesting if a post concerns all users (or maybe most) and I'm not trying to nitpick but it would be better if you do your own house cleaning......when you know its a bad link please edit or erase so as not to waste users time if they are interested in going to that link. Thank you for your cooperation. The more concise a question and answer is the easier it is for all to understand and benefit from.As someone has already said some of your content is questionable,it may be better if in the future you have any questions about what your displaying on this site it may make more sense to clear it with the owner first, just a suggestion. Rob, Welcome to the site....and yes you are posting good speeds, a rule of thumb is if you get 90% of your adverstized speed(what you pay for) then you are doing fine....have fun Microwave

If it was a Dell it would only cost half that much...... I know a lot of people regard Dell as not worthy....but if your just an average user and your not a gamer in my opinion I think Dell gives more bang for the buck. for instance all the Dell machines at work outlasted all the Compaq's by over twice the amount of time with less trouble in service.... My brother (a non techie) has two Dells and I have only worked one one of them one time in the last two years (scum-ware) and Dells service is usually pretty good(we all know someone that has a nightmare story) the only problem I had was when I called for tech support I had a problem understanding the guy in India but in fairness he was very thorough in fact he gave me a lot more help than I wanted......but what company isnt sending there service centers to cheap labor markets...Anyway its not top of the line thats for sure ...but for a regular user its been my experience that its a good product......and no I'm not typing on a Dell right now.....lol.....thats just my opinion I could be wrong!! Welcome "STANK HO" interesting I never thought I would be talking to someone that goes by the name of Stank Ho.....lol..... but to answer your question yes it is a good speed unless you are paying for a much higher amount of bandwidth......but I dont think so...... hope you enjoy the site and tell your friends where they can get the most accurate test on the net:) Microwave

With a new formatted drive and a clean install of XP home....... in other words right out of the box from the factory, I was able to increase my speed a little more than double my original speed. Before and after. But I only use one tweak which I actually learned on my own but I use "TCP Optimizer" just cause it makes it easier..... but I don't use the setting they suggest for the TCP receive window.. I set at a lower value,it just works better for me. I guess what I'm saying is typically its not necessary to change a lot of settings for good results, of course taking into consideration that all machines are different, but a couple of years ago when I was running Win 98se the same was true double speed with little work. I know its possible to squeeze out a little more speed although a lot of testing must be done for a few days at different times to analyze if your changes really did more harm than good. Man I love this SHIT....if I wasn't spending my time doing this I maybe in a bar or smoking crack....lol(jk) And the hits just keep right on commin:) OBTW I was able to install the O.S. without ever being asked to enter product key or activate this new install, even though in the past when I reloaded over the old copy I always had to.....this is the first time I have ever seen this with any O.S. starting with win 3.1,95,etc...also some other interesting anomalies, but its working fine and I have done updates and other things with no problem....Hmmm go figure....lol Microwave

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hmmmm why didn't I think to explain it this way....hehe ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kool cant wait for the maintenance work to be done on the site....more accurate=more better ~~~ as always thank for your hard work CA3LE GUY Microwave -
I tried this about a year and a half ago, the main problem was the unique id on the computer, I found a way to fake that but a tech from the cable company told me at the time I could be creating a big problem for myself by doing this and he thought there was a kosher way to do....but he never got back to me!!!when renewal time came around the whole setup went crazy....it did work just not very well all the time....so there was no advantage like you can get with 2 dial up modems........but just a few months ago I read in a tech publication where someone had this working and working well,,,,,so it got my interest back but like many other things I haven't done anything with the concept.....lol.... I guess the question I have is to what end do you want this setup for?? or is it just for giggles?? and how are you coping with the computer Addy?? because it seems like I remember someone saying that it was a reg. that each modem have an address that can not have a duplicate......I will look for the article and let you know or post it.....now what folder is that paper in.....lol:)~~ Microwave

Wait a minute PEARL thats those little white things on a necklace I bought my wife one time ??? isnt it?? I like this,, a good music an doesn't toot his own horn (or hacker) Anyway I missed all the fun for a few days My computer took a s@%t....well really someone wanted me to look at the code in a virus ....so I said sure no problem its just a machine right?? and of course my anti virus pgm can always clean it right?? NOPE it ate my machine bigtime.....eventualy I was able to format and reload everything and it is working now.....but my point is that there <<<< IS>>>> a price for arrogance and we never know what it will be until its time to pay...So hi guys and Im enjoying all the post I have to catch up on:) Microwave

I dont think that they are uncapped.....I will try to find article I just read recently and let you know....obtw what state are you in?? Microwave
-
We are willing to answer your question but CA3LE GUY suggested you start a new thread which is where you should start.....but when that is done we would need some information like what O.S. you have, what ISP you have, etc etc etc...I think if you take the time to look around the forum you will see that we are just people like you that belong to the site that are willing to try and help others but we need to know the particulars before we can even start.......so you posted and your post was answered but it doesn't seem like that was the answer you wanted.....well sorry but it was the correct answer....now maybe I'm just being sensitive but it seems like you came back and posted a second post WITH ATTITUDE....thats just my opinion I could be wrong....maybe someone has a better answer for you, but again try taking the first suggestion and then the second suggestion and we can see if we can help you......OK? or you could always go to plan "B" Microwave
-
And the D-link is a very good working unit ....from my experiance......but you should try what you think will work best 4u.....and then let us know.......Good Luck Microwave
