  1. I got memory from http://www.kahlon.com/ it was the cheapest I could find and has not had any problems
  2. Interesting reading - faster days are coming - thanks for the link!!
  3. If they would invent a browser that only sends changed data - ie like if I have this page open in a window or tab why should I have to receive the whole page. Only the changed or new data should be transmitted (in this case the last post) I used some mainframe software that did this 25 years ago and it was so fast everyone thought it was not working until they looked close at the screen. I realize what is involed to do this but with cheap hardware it should be fairly easy. Also the amount of data transmitted would be reduced big time.
  4. Of course its light years ahead of 40 years ago - but the concept is not - people entering the field think these are all great new ideas, but they have been around forever. Centeralized processing or distributed processing - they keep shifting back and forth not because one is better then the other but to make money selling the same concept over and over.
  5. The live idea was run on mainframes 40 years ago - nothing new
  6. Yeah its so great you cant use FF to take a tour - MS is growing weaker by the moment
  7. I use Avant on my C:Drive and Maxthon on my E:Drive. Both have all the features I like. Avant's neat 'cause you can browse with very little interface and it's the fastest browser in the whole known universe. Maxthon's great with it's 30 some fast choices for search capabilities and has every other add-on imaginable. The fastest browser on earth is right here http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/
  8. Avant is another addon to IE - like a string of perals to an ape - give opera another chance - opera and FF are about equal. I never tried avant but if it is just another ie addon why bother - I HATE IE
  9. And if you get 1 TB per second there will be posts complaining about when 2 TB or 5 TB is coming and also complaints about only running at 80% and what can be done about it.
  10. When I went to school nobody would have even mentioned 6 inches of snow - we never had off or got out early and had to walk home. It was all uphill both ways!!!
  11. I got this cool mouse in which the cursor moves from right to left and top to bottom! Like if it is at the bottom and you move down it appears at the top and if you move out the right it comes to the left and vice versa. Saves a lot of time and no more money then your regular run of the mill cheap mouse.
  12. If you learn all the shortcuts which few people take the time to learn it can be done. I will agree that suffing the web is harder but it can be done. I just proved it to myself - had to hit the tab key a lot but it worked.
  13. control esc get you the windows you the left menu
  14. there is no need for a mouse use the alk key and the underlined letter - there is nothing that a mouse can do that you cannot do without it. I could cut the mouse cord and never miss it
  15. Use gmail or yahoo mail - you never have to worry about losing all your saved or sent mail - plus you can save names and addresses. I store some software + bookmarks on yahoo - yahoo has a thing called my web which lets you store urls etc. You can get a USB disk for other stuff. Gmail offers 2.5 gb for free and climbing. If you set your folders up right it makes life easy. Over the years I have tried various backup restore methods and have come to the conclusion that if you can keep all your mail and bookmarks on yahoo and have access from anywhere in the world, then the pc can destroy itself and you are just stuck with a reinstall. I aslo use configsafe which puts your system back where it was after you have problems. It makes Windows system restore look like junk. It is very reliable and fast and cost about 30 dollars I think. WELL WORTH THE MONEY http://www.imaginelan.com/configsafe/buy.html
  16. I do not understand your question - it worked great - they just could not make money
  17. Here is what was in the dead link http://www.eham.net/articles/12189
  18. The dead thread stated a local power company (PPL ALLENTOWN, PA) was getting out of their trial - not because it did not work, but that their customer base (1.3 million) was too small to ever make a profit because of competition from cable and dsl.
  19. Opera is the best browser - FF is close - I use FF as I have gotten used to it - but Opera is outstanding. They both maake ie look like junk
  20. Not dead yet1!!! http://www.mcall.com/business/local/all-broadbandoct16,0,4487727.story?coll=all-businesslocal-hed
  21. It may depend on how fast a system one has - I have a very old laptop.
  22. This is not about browsers, but the new opera returns the fastest download test speeds by more then a little bit. OPERA - fastest IE - next fastest FF - Slowest I am an an opera and ff fan those getting mixed speeds might want to try the new free opera and I think you will see quite a differance -
  23. you can always complain to the attorney general of your state - in most states it is against the law to misrepresent. If enough people complain you may at least get out the contract - not much help I know but better then nothing - you will notice on there directv ads they always say how fast it is but never show you
  24. microsoft money will keep the books for use - if you input all your checks and all your receipts and put everything in the proper category you will be set for yearend - if you catogorize everything correctly it is very simple -
