I can't imagine this thing once I put my SSD in it. I've already had it all open, screen out and everything. As beautiful inside as it is outside. I need to get another SSD before I do that though.. I don't want to take my good one out of my mini... that thing MAKES that little box. 12GB RAM gives me a nice reserve. Memory's getting so cheap right now I might have to get 8GB for my mini and give the 4GB in that to my girlfriends laptop. 12GIGS of RAM... man, I can remember when I was upgrading from 4MB to 8MB... and that 4MB boost cost as much as the 8GB I just got. Technology...

Yeah, that's pretty normal for the results to be different. Two totally different tests. What operating system are you running? If you're running windows, particularly if it's older than Windows 7 you may need to tune your TCP stack to see your full speeds. Windows doesn't always come out of the box optimized for fast connections. Speedtest.net fails to detect this problem. To make this change for free I recommend TCP Optimizer from Speedguide.net. This makes changing those settings very easy and nearly fool proof. Just open it, slide the bar over to your speed that you're supposed to have, check "modify all adapters" ... apply the settings and reboot. You should have faster speeds after your re-test if that was the problem. (this is commonly the issue in situations like this)

First off... Welcome to the site! We don't call people "n00b" around here. I think that's so rude when people do that, you're just trying to learn something and ... "NEWB! STUPID N00B! neeeeeewwwwB!" --- jerks. Now, to your query. Yes, I see my max speeds every day. Here's a download off usenet (giganews). First, it depends on who's serving you the file. So you're downloading it off a crappy or overloaded site then you might not see your full speeds. But the benefits of a faster connection extend beyond the transfer speed. Having a faster connection will make your overall experience online snappier and less stressful. Go ahead, downgrade your service... then upgrade it to their best package (most decent providers will let you do this and downgrade back to what you were on without a hassle, cable providers like Comcast are always willing to upgrade and downgrade your account... whenever). You'll see the difference... even if you don't download any files. Also, I don't see any tests taken under your account or IP address. Take some tests and let us know what your package is (and OS) and we'll try to help you get the most out of it. Depending on your setup there may be a few tricks.

Thanks. I'm going to need a server with a 1000Mbps link by the way.

Well, if you've already clicked +1... and you click it again it removes your vote. It will show up in blue if you've +1'd it. No vote... ...and with a vote... see?

Not yet. Although I do hope to have a server on every continent in the near future. I believe with my formula that I could accurately test the entire planet with 6 or 7 well placed servers (although, I believe in the future as the internet improves, only one server will be necessary). But the way that I do things setup isn't cheap, so I have to bring them online slowly. When I do something, I try to do it right the first time. I have allot of research to do about UK internet and how your internet backbones run before I can pick a perfect location for my server there. If you have any information that you'd like to share about good, powerful and hopefully affordable hosts over there I'd love to hear it. - CA3LE

Daaaamn, so do you have any idea why the upload is so unaffected while the download suffers? 28 Mbps, overseas... wow. But it makes me wonder why some people can seem to only do this on upload (over great distance). Why is that? Are you being limited somewhere along the way... why wouldn't that limit your upload as well?

Google's starting this new +1 thing. I've added +1 buttons to the following pages... Site Index Download Speed Test Upload Speed Test Auto Speed Test Note that each of those has a unique counter. So please vote for the ones you like. The buttons look like this... If you like the tools here and would like to help TestMy.net become more popular show your appreciation and use these buttons to vote us up.

Looks allot better than SmartBRO / PLDT

I'm not going to dig into anything for at least a week. I'm taking a little time off. But yeah, tomorrow is booked!

I know... that guy has had a fast connection for a long time too, back in 2006 results over 40Mbps
-
Oh, I see... it's MB/s --- lol, MBps isn't even a term. There is Mbps (megabits per second) and MB/s (megabytes per second) but MBps makes no sense.... things would get pretty confusing if that were true. I like how they say, "It's all about speed..." --- looks to me like it's all about ad revenue. -- 5 Adsense ads on one page! That's not only stupid, it violates Google's terms of use. Yeah, spammers usually have poor quality. They spend all of their time spamming instead of developing. This guy didn't even make sure he had his terminology or facts straight before going live. ...But, by all means keep that crap flowing off the press. The more TURD speed tests that are out there, the more reason why people will want to come here.

This will be fixed very soon Every time I try to get into that... something else comes up and side tracks me. ~~ I'll have that written into the next version. Thanks! -CA3LE

Question re: WiFi 3Ghz signal/Rogers vs Bell
CA3LE replied to BeerHunter's topic in General Discussion
... Yeah, pretty sure he meant kB/s >> https://testmy.net/quickstats/BeerHunter "Rogers" may have a less obstructed signal to your home. If they want you to put up a 70' tower... for $4000... I don't know man, that's pretty lame. For that price, you'd better get AT LEAST a 10Mbps connection at the end of the day (I'm assuming that you're in a rural area, in which case that would be a nice connection). I'd really look into alternatives if I were you. I'm curious though, if "Rogers" can achieve the same thing with a USB stick... why not just go with that? Am I missing something? Where do you live? One of us may be able to help you find something better. ... 70' Tower... what, are you in Wyoming or something? Living off the grid must be awesome ...until you want to get on the internet In response to... and... -
Antec makes nice cases. I've used them a few times in builds. This one looks like it breaths EXTRA well... pretty much 100% airflow, haha

testmy.net shows much lower download speed than Speedtest.net ?
CA3LE replied to linaks's topic in New Members
You should also note that your problem is confirmed by slow downloads around the internet... etc. Before about 2005 many ISPs were sending their customers here. Pretty much all ISPs have started sending people to internal speed tests, usually Ookla tests. It's just wrong ...and makes them look stupid IMO. How does testing within the network tell you anything? I mean, that's good information to know as well. But to really get a full idea of your connection you need to test outside your ISPs network. I've placed my server in a prime location for the United States, on a powerful host... who has peering EVERWHERE. If you can't pull your speeds here, then something is wrong. ... I think most ISP employees know this but they're told to send people to their companies internal test. ... Check it out ... If you were going to go buy a laptop and you found a nice laptop (for instance)... now, you want to know more about it. Do you want to only know what the manufacturer says or do you usually check a 3rd party for an unbiased opinion? The same can be said for your ISP's service and speed test. Are you going to just trust their test and leave it at that or verify that you're not being lied to with a 3rd party? The ISPs know that they have flaws in routing and peering. I know that they're working on making a better internet. But, while they're correcting issues they can keep down on call center call volume if they host a test down the street that eliminates the variable of THE INTERNET. ---- How can you test your internet if you never even get out into the internet during the test?!??! -
testmy.net shows much lower download speed than Speedtest.net ?
CA3LE replied to linaks's topic in New Members
Hey Linaks, welcome to the site! Read "Why Do My Results Differ From Speedtest.net?" It should clear it up for you. ... Also read https://testmy.net/legit-speed-test.php -- speedtest.net makes them look good, that's why they're telling you to go there. Please respond with your thoughts. -
Still rockin it in the kitchen. I have skylights in here and it's been kinda nice to get out of my office cave for a little while. I'll put pictures up when I move back in there. I've actually been moving it all over the place, kitchen, bedroom, living room, office... it's pretty portable... heavy and a little awkward to carry but it's less of a pain in the ass than moving all the components separately. I don't even think I'm going to do a dual display anymore. I'm finding that 2560X1440 fits my needs very well.

Right on.. I'm going to give that a try. I was hoping there was something like that, I just hadn't got around to looking for it yet. Thanks!

Cool, thanks for the info man. I wish there was some way to control it more. I may stop running it or turn it on and off because it's making my computer run hot. Do you know any 'Extra Parameter' tricks maybe?

Well... it's shooting up for two reasons. First, i just started folding again. Second, I just added a new quad-core to my home network... so I've got two computers working. Do you have a link for instructions on how to put my GPU to work on Mac. The Mac client seems very limited... am I missing something? I've got no graphics or anything, just basically... Ideally I would like the folding screensaver also but I'm having a hard time finding it. You seem well versed with Folding@home so I thought if anyone would know it would be you.

Just horrible... not only wrong... the upload is impossible. --- WTF is that second number in orange? I'm sorry, that's not a speed test. ... and... I'm pretty sure you're a spammer. I keep seeing this stupid spammy ass URL in posts. Stop wasting your time, you're URL will NEVER show up on my site. Even if it does... I put "nofollow" in user submitted links. When will spammers learn that MAYBE if they spent all their spamming efforts on building they might have something. AND... You wasted 5 minutes out of my day! Stupid A@$#OLES!
