1. Thanks man... damn it, I forgot to knock on wood. All of a sudden my upload crapped out. ...real bad ... let's see if a modem reboot fixes it. brb
2. That's awesome! Glad to hear it. I know you've had a hell of a time getting that dialed in. Cox should be embarrassed that it took that long to get it right. They've given you a bunch of free months though, right? One extra thing you can do is send a letter or email to them. Let them know how many attempts it took and how much it inconvenienced you. I guarantee you that they'll give you something extra to say sorry. You had a pretty deep dips in performance >> https://testmy.net/stats/?&t=u&d=06142011&x=240&m=2&l=1000&q=triran then compare that to mine (for those who don't know I have the same Cox.net in Phx AZ 50/5 -- same exact modem.. nearly identical setup...) >> https://testmy.net/stats/?&t=u&d=06142011&x=30&m=2&l=1000&q=CA3LE(I have dips in my connection also but they are mostly because I'm testing the site... I can only remember a handful of times this year that my connection wasn't running at 100% or higher) I'm glad that my website could play a role in helping you get what you're paying for. Make sure you tell your friends... you know... if internet testing ever pops up in a conversation or something Damn, now you've got me beat by a hair (also on WiFi 802.11n)
3. You have to have a custom background set... I'm going to jam out to that second one on my ipod... lol
4. Haha, I found a bug in Google. If you're logged in and have a custom background set and you click the I just posted it won't work. You'd think Google would override that setting if you've just clicked a link like that. Nobody's perfect... even Google. -- But it's not like that's a mission critical link or anything
5. Don't you love how Google changes their logo on their homepage. Today it's one of those interactive ones, like the awesome Google Pacman one they had a while back. ... obviously go to Google.com to check it out It's a guitar! And you can play it! ... Oh, don't fail to realize that there's a recording function... and you can share the recording. ... I'm obviously not a musician and this is obviously hardly an instrument but here ya go >> http://goo.gl/doodle/8AVe Update this thread in the future if you see a cool Google logo you want to share.
6. Well, listen for activity. If you hear hard drive activity DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. You could damage the disk. If there hasn't been activity for an extended period shutting it down is fine. It may just be locked up. Sounds to me like it could really be hardware OR software... If it does it again on the next boot, I would try an OS reinstall. If that fails, junk it if you can afford to. That Thinkpad was a pretty awesome machine when it first came out... but it's day in the sun may be over. Good luck
7. It doesn't... at all. Because you don't have an issue anymore. But can you trust the alternative now? You saw yourself that they reported you at full speed. ...Your speed at TestMy didn't magically change when you changed your modem. You were having an issue and you most likely weren't getting your full speed, whether you noticed it or not. The fact that your speed improved here after changing a hardware component clearly displays a difference between the two sites. I never say that I'm better than any other speed test. I only present the facts and I let my visitors make their own decision. p.s. I forgot to say before... my "agenda" is to improve the Internet.
8. Not at all, but seriously... did they detect the problem? The evidence leads one to believe that your results from speedtest.net were wrong. ... You had a problem. You changed your modem and you're now testing fine. Just because you were still able to comfortably surf doesn't mean your speeds weren't being effected. It has nothing to do with docsis 3 vs docsis 2. Your cable modem was bad. You tested here and TestMy gave you the correct result, you changed your hardware and the result is now what it should be. That seriously can't be argued with. It's hardware man... In this instance, TestMy wins. -- It's not a coincidence that I hear the same thing time and time again. I've also recently seen it with my own eyes. Bad modem, speedtest.net reports good speeds. Swap the modem out and results here go up but speedtest.net is relatively the same. Put it this way, if your modem is dropping packets and speedtest.net removes the bottom 30% of your results they're going to report normal speeds. Because that bottom 30% of the results is where the problem is expressed! Imagine this, say this is the flow of data... | = good flow _ = dropped packets |||||||__||||_______||||||_|||_|||||||||___||||______|||||__||_ Now remove the bottom 30% of the results ||||||||||||_|||||||||||__||||||||||_||||||||||| Looks like there's hardly a problem now. Alternatively, we don't alter our results here what-so-ever. I appreciate your patronage by the way.
9. Your forums are broken dude. Change the site address in your admin panel from 65.111.125.41 to esuccor.has.it and it should work. ... Good luck
10. Nice... ... See, another example. You completely had a legitimate problem. TestMy detected it. Speedtest.net didn't. I just hope that you help me spread the word. ... We've known this here forever but changing public opinion is hard. People like "pretty" things, apparently whether they work or not. I try to make thing look nice here but at the heart of the site functionality and accuracy is what I'm always focused on. You're here to test your internet, not be shown a seemingly random number. TestMy truly tests your internet speed. Thanks for the testimonial. Note to everyone, please post your personal experience! I appreciate your support.
11. Best that I've seen for long time... Awesome!
12. Thanks, simple but does the intended job. -- I may redesign that, give it a few more functions and make it even more simple to use. If you're in Ireland and most of the sites you visit are in the United States then yes. But tweaking the MTU and RWIN settings just right can make a big difference.
13. Welcome! Hey, I'm Irish too! Just not from Ireland. May the road rise up to meet you...
14. Internet providers show speed in Kbps, Mbps and Gbps because that's the correct scale for line speed. You use kB/s, MB/s and GB/s to describe the speed of a file transfer. Well, your max speed isn't far off from where you should be. But you have a few lame results in there. Check out the Automatic Speed Test. Run it for a while and gather some more data. I wouldn't worry about the cap. When I worked for the cable company the same policy was in place... but I've been told that it's not strictly enforced. If you're using your connection normally you'll be fine. What the cable companies are really looking for is massive outgoing traffic on a connection ... people abusing the terms of use. Trust me, Cox has a similar policy... I draw Terabytes and nobody's shutting me off. Also, if you read online, in forums about people saying that they got shut off because of that. I'd bet you a thousand bucks that every single one of those people was sharing files on a ridiculous scale. Just don't get stupid, limit your sharing and you'll be fine.
15. I think this "ADSL THEORETICAL SPEED CALCULATOR" Excel spreadsheet may help you. adsl2calculatorv1.xls Because this is an XLS file you need a viewer. If you don't have Office or iWork installed here are a couple free .xls viewing options >> Open Office or Microsoft's free XLS Viewer
16. I can't imagine this thing once I put my SSD in it. I've already had it all open, screen out and everything. As beautiful inside as it is outside. I need to get another SSD before I do that though.. I don't want to take my good one out of my mini... that thing MAKES that little box. 12GB RAM gives me a nice reserve. Memory's getting so cheap right now I might have to get 8GB for my mini and give the 4GB in that to my girlfriends laptop. 12GIGS of RAM... man, I can remember when I was upgrading from 4MB to 8MB... and that 4MB boost cost as much as the 8GB I just got. Technology...
17. Yeah, that's pretty normal for the results to be different. Two totally different tests. What operating system are you running? If you're running windows, particularly if it's older than Windows 7 you may need to tune your TCP stack to see your full speeds. Windows doesn't always come out of the box optimized for fast connections. Speedtest.net fails to detect this problem. To make this change for free I recommend TCP Optimizer from Speedguide.net. This makes changing those settings very easy and nearly fool proof. Just open it, slide the bar over to your speed that you're supposed to have, check "modify all adapters" ... apply the settings and reboot. You should have faster speeds after your re-test if that was the problem. (this is commonly the issue in situations like this)
18. First off... Welcome to the site! We don't call people "n00b" around here. I think that's so rude when people do that, you're just trying to learn something and ... "NEWB! STUPID N00B! neeeeeewwwwB!" --- jerks. Now, to your query. Yes, I see my max speeds every day. Here's a download off usenet (giganews). First, it depends on who's serving you the file. So you're downloading it off a crappy or overloaded site then you might not see your full speeds. But the benefits of a faster connection extend beyond the transfer speed. Having a faster connection will make your overall experience online snappier and less stressful. Go ahead, downgrade your service... then upgrade it to their best package (most decent providers will let you do this and downgrade back to what you were on without a hassle, cable providers like Comcast are always willing to upgrade and downgrade your account... whenever). You'll see the difference... even if you don't download any files. Also, I don't see any tests taken under your account or IP address. Take some tests and let us know what your package is (and OS) and we'll try to help you get the most out of it. Depending on your setup there may be a few tricks.
19. Thanks. I'm going to need a server with a 1000Mbps link by the way.
20. Well, if you've already clicked +1... and you click it again it removes your vote. It will show up in blue if you've +1'd it. No vote... ...and with a vote... see?
21. Not yet. Although I do hope to have a server on every continent in the near future. I believe with my formula that I could accurately test the entire planet with 6 or 7 well placed servers (although, I believe in the future as the internet improves, only one server will be necessary). But the way that I do things setup isn't cheap, so I have to bring them online slowly. When I do something, I try to do it right the first time. I have allot of research to do about UK internet and how your internet backbones run before I can pick a perfect location for my server there. If you have any information that you'd like to share about good, powerful and hopefully affordable hosts over there I'd love to hear it. - CA3LE
22. Daaaamn, so do you have any idea why the upload is so unaffected while the download suffers? 28 Mbps, overseas... wow. But it makes me wonder why some people can seem to only do this on upload (over great distance). Why is that? Are you being limited somewhere along the way... why wouldn't that limit your upload as well?
23. Google's starting this new +1 thing. I've added +1 buttons to the following pages... Site Index Download Speed Test Upload Speed Test Auto Speed Test Note that each of those has a unique counter. So please vote for the ones you like. The buttons look like this... If you like the tools here and would like to help TestMy.net become more popular show your appreciation and use these buttons to vote us up.
24. Looks allot better than SmartBRO / PLDT
25. I'm not going to dig into anything for at least a week. I'm taking a little time off. But yeah, tomorrow is booked!
