Damn database errors!! Okay, after researching into the problem I have fixed the problem. The partition on the database server that the database was on was 100% full -- meaning that nothing could be written to the drive, also meaning that I couldn't optimized the tables and get it fixed. It was a real headache because I didn't know for a while why my server wasn't listening to my commands!! But once I noticed the REAL source of the problem I cleaned some backup and logs out and got 'er back in business! Thank you for your patience during this hard downtime, and thank you ALL who emailed me, called me and PM'ed me to let me know about the problem. I would have caught it earlier if I would have known it was actually that bad... normally a simple restart of mySQL will clear a stuck process or what ever... but this problem happened to be deeper than that - Damon Mueller - Owner/Admin

I am done working on this... I will post my findings in a new thread.

Yeah, we have a bunch of members (some I have spoke with) who signed up and have never posted... but have told me they read throughout the site ALL the time. Just because someone doesn't have a post count doesn't mean that they are inactive.

Believe it or not, coming close to 1,000,000 visitors a month

Had a little more downtime due to the database server having a few problems. I am curtain that this is due to the amount of uptime I've had on the servers, I have rebooted both of the servers and everything is back to normal. Sorry for the inconvenience, unfortunately I was away from my desk all morning so I was unaware of the problem till I got back in, next couple of weeks I will make sure to pay extra attention to make sure we don't have anymore errors. - Damon

If your IP changes you want to make sure your logged in to get a nice long log of results. This will only log the results that you have taken WHILE logged in, if you search by comp_id this will pull results for your IP (though the comp_id masks your ip from the public's eye) if your IP changes then it will try and pull for your current IP. If your on an ISP who changes their customers IP's frequently the only way for testmy.net to keep track of all your records are if you stay logged in ... hope this clears up your question.

Yes, I do admin and moderate... but my crew does most of it now, with the expansion of the site and trying to keep up with trying to write new tools for the site there would be no way I could do it without them.

I do have great servers, but the quality of the route to you from the server is usually the most important. In developing this site I have taken extra steps to make sure my server is on a good backbone (can't be the best for the whole world) and that the server(s) can support what I'm tring to do. I'm not suprised you get higher speeds here... I do too, and so do many, many, many loyal users

Thanks for the feedback, I always love hearing this stuff... keeps me motivated to move forward. Glad my friends here could help you, and all the others they've helped. They are what truely makes this site what it is... I just write code hehe

Okay, upgraded my box. I just couldn't wait any longer for Dual-Core. I really didn't need an upgrade but I got a good friend to buy my old stuff off me... so I put a bit of money on top of that and found an excuse, I used to have... OLD:: AMD Athlon 3000+, DFI Lan Party NF2 Ultra-B, 1GB Corsair Dual-Channel DDR, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro with an Arctic Cooler (ran at room temp)...Thermaltake Silent Purepower 410W PSU Everything except the Radeon was like 6 months old, some of you may have heard all of the praise I have given that video card... it seriously was the best product (for my computer) I have ever purchased. I got it when it almost first came out, it was ridiculously expensive and I was unsure if it was worth it... well it was, after YEARS of operation it ran strong, the fan went out but I got the Arctic Cooler for like 20 bucks and the card was even better. Up until just the other day I was still playing all the newest games at full everything with no problems (Half-Life 2, Farcry (tiny lag at full), World of Warcraft.. etc..). Anyone who is debating if it's worth it or not shouldn't worry.. it is, save the money if you have to. Better to buy one video card that lasts three years than buy one every year to keep up (my opinion), but if you don't have enough money to get the new X800's on the market try the old Radeons, they are still awesome and only about $120-130 now. Okay, so I ended up getting... NEW:: Asus PSWD2 motherboard, Pentium-D 2.8, 1GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 PC2 6400 (running at 800MHz) Dual Channel, Asus Radeon X800XL 256MB, Thermaltake Purepower 460W 12V 2.0 PSU (new standard)... still using my Thermaltake Tsunami Dream Aluminum case, 160GB SATA and 80+80G SATA RAID-0 array... also got a new Lite-On 16X DL dvd burner, up from my old 8X single layer (which didn't match my case anyway.. lol) I haven't done any tweaking and overclocking yet, but I think my 3DMark scores stand up pretty good... wish I still had 3DMark 01 to run just for laughs, I ran 3dMark 03 and 3DMark 05... I'm sure after some tweaking it will run better but I think I'm happy for now Post your scores

Thanks for all the input, love to know how people get here Yeah, BBR (dsl reports) has been sending me traffic for quite some time, love those guys. Thought by now I would have talked to them. I've talked with someone from Speedguide.net a couple of times, long time ago though... never met the guys from BBR though. This site is about 30X smaller than them though (my estimate) so I'm not too suprised.

Does anyone know what website this is?...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that allot of the sites that have stuff like that (where you enter someone's email address) - usually keep a log of the email addy's entered... then sell the list. -
I've heard of that router (and seen it) but I hate DLink -- I had a NIC that caught fire once (years ago). The ethernet port like blew up, I never even know that was possible. Also had a 33.6 modem( waaay back in the day) that died quickly. I decided that DLink is gay, and I can never trust them again, lol. I won't even buy Netgear anymore, I have some of their old stuff that is still good, but their new equiptment has been pretty bad lately. I'm a Linksys fan all the way -- Cisco is dope too, Linksys is Cisco Systems... maybe that's why I like them so much.

I don't play either of those... I can't get on Xbox live anyway, both of the boxes are soft modded. The online games I currently play are World of Warcraft, CS-Source and Half-Life 2 Deathmatch...

ahhh, IC ... right on

Nice setup.. what kind of speeds do you get off that Pre-N ?? I don't even use any of my wireless, I just have it for if people come over with laptops and shit. I'm thinking about getting a laptop soon though.

here's mine, I just re-routed my network to a different closet... so I thought I would show off some pics from top to bottom 1) Linksys BEFCMU10 Cable Modem 2) Linksys WRT54GS Wireless G 4 port router (main computers run off this) 3) Old (but still great) Netgear MR314 wireless b 4 port router (used for extra outlets and 2 XBOX's) I had a bad ass Linksys EG0801W 8+1 Workgroup Gigabit Switch in the mix for a couple days but I took it back because it really isn't necessary right now... I will wait for a Gigabit router version oh.. sorry, pics taken by my phone... I need to get a new digital camera... one day.

Why don't you just go with Adelphia without the AOL... did you know you can do that and save money? Although if you've had AOL for a long time the transition may be a little hard at first.
