Wow, I had no idea. For the longest time Chrome worked best for me... but over the past year or so I've been having issues. The latest... a memory leak (or something) ... every so often on my iMac I'll see little square character looking artifacts around the screen. All blinking at the same rate, very faint... very odd. I run through and start closing programs to find what the cause is... get to chrome, close it and BAM, problem solved. I tax my other browsers just as hard and have never seen the odd behavior that chrome displays. (not just the artifacts... there's much more to it... it doesn't feel right lately) chrome used to handle everything for me but lately it's shown signs of weakness. I have faith that the developers will make it work better. That's a pretty major difference between your chrome and firefox. Guess you know which browser you should use now. -- from what I've seen firefox has always been a consistent performer, across all platforms.

Took me a while to get to it... but you can now mass delete. Select check boxes next to the result or select all at the top. Execute with the delete button at the top. This is something I just added quickly. Later, I'll make a small floating options list pop up that will have organize and delete options when you check boxes. For now... this is WAY better than the previous one... at... a... time... delete.

Sorry I never noticed this thread. There is already user agent info in the details. Click the test ID in the details for those details. Let's compare some user agent strings... Here's my iMac Safari - User Agent Detected: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_9_5) AppleWebKit/600.1.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/7.1 Safari/537.85.10 Chrome - User Agent Detected: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_9_5) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/37.0.2062.124 Safari/537.36 Firefox - User Agent Detected: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.9; rv:32.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/32.0 And iPhone Safari - User Agent Detected: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 8_0_2 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/600.1.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/8.0 Mobile/12A405 Safari/600.1.4 Chrome - User Agent Detected: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 8_0_2 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/600.1.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) CriOS/38.0.2125.59 Mobile/12A405 Safari/600.1.4 All the information you requested is already there. Here's a list of user agent strings for reference. I'm working to make it easier for everyone to understand.

Sorry about that. First it was trying to connect to the old server... then the username was missing on the new server... then it had so many failed attempts it locked out all the mirrors. Everything should be working normally now. In the transfer I forgot about that reference to the IP... also forgot that it has a special username. Oops. Only able to notice once I turned off the other server. Even then, it only happened if you had selected express. I didn't see the error myself at first because I wasn't selecting express.
-
I just upgraded the home server, I forgot about the reference to the old IP on the mirrors. I'm trying to understand why it wasn't throwing an error for everyone, it should have. I was able to test normal on all mirrors. It's twisting my brain into knots because it should have given everyone that error. AHHH! I'll have to look deeper. At any rate, it's fixed. Thank you for the report and sorry for the inconvenience.

maybe you can only get those speeds multithread. The upload test here is single thread. It also considers from start to finish. Most other tests ommit portions of the result.

Not true, my AC wifi has acted up a few times. I'll join the N wifi on the same router and my speed will be MUCH faster. Something probably interfering with with 5 GHz and not 2.4 GHz. Interference affects all wifi, AC is no exception. I run a quick download test, switch from AC to N and retest the same size. There's usually a difference in favor of AC but I've seen it the other way around. When AC was running slow it was 1-2 Mbps vs 80+ Mbps (n - laptop never moved)... vs 100+ Mbps wired. I changed channels on the router a while back and I haven't had issues since. Whenever possible you should test wired to the router or modem to establish an ideal baseline. Then compare those numbers to your wifi. Might surprise you.

We look forward to that too. Welcome to TestMy.net!

You should also look at Fedora [download] and like EBrown said, Debian [download]. Both are well supported distros. Try the live CD's, when you find the distro you like best, you'll know it. It will just feel right. Just for reference... Linux Mint [download] Ubuntu [download] see Linux Foundation Desktop Distro Listing for more flavors Let us know what you decide to go with.

Yeah, looks like you've been testing. Sorry I'm late with a response.

The Verizon FIOS speed test log show the recent results for other FIOS clients. There are logs and listing for all members, providers, cities and countries to help you compare. DNS would only affect the results if there were a long lookup at the start of the test. I'd bet that this would be more noticeable on the multithread test if you selected a wide array of servers. Because it will query for each server. I'm with EB on this one. Google's DNS works great. I've been using it for years and never have DNS issues.

Can you point me to some good articles that have evidence of ISPs throttling VoIP traffic? -

Me too! This is on the list and will be added. I should be revisiting that section soon. -
How's mint running? Last time I installed it I thought it was pretty nice. Nice snappy linux feel. Here's the last thing I moved... cp -R -p /var/lib/mysql /home/mysql broken down copy -Recursive (go within all folders and within their folders too) -parents (remove DIRECTORY and its ancestors; e.g., `rmdir -p a/b/c' is similar to `rmdir a/b/c a/b a') /source/dir/var /destination/dir/var If you're trying to delete the files use rm -Rf (recursive & force makes it get everything and have no 'remove?' prompt) or rmdir sudo mv -v ~/Downloads/jre1.7.0_67/* /opt/java/32 -Rf might work too...

I'm also migrating data over to a new, more powerful server. When it's restored and DNS forwards you to the new server you may be missing a couple of days of test results. These additional results will be imported once the other database server goes offline.

https://forums.softlayer.com/forum/general/network-and-system-status/82244-vsi-hypervisor-upgrade-and-reboot Right now the asia server is down (Singapore). Later (in this order) Seattle WA, Amsterdam NL, Washington DC and San Jose CA will go down. For about 1 hour. This was to fix a Zen vulnerability within the datacenter. Dallas is dedicated so it will have no issues. As the server come on and offline tests will be rerouted to Dallas if you're selected on a server that's under maintainence. Just a heads up.

That's the lowest amount of access I need to allow gmail login. You're not granting any access that isn't commonly granted... you're allowing TMN just enough access to be able to link your gmail (or facebook, msn) information to your account here. TestMy.net is highly trusted in the Internet community and I strictly follow my privacy policy. You can read more about sharing your data with other sites on support.google.com. Manage sites that you've granted permission to and revoke ones you no longer use. (facebook and MSN look for 'Account Settings' > 'Apps' or similar) Having said that... I'd rather that you use the mikaAndrianoelison account. No spaces is better for a username in my opinion. I allow spaces but I don't like them. ... by the way ... Welcome to TestMy.net! How much do you pay for Internet in Madagascar? What speed does your ISP quote you?

Why are Flash Internet Speed tests inaccurate?
CA3LE replied to jrtcjrjr's topic in General Discussion
Post a picture of this splice. And any other connections or splitters you see between the street and your modem. Look closely at fittings and pay attention for kinks. Coax cable must maintain it's impedance or the signal actually reflects within the cable (wiki cable impedance). Meaning that it can't take sharp turns. I have a feeling (when you mention splice and that it's worse when it rains) that your cable is exposed to the elements. Never a good thing. And if this 'splice' is between the pedestal (the box at the street) and your house, they should replace the entire drop in my opinion. When I was a cable tech I would NEVER splice a drop. Either called in a conduit drop or pulled out my pick axe and started digging. No matter how good the splice is you're guaranteed to lose at the least 1 dB. And then if that splice is unprotected it will degrade at a much faster rate than the coax....... if left long enough the corrosion bleeds into the line. I've cored a bunch of cables to inspect the damage. Sometimes corrosion caused from an exposed splice can run 10+ feet along the cable, both directions. That's FAR from ideal. Especially for Internet and DTV since those higher frequencies travels more on the outside of the core of the cable, the core should be mirror copper finish. Worst one I've ever seen ran so far down the cable I gave up trying to find where it ended. "Wow, surprised this guys Internet works at all right now." -- new drop and he had the fastest connection in the neighborhood. -
Why are Flash Internet Speed tests inaccurate?
CA3LE replied to jrtcjrjr's topic in General Discussion
No question is a dumb question. We're here to help. Welcome to TestMy.net! Short answer: I don't know, they just are. At least you know where to test from now on. Super long answer: This issue is so common it's not even funny. Ask anyone here, it's seriously getting ridiculous. I'm very happy that you're not blaming me, most people see the difference and automatically blame TMN. Gets really old. I see that even your multithread results are lower than what you see on the flash tests. Since you've been using multithread I assume that you have an idea of the difference between that and my classic download test. You have a much better chance of pulling your full bandwidth with a multithread test. Getting those similar low results between both test types shows me that you're limited to those speeds. Looking into your results I see... https://testmy.net/stats/?&t=u&d=09302014&x=7&l=500&q=jrtcjrjr Hummm, so under the right circumstance you're getting nearly 80 Mbps. (cool, we have a Mac fan. Explains why you didn't shoot the messenger.) You've only had results close to that good 3 times... out of 500 tests. Do you have anything else going across your network? How many computers are you running on this WOW connection? Are you using wifi? ... before we complain to your provider we need to make sure that it's not an issue inside your home. Let me know more about what you have going on. Modem and router model numbers can help too. Here's an example... I have a new test that you probably haven't tried yet. I call it Mercury. Check out my result to National Geographic's website. (test natgeo) (during the test) (true result, accounting for everything.) Test around to websites you normally visit. More ammunition to take to your provider, especially if you establish baselines before hand, "I tested to the same websites before and was getting 80 Mbps, now I'm only getting 40 Mbps. These are websites I normally visit, I don't care what YOUR speed test says!" -- with Mercury on right servers I can peg my connection harder than ever before... I'm not the only one. If your connection, computer and network are all running right you should be able to as well. Definitely not a dumb question. To be honest, I don't know or care about how the other guys do it. It's proven daily to me that TMN works when others don't. When there are major issues, most other tests don't seem to notice. I can only speculate as to why that is and go off what I've read [ookla adjusts]. I try to just focus on my own development not on figuring out how other people are doing it, wrong. Again, at least you know where to test from now on. hope to see you around for a long time to come. -
Could you please explain some Web Page results?
CA3LE replied to bretherton's topic in General Discussion
If you mouse over and wait a second it explains what that is. Those numbers are the average for all tests taken in the last few minutes worldwide. Load is the amount of pressure the main server is under. These numbers are for reference and don't affect the outcome of your personal results. -
