Yeah, I can't wait for HL2 either. I've never played the original Half-Life nor CS, but the graphics and interactivity in HL2 just looks unbelievable. I too am building a new system in a month or two. I briefly describe it HERE.

If that is indeed satellite, you don't need to do any tweaking. That's pretty fast. EDIT: Are you sure you didn't edit those results any? Downloading at 364 KB/s doesn't match up with downloading a 1MB file in .93 seconds. At that speed, it should've taken you a little under 3 seconds. You want to try running it again and posting your real results?

Ouch, I'm getting around 20KB on the download from your server. Is it located in Sweden? Since most of us are in the states, I can host it on my server and post a link to it if you would like. I'll download it in a bit though. I'm about to play some CoD, and I don't want any lag.

If you're into gaming at all, AMD chips are definitely the way to go. I've seen benchmark after benchmark prove it. The 64 3500+ actually beat out Intel Extreme Edition chips in most game benches. But, if you're into number crunching and and serious multitasking, the hyperthreading on Intel chips and large cache on the EE's have AMD beat. It still isn't anything signifigant enough for me to go with them though. This will be the first AMD chip I've ever bought, and I feel I'll be happy with it. The 3500+ is the best bang for your buck as far as I can tell. I think it's running a little under $280 right now from reliable resellers, and it can keep up with and surpass many top-end chips.

If you want to get into online gaming, satellite really isn't the way to go. The time it takes for the signal to travel back and forth to the satellite is just way to long to get any reasonable ping times.

Wow, I just realized my browser has been signifigantly lowering my speed tests. I tried that 12mb test with the browser I mostly use, Maxthon, and found it would freeze about half way through, then snap to the DONE! image at the end. The test results would be anywhere from 19XX-28XXmbit. Just to see if it would still freeze or not, I decided to run that same test in IE 6, and all tests, from the smallest all the way up to the 12mb, were consistantly 29XX-30XX. This surprised me a little seeing as how Maxthon is an IE based browser. No matter. I now know to use IE to take speed tests from now on. EDIT: Btw, here's pretty much what I consistantly get, with about a 100-150bit range, when I test with IE 6. :::.. There's no point in me even posting my '05 score. I scored a little over 2000 on '03 not to long ago, so one can only imagine how pitiful that would be. I will be building myself a new gaming pc in a month or two though. I'll be getting an AMD Athlon 64 3500+, Abit AV8 mobo, 500 or 550 watt PSU, the overclocked-out-of-the-box Asus 6800 Ultra, etc. I'll post both my '03 and '05 scores once I have it built. I preordered Guild Wars, the MMORPG, so I can participate in the beta testing each month before its launch in February. It skips around so much on my 1.6 P4 and Asus FX5600 that it's hard to tell what's going on at times. I can't wait to see it once I build the new PC. Heck, I'll want to play all my old games just so I can see them at maxed out settings with a smooth fps. Are any of you playing the the Guild Wars betas? Post your in-game name and feel free to add 'The Hahn' to your buddy list in game if you are.

It's funny how this thread went from combining up and down speed tests to difficult sex manuvours. I think I'm going to like it here.

I tried that Cable Nut tweaking program, and it seems to have increased my down in speed tests by an average of 100-200bits. Needless to say, I'm happy with it.

I don't really know much about satellite broadband. What are the high-end package speeds for it anyway? Is ADSL or cable not available in your area?

If I ever found out that there was a 10/1 connection available in my area, I would jump out of my skin. That's pretty insane.

When I tap the up arrow on my keyboard, my computer goes into "Stand By" mode. This could have something to do with me spilling water in it a week or two ago, but most of it went in over where the a, s, z, x, etc. buttons are. Some of the letters over there typed double and triple each time I hit them. Once I let the water evaporate for a few days, everything was back to normal. I'm really not sure if it started before or after the spill seeing as how I don't use the arrow keys too often. I'm wondering if there's a setting or anything that needs to be disabled or changed to make it stop this. I'll borrow a friends keyboard tomorrow to see if it's a hardware or software issue. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I currently have a 3/256 package from Charter. The down is fine. I just wish they would keep up with the competition and up the upload. I can't wait until 6/512 becomes the norm. Bliss can come in more ways than just ignorance.

It was actually supposed to come out late last year. Microsoft has assured everyone that it will be out within the first couple weeks of August.

As for the security holes in IE, they'll be fixed in SP2 here in a week or two. If you like the tabbed browsing, mouse gestures, Google Toolbar support, etc., there's a cool mod for IE called Maxthon, formerly MyIE2. It's like taking IE and injecting it with about ten gallons of steroids. Every feature you could possibly want is included. I'm using "Maxthon v1.0.0178 beta Combo" right now, and it works flawlessly. Maxthon has so many features, it's really geared toward more advanced users who want serious control over their browsing experience. It takes a while to learn the in's and out's, but it's well worth it. You can download it HERE. If you have any questions or problems and can't find the answer on your own, post it here. Guys, the best thing to use for pop-ups is EMS Free Surfer mk ll. I've been using it for as long as I remember (years), and it does a great job. It automatically loads at startup if you want it to and just sits in your taskbar hardly using up any resources. It also has a little cache cleaner utility built in as an added bonus if you don't have one already. NOTE: It sometimes (very seldomly) doesn't allow pop-up content that you actually want to pup up. If that happens, just right-click the taskbar icon, turn it off, open what you wanted to open, then turn it back on. No biggie. The program sets off your computers internal beep everytime a pop-up ad is blocked by default, so you'll automatically know it's the culprite. Don't get worried by this.
