  1. Is that 150kbps permanent? I would gladly loose 1Mbps download in exchange for another 1 Mbps up.
  2. The prices have already drop by the hundreds (besides the $1000 quad cores) CPU charts 2007 Newegg search Conroe
  3. Well on the timewarner site i see 7 Mbps/512 Kpbs = $30 for the first 6 months. But porsche your speeds match very closely to what I had for the past year under Adelphia's 4Mbps cap, about 3.2-3.8 Mbps average. Porsche's modem could be still be running on adelphia's cap of 4Mbps even if RR is faster. Thats what happened to me.
  4. HP usually locks down on the motherboard features plus you get their programs
  5. A two fan case for $30 and a dual core for $70, what a deal CPU comes with a heatsink and fan. In my limited experience get some arctic sliver 5 thermal paste, it took my cpu from 68 degrees load to 58. (stock 3.0GHz and 1.30 volts) Nice low voltage on the cpu. Is that memory dual channel? Onboard video? Power supply? ----edit: O the case comes with power too!
  6. There are alot of cheap dual cores out there from Core 2 Duo E4500 2.2GHz for $150 to the Pentium D 805 2.66GHz for $50 Yes as mentioned by Alan, only programs coded with two or more threads can take full advantage of a dual core. In my personal opinion, anytime I have 4+ windows open I appreciate my hyperthreading and dual core computers. Heck, if one core is used by backround tasks there is another available for me. Example: Battlefield 2 + Fraps movie recorder. In order to make your best decision for a CPU I would highly suggest reading these charts and doing price checks simultaneously. CPU Charts of 2005 CPU Charts of 2006 ____________________________________________________________ Video Cards Hum... What kind of a budget are you thinking of for a video card? AGP or PCI-E? Best video cards for the money sounds like a perfect reading assignment for you. ____________________________________________________________ RAM Discussion on Article: 2GB of RAM: Do We Really Need That Much? Amc and I ask what is your budget Alan? Only took an hour to write this post lol
  7. Well for my cable modem: http://192.168.100.1/diagnostics_page.html password = icu4at! But your modem is likly found at http://192.168.100.1 and has a different password. Modem Pass List or google it.
  8. I live in San Diego and since the Adelphia takeover I was seeing RR average: 3600/360 (capped 4000/375) From August 1st to 4th the internet was intermittent only working 8 or so hours a day. I just ran a test and got a download of over 6 Mbps while another computer was sharing that internet for online gaming. Puzzled, I checked to see what my internet caps were at. My download cap increased by 3 Mbps and upload increased by 330Kbps Downstream Bandwidth 7168000 (bits) Maximum Upstream Bandwidth 512000 (bits) The first timewarner employees we talked to said just wait a few weeks for the takeover to complete. I'm not sure, but I feal like it took a year.
  9. Hold on, the case fell off the table and not the monitor correct? If the computer case fell then i would suggest trying any other video cards you have. Possably try a multimeter to confirm the card has power. Was the connection to the monitor screwed in so tight that when the case fell the cord was pulled taught? This would definitly put strain on the connection to the motherboard. Is it an AGP, PCI-E, PCI video card that is no longer fuctioning?
  10. I had a chemistry class where I took a small piece of glass maybe 7cm by 7cm and covered it in a layer of hot wax. Then I used a toothpick to remove the cooling wax in the shape of flames. Since the acid "eats" glass and not wax I was left with the negative being my flames. I tried to scan it but its like etched glass, its mostly transperant.
  11. http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/43 also scroll down to graphics subsystem on the middle of this page: http://techarp.com/freebog.aspx
  12. Adding memory will help your computer to a point. If you owned 2GB ram and never used more then 1.5 GB at a time then going to a 3GB will not help you. On the other hand, if you have used over 90% of your ram at one time then more memory would help. But I would think the cache speed of 2GB dual channel is faster (in miliseconds) then 3GB single channel. Did you read this? It might answer your question. http://www.testmy.net/t-10322
  13. Why not try this test khalil http://www.testmy.net/dl-12160 and see if its not closer to your average of 1700Kbps Search by testmy.net scores And let it be known that the AVERAGE speeds people got from mirror-daycheck is 20Mbps - 40Mbps since march 8th 2007
  14. Since ping tells you the round trip in seconds of a packet of data, its mostly a measure of distance. But its also affected by other factors, cpu load on each computer and network usage. Come to think of it, using 100% memory would affect ping more then 100% cpu should your computer write to hard drive. Do you have 300+ pings to every player/server? Would you be able to ping another computer in your home or at least one with the same ISP? I would be happy with pings under 100 because 100 milliseconds is equal to one-tenth second. So does that mean that during a first person shooter my position is relayed 10 times per second to the host?
  15. It has to be really high resolution if their streching the image to 20ft by 40+ ft
  16. I think HD DVDs are of a lower quality then what the theaters have because theaters dont care about portable DVDs. (just play off a harddrive) View the DLP demo (Digital Light Processing) at this site Other Links: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=9047637 http://pic.templetons.com/brad/photo/pixels.html
  17. There are small computer businesses that drive around town and using their laptops find one insecure wireless network per city block. (then they notify the people of their vulnerability)
  18. I was adelphia, and im still waiting for RR speeds My cap is lower then the "average" RR internet.
  19. Concerning the video cards, The 7600gt in SLI scored higher then a 7800GTX on 3Dmark 06 Therefore in games that put a heavy load on the pixel shaders/particles ect. You can see how a 7600gt SLI and 7800gtx got about the same score in Oblivion. Yet in other games, the improved technology of newer cards over the old is dramatic. Where the 7600gt SLI was at half the frame rate of 7800gtx
  20. Your not alone porsche, my best is about 3800 down and im capped at 4000 (originaly from adelphia)
  21. Um, im not sure, you could ask Ca3le or you can try them both. You don't need to unintall one to try the other just set cablenut to default before trying TCP optimizer or vice verca. Good Night.
  22. I would suggest making your TCP window a multiple of your Unscaled TCP Receive Window. 65700 x 4 = 525600 OR 64240 x 4 =513920 Thus allowing you to transfer a larger data chunk before conferming with the server. You might be intersted in using the TCP Optimizer https://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php
  23. Well that does not look right... Larry whats your tcp window? https://www.speedguide.net/analyzer.php on Tue Dec 13 2005 @ 10:12:38 am you downloaded at 7219 Kbps (881 kB/s) but that was a long time ago.
  24. "In simple terms, gaming cards are optimized for DirectX whereas 3D cards are optimized for OpenGL." http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/506375-what-kind-video-card-should.html http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2034536,00.asp
  25. The result is about 3.34 Mbps. Its a speed I would be happy with but it shows a slight difference with testmy results
