how is that a real world circumstance though? the cpu and browser are factors for download speeds even on a phone aren't they? i'm pretty sure thats why this site exists. so you can know your actual speed not some fictional well if everything was perfect you'd get this. if you want to stroke your e-peen more be my guest there are plenty of flash based tests for that that's my personal opinion
-
well to be honest we don't know exactly what cox provisions the 50Mbit modems at anyways, we do know they provision higher then 50Mbps though
-
you probably can beat me if you test at 1AM like i did when i got that score haha my speeds to dallas are still messed
-
so lastnight i was tweaking again... i know >.< i'm a tweaker... haha i got this result after playing with the test sizes from the new DC server. i think everything i have locally is functioning exactly how i want it.. also that was over wifi mind you today during more peak hours i still got thats not to shabby if i do say so myself
-
well, not exactly but it will be less accurate because it won't be within real world circumstances so it would be a lot like doing a test from a site like speedtest.
-
i like where your going with this

can be the same thing for androids, mostly anywho as far as the app is concerned i've thought of a reason, you wouldn't have to worry about some sort of browser add on, (i don't know if the iOS browser can do that... but android browsers can) interfering with testing results and or possibly caching the test. also as dlewis pointed out its advertising you'll get more and more users visiting the site and you can embed small ad's aswell as have links to the forum etc to help link people directly to the site

i can't really think of any off the top of my head
-
lol i had an uncapped modem once upon a time but it came that way from the ISP ^^
-
CA3LE has plans to add an option to choose your default server but as of now there is no feature that can do that
-
haha thats what i thought, and yeah i do too i was gonna ask you what kind of a deal you worked with cox to get uncapped
-
no problem! thats what i'm here for, to break stuff! and is that your connection or server to server?
-
well regardless it's nothing that is within your control, all your equipment seems to be operating correctly which is a very good thing ~ Mark
-
if you have a 25Mbps package then it looks really good, and is definately a issue between you and dallas
-
when you finish a test from the DC server and hit retest it retests but on the dallas server. i doubt this is a bug or anything it's probably just not setup to be dynamic and i got a couple server 500 errors when doing tests and hitting stop test halfway through which i couldn't reproduce but i'm sure you will have logs of them somewheres

I think my issue is probably somewhere local here CA3LE probably some local node I go through that you dont -
That almost never happens!

right on man, DC Dallas -
it could be a peer issue, myself and a few others are also having issues reaching our max speed, so to avoid the peering/routing issues that can arise CA3LE is in the process of setting up another server for us to test from that is hosted in a different location edit: try it out here http://dc.testmy.net/

i think chicago would be another good location, they have very well developed datacenters there thats the 2nd best location in the US that i can think of -

atm i think i'm having a peering issue aswell, i have cox 50Mbit line the same type of line CA3LE has and i'm only getting about 25Mbit results from testmy.net but i just downloaded a full server backup from my server in chicago at 7.8MB/s (62.4Mbps) my upstream is unaffected my tracert looks just fine i posted one earlier in another post so its definately not a routing issue for me
