400GB really isn't that much if you think about it, i have a 50Mbit line and have media streaming almost 24/7 every movie i watch is anywhere from 1-5GB depending on if it's in HD or not ah okay so its just a formality then, them sending the letter out to people?
-
i just recently received a letter stating that Cox is implementing a 400GB combined transfer bandwidth cap CA3LE have you gotten anything like this? talking to some of my neighbors and friends they just got letters about this aswell... i'll probably be calling cox about this soon and asking what the penalties will be if i go over because i probably will i'm already on top tier internet the only thing i could upgrade to is business class and i don't really think that's necessary. if they try to enforce this on me i will probably be switching to centurylink

i used to think that way till i replaced the modem my old ISP gave me, i went with a zoom ADSL modem over what they had given me and saw speed and response increases. you never know though i'd wait to see what the tech says after he runs a line test... you could always have him run a new line too while hes out just to be sure also make sure he checks all the fittings and makes sure they are tight and i don't mean hand tight and you could always have him run a line specificly for the modem removing splitters etc can help improve signal quality and reduce noise

aha well thats good have you thought about trying a motorola surfboard?
-
i'm assuming your on DSL, considering the time of year especially the temps in alaska right now that could be why your having issues, over the 6 years i had dsl i noticed that weather seems to seriously effect dsl in a negative way
-
you can reset your dns after you change them by opening command prompt up and typing ipconfig /flushdns and i use the level3 dns servers 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2
-
nope basically you chose a different server to download from so the route changed... however you don't really have that choice with general browsing and downloading unless you use a proxy and most proxies especially free ones will hinder your download speed even more

well as of late AMD is claiming they have the fastest graphics card with the 6990 not sure how much validity there is to that claim but i've been more then happy with my 5870 and my dad owns a 4870 aswell we both run AMD chips.. and don't have any issues i've owned some nvidia cards in the past the last one i bought was a 260GTX and it was a very good card too i don't really have a preference i just go for the best bang for my buck however i'm not the best to ask about the desktop website cause i always build my own i don't buy prebuilt

CA3LE is not one to not have a new mac and hes more then tech savvy enough to swap a display out himself.. i'm sure he just doesn't want to throw a perfectly good mac away for what a couple hundred dollars can fix it may even be less then that depending on what deal he finds

Hi there! sounds like your ISP is either having routing issues through dallas or doesn't have very good peering with level3 my connection is also experiencing slowdowns through dallas, at the moment all i can muster is about 25-30Mbps through dallas
-
he posted earlier that he has a rented motorola surfboard i'm assuming 5210
-
okay! that tells us something very good, it's not a route issue and that your speed is actually 20Mbps not 25Mbps you can't really count the powerboost because its only for the first little bit of a download and this speed test is meant to run long enough to normalize any burst speeds what modem do you have? and are you on wifi or wired?
-
have you tried testing against both servers? or just one?
-
i also live in AZ to dc to dallas
